yes already streaming online 4k videos from youtube only, internet speed is 30Mbps, waiting for TM to upgrade.

U hv a new uhd tv, playing larger files, streaming online.

For that, u should get a premium box rather than a low end one.

There is a small brother version, the q5pro but is 2/8 gb, less memory.

This box is the top of the range for the brand.
2/16 gb, 3d, 4k 60fps, hdr10, 10bit, hevc265, ddatmos, dtsx.
If your playback files are such, the player can handle all of it.
It comes with android 7 and Kodi 17.
With kodi, u can stream 4k and hevc265 videos too.

About audio, if u can, get a real home theater system with a 4k hdr pass thru avr.
Soundbars wont give u the best audio results.

There are a few q10pro users here, with their reviews ane comments, check them.
I will get on hands on it later in the week, will, write something after i have used it for a few days.

I acquired a Himedia Q10pro!

Q16 and Q5ii still in good use.

This Q10pro works with 4K AVR and 4K TV.

My first findings with Q10pro, 2/16gb, android 7:

GENERAL
.. solid box, stays cool unlike q16 which gets quite hot if w/o mini fan.
.. new launcher is simple and functional, good.
.. connectivity, wifi, just the same as q16, q5ii.
.. HDD slot is simple - I put a 7 yr old old unit in there, works good.
.. playback with native media center or file manager as usual, as promised - 2160p 60fps, HD audio, hevc265, 10bit, BDMV - all good. Yet to test DD Atmos, DTSX.


KODI
.. I installed kodi 17.0 rc3 in there, used org.xbmc.org from q16, works good. By the way, Kodi 17 is very nice looking!
.. 4k, hevc265, 10 bit streams from Quasar, OK.
.. but there can only be 2.0 audio from the addons at this time - a Kodi 17 (not with kodi 16.1) issue with androids. Read that himedia will be coming up with a fix for this kodi 17 multi channel/hd audio stream issues. USB playback is fine with the wrapper set to player and audio passthrough enabled.


Perhaps because I already know quite a bit about himedia Q series boxes, I expected nothing less. It will be a shock for me if I encounter funny problems!
One thing I am aware is that the pleasant experience with the box right from the start is not something to be taken for granted.

Q16 users looking for an upgrade, take note - Q10pro can do the following that Q16 cannot:
.. Android 5, 6 or 7
.. HDR, DTSX (according to specs)
.. Kodi 17 (requires android 5 and above)
.. stream kodi 4k, hevc265, 10 bit videos

Q10pro is a “serious” android box. Certainly a great choice for those looking to great playback of UHD4K and HD AUDIO files besides all the usuals.

is this considered premium box other than nvidia shield? i'm searching to replace my wdtv live. main purpose is to play fullhd(mostly) and 4k movies from my 3tb hdd to my uhd tv. my laptop can't handle 4k movies.

Should be a notch lower than Shield but still a premium box

wdtv live... how old is this?

i just retired my 7 yr old acryan pohd.

took out the 3.5" hdd, stick it inside the q10pro, ok.

if u r into big files incl bdmv, iso, uhd4k, etc., q10pro will serve u well, incl hd audio.

nvidia shield is the king up there, RM1k? q10pro RM600 or so.

video/audio capabilities are about the same - android 7, 16gb, 4k HDR, 10 bit, DTSX, etc.

features, shield comes with 4K netflix, 4k youtube... but not for q10pro and other unapprroved brands.

shield also has better gaming features and capabilities, i think.

wdtv live still serve me well nvidia shield is around rm1.5k, dunno where got ready stock but its expensive. i just use normal mkv files for full hd movies. 4k now just to try how it perform. upscaling from full hd to 4k using uhd tv also not bad. so for the mean time still can use wdtv live for usb playback. will look into this q10pro

Hello everyone. Yesterday, after 2 years of attempt to upgrade my Q3 quadcore model, i've been able to find one update that was working for my himedia. the firmware is called : update_qualcore_Q3.zip. But it's a 2015 firmware. My Q3 is a chinese model i supposed cause " update_qualcore_Q3_en.zip " does not work for me. My biggest problem with my Q3 is the fact that i cannot change audio stream and subtitle in the media center when i'm in UPNP mode. Everything is OK by USB. The media center is where i've got the best image quality. Kodi is not as good mostly with 720p video. Is there a firmware after mine(HMD-1.0.9 2015-06-16) wich solve this probleme ?. Or is there a link that is working where i could download the lastest firmware for my Q3 ?(chinese version). Thanks. My seller has never answered me for a new firmware.

...well my 1st gen wdtv live...flashed with b-rad's rom is sitting quietly somewhere...it's still kicking but receive no love...

Himedia & Minix makes good & well supported boxes...q10 pro/q5 pro, u1, etc...around RM 500-600...these are easily recommended.

Wd live and acryan pohd with sigma or realtek chipsets used to be most popular premium media player years ago when boxes just came out.
They had limited online capabilities, and failed to keep up.
Now, both overrun by androids.

A previous user of those boxes will still find the video ouput superior to cheap android boxes.
Of course, the premium ones are good, with all the latest codecs to handle latest formats.
So, best to get a premium android box with ongoing support, can last years.

q10pro... anyone having judders with kodi (16.1 or 17) streams, got to settings/video and disable hardware acceleration media codec (surface).

default setting has both codecs enabled.

I think wdtv live started the streaming evolution, but it really doesn't match their corporate identity & business model, which is selling hdd...so it's understandable...

Google tried with Google TV too...

Popcorn & acryan...was high and mighty, now...

Thanks a lot dwRK, i've been able to upgrade to 3.0.2 firmware with this site. But the problem is still there : It's impossible to choose the audio language and the subtitles in movies in the "media center" when i'm in UPNP mode. There is also the fact that it's impossible to navigate in a folder containing more than 200 subfolders. when i choose folder n° 201, the players exit the "media center".
Can somebody tell me me if with the new himedia they can change the audio of a movie in UPNP mode in the media center ?.
With the 600a it was working perfectly.

Glad that helps...the folder problem sounds like firmware...why don't you feedback to Himedia for a fix...

Hi, does the hicontrol app works as advertised, any issues/bugs with it? I watched a youtube video of it and it seems like an easy way to control tv box. Can you for example use it to launch a video in browser then you press home button/turn off your phone screen while the video keeps playing on your tv? Do you still need airmouse with this app? Does it affect battery life on your phone badly? Any other brand have something like this?

Is the h8 lite enough for just streaming video? Any other options below q5?

Edit: Hmm seems like they are not advertising hicontrol for h8 lite, it doesn't work on this model? Also it says the remote is "Remote with mouse function for use by all Android apps" meaning air mouse?
