Not yet OC, but suspect it's running at 1GHz. Unfortunately Setvsel makes it reboot.

Reboot means error. U use custom or stock rom? Miui ok but cannot go Hotmail page. Anyone can help me???

Hi all,
New user here. Interested to mod the defy to custom rom but have few question before. Hope someone can help me to clarify:

1) What is the diff between CM7 and MIUI and which is the recommended rom?
2) From what i read, correct me if im wrong, CM7 is base on Froyo while MIUI is base on Ginger?
3) I have downloaded files needed, but why CM7 require SBF and what is SBF file?
4) Total size i need to download for CM7 is almost 200Mb (SBF + CM7) while MIUI only 80Mb, why the size is totally different?
5) My defy is new, so i guess it is eclair, can i straight away mod it to MIUI? Or do i need to upgrade it first?

Thanks in advance for answering my doubt..

1) CM7 is a pure performance mod while MIUI is an eye candy ROM based on CM7 but designed to look like an iOS

2) CM7 and MIUI is both Gingerbread based

3) Both CM7 and MIUI has the same installation method, and both need sbf

4) CM7 should be around 100+MB and MIUI is about 80MB, and you have to get a full sbf, which should be a minimum 160MB and above

5) you can mod direct to MIUI or CM7, but make sure you have the proper files ready, and the latest RSD Lite for flashing

I'm guessing you better read more, since your information are all wrong, and not flash first. Get comfortable and read xda or the guide in here before attempting to flash. It can be a daunting (and expensive) experience if done wrongly.

I flash miui with stock rom, does it affect upgrade or downgrade ability to stock rom??

SBF.. I dunnoe also..
but sbf is stock ROM file (for Motorola set..) that we use to restore back to like out from factory.

btw.. before u start flashing, u highly recmended to download all required file before start..

files as below.

1. Official SEA 15 ROM (extracted. only needed if u on 2.1 or in case wanna revert back to stock ROM..for whatever reason)
2. RSD Lite 4.9 ( for Flashing that SBF above )
3. Superoneclick ( to ROOT aka jailbreak ur Moto®
4. Motorola Defy® Drivers ( to make sure ur PC recognize ur phone )
5. 2nd Init 1.4 ( for trouble free flashing )
6. ur ROMs of Choice..put on SD card ( for obvious reason also )
7. Swype® . A must for me..
8. A cup of coffee. ( to keep ur eyes open to behold the greatness of custom bootanimation. )

Tried to install CM7. Stuck at trying to enter into boot menu. stuck at the android + triangle sign for a long time. is it supposed to be that long? anyway, a bit sleepy & tired now. maybe continue tomorrow. my defy will be on Froyo tonight.

try press both vol up + down.
and should be able to go into stock recovery ,
then wipe data/reset.
usually its work for me.
