make sure you have 2nd init as boot before installing CM7/MIUI. No 2nd init, no CM7, no MIUI

you can check under settings > about phone > android version

Thanks. Really clear my confusion earlier. Below is the instruction i found for modding to miui. It doesn't mention anything about SBF. That's why i wonder why CM7 need extra SBF file..

1. Download Defy 2nd init installer 1.4 ONLY from here.
2. Run the 2nd init installer following the instructions closely.
3. Boot into Custom BootMenu by pressing volume down when device flashes a blue led at bootup. Set default boot mode to 2nd init.
4. Select Recovery, Custom Recovery. Choose "Wipe Data/Cache" option. Let finish.
5. Choose Install .zip from SD Card, select the MIUI roms .zip and let it finish.
6. Let the rom boot for first time.
7. Done! Enjoy!

As instruction above doesn't mention on SBF, when actually i need to use it? and when actually i upgrade it to gingerbread? does it come with the rom (MIUI/CM07)
Btw, what is Nighty Build? Is it theme for CM07?

those running CM7 recommends using the Nordic ROM as a base, which is the reason to use it, although i dont think it's really required. you can start at root and installing 2nd init first, and follow the guide from there, or you can try to flash to Nordic before installing CM7. depends on you.

anyone did a straight update from stock SEA ROM to CM7/MIUI? i've lost my easy downgradability very long ago, but i'm not bothered. dont plan to run stock anyway, so just cross fingers and hope nothing happen.

Now defy still on android 2.1?

6. for me i prefer MIUI. and u can always change between this 2 without problem.
just wipe data,cache, dalvik then install from zip ur CM7 or MIUI. (vice versa)

hey, wat would happen if i reflash my miui without wipe data/cache/dalvik while im currently on miui? jus wanna see if it can fix my failure to move app to sdcard issues.

The Gmail app. It is missing in my app list. Need to use the email app to set up my gmail. i thought there is supposed to be an app specifically for gmail?

using wat ROM?

After installing CM7, I've already installed GAPPS and the FixBrightness. But still, no Gmail app....

U choose or not when 1st time setup?
its only appear once..
if u skip, i think u need to start again..
