Hi all,
New user here. Interested to mod the defy to custom rom but have few question before. Hope someone can help me to clarify:

1) What is the diff between CM7 and MIUI and which is the recommended rom?
2) From what i read, correct me if im wrong, CM7 is base on Froyo while MIUI is base on Ginger?
3) I have downloaded files needed, but why CM7 require SBF and what is SBF file?
4) Total size i need to download for CM7 is almost 200Mb (SBF + CM7) while MIUI only 80Mb, why the size is totally different?
5) My defy is new, so i guess it is eclair, can i straight away mod it to MIUI? Or do i need to upgrade it first?

Thanks. Really clear my confusion earlier. Below is the instruction i found for modding to miui. It doesn't mention anything about SBF. That's why i wonder why CM7 need extra SBF file..

1. Download Defy 2nd init installer 1.4 ONLY from here.
2. Run the 2nd init installer following the instructions closely.
3. Boot into Custom BootMenu by pressing volume down when device flashes a blue led at bootup. Set default boot mode to 2nd init.
4. Select Recovery, Custom Recovery. Choose "Wipe Data/Cache" option. Let finish.
5. Choose Install .zip from SD Card, select the MIUI roms .zip and let it finish.
6. Let the rom boot for first time.
7. Done! Enjoy!

1. Official SEA 15 ROM <== I have 3.4.2_177-005_NORDIC size 180mb, this also SBF rite? Is it the same?
2. RSD Lite 4.9 <== Got
3. Superoneclick <== Got Superoneclickfor2.1
4. Motorola Defy® Drivers <== Got
5. 2nd Init 1.4 <== Got
6. ur ROMs of Choice..put on SD card <== This is MIUI or CM07? Got
7. Swype® . <== Where to get this?
8. A cup of coffee. <== Will do later..

As instruction above doesn't mention on SBF, when actually i need to use it? and when actually i upgrade it to gingerbread? does it come with the rom (MIUI/CM07)
Btw, what is Nighty Build? Is it theme for CM07?

going to install miui, may i know how to apply the miui hotfix?

does it have red color line during camera/video mode? same with me, thought my lens got problem.. But the picture output no issue.. so, this is because of the red lens?

yup, worse if dark environment..

nope, already flash nordic froyo from stock then straightaway to miui yesterday..
really nice ui.. feel in love with it..

anyway, im new to android..

1) miui doesnt have calendar? my miui got calendar icon but cannot set event due to no calendar.. do u seen same issue?
2) how to change contact to display last name first? for example: Ahmad Abu to Abu, Ahmad.. is it possible?
3) how to apply the miui hotfix? same way on flashing miui? have try this but it stuck at moto logo only..

if using miui.. go to setting >> personal>> Personalization >> Sound Setting >> Vibrate Setting
put always = on

btw, read from somewhere that miui will have an update every friday..
wow, that is fast.. mine still not upgrading to ver24..
waiting for next update..

but i do read first on the instruction before confident to flash..
im not even try the motoblur..
