or could it be that the channel is only for all subscribers on the event of the wedding? 29 April 2011 from 1pm, free for all subscribers, SD n HD..from 25-29 April, HD only free to Byond and news package subscribers, SD free for news package only? It doesnt actually say there its free for everyone from the 25th to the 29th..unless u can find another source that says so..

Dun think so cos it is not in the interest of the current gomen.

My guess is that Astro will keep Sky News because it's partially owned by News Corp. News Corp also has share in Astro. So Astro is basically adopted brother of Sky News.

If you ask me tho, AC Nielsen is the clueless one. Doctor Who new season launch yesterday. Dun get to see because dun have BBC Entertainment. Fren from US talking about it

Astro has confirmed on FB Sky News is NOT a permanent channel,its for the Royal wedding thats it ! I too guess the same Sky HD was just to carry the event on HD and to save criticisms from customers ! But I find sky has a touch of class ! Sad to see astro never appreciates channels of class and standards!

If thats the reason, then better bungkus CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera coz all those or not the in the interest of current gomen..look at BBC and Al Jazeera..these two channels carry some pro-Malaysian opposition news that can hurt the gomen more than Sky News can..gomen already control all the local news channels content..they obviously think they can control international channels as well..

simple fact is, Astro are dumb to recognise the best channels out there and in turn provide the crappy stuff for their subscribers..

Added on April 25, 2011, 3:50 pmI've been switching between the SD and HD versions, and HD seems to have more and better layout on the screens..they have the clock according to UK time on the bottom left hand screen, and they also have this information bar on the right hand screen that shows weather updates and UK newspaper front pages..would love to have this channel made permanent..and their chicks arent that bad too

BTW, are there any South East Asian country that provides Sky News HD on their network? or are Astro the only one due to the Royal Wedding..? The channel doesnt seem to be made for international viewers, which is good coz of the difference with the other news channels...

I just phone astro to complain about the locked sky news SD channel, they said they are going to look into it, typical!

everyone without news package, complain to astro, ask them to honour their promise as stated in advertisement, unlock skynews SD for all subscriber!

Yes spot on, Sky is News Corp and so is a chunk of Astro. Anything with STAR, SKY or FOX in it is all Murdoch.

Not everything in Malaysia is government interference, this one is corporate. Murdoch has a running battle with the BBC in the UK as he feels they take too much market share from Sky. When Astro were petitioned by the Expat group in KL on why BBCE had gone they said it was 'lack of quality', at the time BBCE was showing State of Play, a multi Bafta award winning drama with film stars James McAvoy and Bill Nighy - widely regarded as one of the best TV shows of the last decade (and adapted into a Holllywood film). They replaced it with BIO and a Britney Spears documentary, the excuse is just laughable, if they'd said it was too expensive or something I might have beleived it.

Yes its confirmed..problem has been fixed..Now all Astro subscribers (normal subscribers, Byond subscribers, non-news package subscriber, news package subscribers) can all view Sky News on channel 514 for SD version and 700 in HD..

Now lets hope this channel becomes a permanent channel.I dont expect it to stay straight away, but probably in the near future..

Well, if they say too expensive I'm sure the Expats and some other folks who understand quality (myself included) will offer to accept a subscription fee hike. So it won't go in Murdoch's way also.

Now I hope BBCE comes to UniFi. But then if they go to UniFi people will bising, especially those in East coast, Sabah, and Sarawak, because UniFi just won't launch there yet. Heck, many towns in West Coast and even many parts of Klang Valley still don't have the service.

Sumore UniFi have no PVR function yet, and cannot record using DVD Recorder- got Macrovision protection, even on local channels like RTM and TV3.
