Kidding i have some 4k stuff - only what i think is worth keeping.some 4k stuff, i watch and discard. but has a bigger collection of BDMV of my favorites. over time, as new video comes out in 4k, will surely get them if they are worth it. having been thru vhs->vcd->ld->dvd->bd... there can be no end... no need to change over everything everytime! QUOTE(Vannus @ Apr 19 2017, 12:02 PM) Never use a repeater for wifi signal, it's degrade the wifi speed very badly. I tested before at the end use powerline as it gives much higher speed. Yes it does degrade... particularly with single radio...but it really depends on what speed you need...Up until last week I had two repeaters daisy chained My rule of thumb as long as your mesh / repeater network is 3x faster than required, it's not going to be a problem... Anyways, I got too many routers around... lol... I still have 2 outdoors PoE APs and 2 normal APs in the drawer... |

QUOTE(Vannus @ Apr 19 2017, 12:11 PM) I think both read speed over usb 3.0 and sata 3 is about the same. Not much different. The USB3 transfer speed are still far less than it has specify (640MBps). can this speed increase using Cat-6 cable? I chose external disk because it's easy for me to unplug and connect it to my PC for huge 4k file transfer. I tested q10pro and put an internal 2.0TB 3.5inch hdd and use samba network transfer from my PC, the speed is unacceptable. 2-5mbps, ridiculously slow, 1 movie 30GB about 6-7hours to transfer. If usb3 transfer i got about 70-80mbps, if sata3 transfer I get about same as usb3, which is about few minutes. It won't because "Category 5 enhanced cabling, also known as Cat5e, It was made to support 1000 Mbps "gigabit" speeds, so in theory, it's faster than Cat5" Why you need Cat-6? |

My 2 cents on Cat 6 cable.
Used Cat 6 for my home network and disappointed with the slow speed when I was backing up my PC to a NAS. Later changed to another Cat 6 cable and wah-lah, the speed improved by about 2 folds. Not all Cat 6 cables are the same. Sorry, I forgot the cable brands now. Use this utility to find out what is the speed. http://www.totusoft.com/lanspeed1 |

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Apr 19 2017, 12:34 PM) for files transfer, needless to say direct to pc will be fastest! Don't make me scared... file transfer over wifi between internal hdd and pc, i use file manager asus. not that fast but acceptable for small files, e.g. music files. if u hv 3TB of 4k stuff, i hope u have a duplicate somewhere for the best ones. if that hdd fails, u will crying! i had that once, never again. QUOTE(OCMAX @ Apr 19 2017, 12:43 PM) Just sharing! don't fall into those gimmick about gigabyte transfer over one LAN port. doesn't work as you think. I understand the difference between theoretical and real-world speeds. Theoretical speeds are fun to have if you have all the necessary (read as lab) equipment to take advantage of it. However, I always base such purchases on real world data alone..What's your files transfer speed within your hard disc partition or HD>HD? Isn't that supposed to be the fastest? WIll the gigi-speed hardware over the LAN can increase these transfer rate? Try writing huge files within a fast SSD...Take the conveniently priced Samsung SSD 850 Pro or 950 Pro series... Don't even get me started on the beasty Samsung SM951 SSD.. Not all SSDs are created equal ya.. Plus one's OS and its state matters.. Linux FTW! Then there's the bottleneck of your network card.. Which most laptop owners don't get to choose.. Desktop builders will agree.. QUOTE(Mali @ Apr 19 2017, 12:45 PM) Some files are difficult to replace. QUOTE(plumberly @ Apr 19 2017, 03:40 PM) Can't remember now. I think I made a note of it. Will try to find it. If the cat-5E cable that you previously install didn't transfer the speed within the spec there must be something wrong. Installation of the cable can be a factor. Cat-5 cables are easily twisted, over bending etc. All these are the cause of the loses. Cat-6 cable are much thicker and not easily twist like other cables. not to mention bending inside the conduits joins. P/S If memory cells are still OK, something like 200 mbps to 400 mbps. It is more than enough to coped the speed out hardware can handle. |

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Apr 19 2017, 03:42 PM) err.. I'm just trying to shared. even using the LAN doesn't means you can watched the best of the best 4K vid files because of the limitation. I was going to return the "slow" Cat 6 cable but no receipt! Got Cat 6 printed on this cable. And this cable is thinner than the other faster Cat 6 cable. My suspect is, it is actually a Cat 5 but they wrongly printed Cat 6 on the cable. |
