2. How to uninstall 3rd party apps ?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Press SETTINGS key ( the last key on the right ) - Select Settings/Applications/Manage Applications Scroll down the list of apps shown. Tap on the app you wish to uninstall. In the new apps window , just select " Uninstall"
3. How to I enable apps to be installed on SD card ?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Press SETTINGS key ( the last key on the right ) - Select Settings/Applications/Manage Applications Scroll down the list of apps shown. Tap on the app you wish to move to SD card : If the box " Move to SD card" is not greyed out - just tap on it . The app will be move to SD card OR you can download from Market and install the free app " App 2 SD" to do it
This is another lengthy way to enable it : To install an app to the SD card on Android Froyo, the application itself needs to support it. However, the Froyo system installs all new applications on your device’s internal memory by default, except for those that explicitly request external installation. Luckily, it’s possible to make your Android 2.2 phone put apps on the SD card by default instead. Here’s how:
First you have to enable USB debugging on your Android device from Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging. Now you need to download and install the Android SDK on your computer from http://developer.android.com/sdk/. Once you’ve downloaded and extracted the package to the folder of your choice, run SDK Setup.exe and click on Available Packages to the left. If you get an error message at this point, enable “Force https://…” in the Settings. From the list of available packages, select “Usb Driver package”, click on the Install Selected button in the bottom right corner and follow the prompts. Connect your phone to your computer with a USB-cable. Your OS will prompt you to install new drivers. Choose to install them from the android-sdk/usb_driver folder. Do not mount your device; you only need to plug-in the cable. Next, run a command prompt and navigate to the Android-SDK\tools folder. In Windows, this is done by selecting Run from the Start Menu (or by pressing Win+R) and typing cmd. You change drives in the command prompt by entering the drive letter followed by a colon (, and change folders with the CD command. For example, to enter the Android-SDK folder, simply type cd android-sdk. In the Android-SDK\tools folder, type in adb devices and you should get a serial number starting with “H” in return. All you have to do next is entering adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2. Voilà, you’re done! Android will now install apps to the SD card by default. To switch back to storing software on the internal memory, enter adb shell pm setInstallLocation 0. I should point out that it’s preferable to install certain apps to the main memory, since it will take a while before the SD card becomes available when you start your phone. Applications installed on the memory card will also be unavailable to the system each time you mount your phone as a disk drive. The internal storage is probably quicker as well, even though Google claims that “there is no effect on the application performance so long as the external storage is mounted on the device.” In general, apps that integrate with the Android OS and that often run in the background is better to install on the internal storage, while games and most other applications will have no problem chilling outside on your SD.
Homescreen widgets should be installed to the internal storage as well
4. How do I transfer files through wireless from PC to the phone ?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Before we go into the details, you need to install several applications on your Android phone:
ES File Explorer is an excellent file manager for Android. It comes with a built in search function, image viewer, and most importantly a LAN browser that we’ll use to transfer files to our computer through Wifi. swiFTP is a lightweight FTP server that lets you transfer multiple files from Windows, Linux, or Mac through a secure FTP connection. Both of them are available for free from the market Tutorial guide : http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/41583/how-t...one-wirelessly/

I would recommend 2 good apps for this purpose: 3G Watchdog and Data Counter Widget. These are widgets which you can display on the homescreen. 3G WD display your current usage for the current day while the Data counter display the monthly total to date. Both widgets when selected allows you to view your daily, weekly and monthly statistics. Download these from Market and explore it - there are free versions

1. What is ROOTING and how will I benefit from it ?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Root allows you run as "superuser", effectively giving you total control over the OS. You can add/remove stuff from the device memory, change ROMS, recovery images, themes, backup installed apps...
NOTE: After extracting the exe file, You have to copy the NAVISEA folder into the external micro SD card
Update your free maps every month ( first week) from : http://www.malfreemaps.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=9969 Run the exe file in PC - copy all the extracted files and just copy over and replace those files in the SD card folder : Navisea/Maps/Malaysia
4. Do I need to use TASK KILLERS on my phone ?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
This is a debatable topic. Personally I don't use any Task Killers. The official stand from Google is Task Killers are unnecessary for Androids. I quote from Google :
By default, every application runs in its own Linux process. Android starts the process when any of the application's code needs to be executed, and shuts down the process when it's no longer needed and system resources are required by other applications. A content provider is active only while it's responding to a request from a ContentResolver. And a broadcast receiver is active only while it's responding to a broadcast message. So there's no need to explicitly shut down these components. Activities, on the other hand, provide the user interface. They're in a long-running conversation with the user and may remain active, even when idle, as long as the conversation continues. Similarly, services may also remain running for a long time. So Android has methods to shut down activities and services in an orderly way.
5. When surfing with default browser, if I have scrolled down many sections , is there a shortcut to go back to top taskbar, instead of having to scroll up many sections again?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
I would highly recommend Dolphin Browser HD as an alternative browser. Try it and 9.9/10 you will not want to use the default browser anymore. It is not only faster and have great Tab and bookmark features. As for your question, I don't think there is a solution for the default browser and quite few other browsers too. However Dolphin with its GESTURE features will help you greatly
QUOTE : Quote from Softpedia Gesture commander feature is one of the most useful functions of the browser, as it shortens the time to access a website or do another actions such as, go back, forward, go to the top or end of a webpage. Basically, you can draw a special sign on the screen and the application will recognize it and act accordingly by automatically sending you to the webpage you previously specified. To make a gesture command you will need to click on the small hand on the left bottom corner of you browser and then draw the sign on the screen.
The small hand icon can be moved on the right bottom side or you can hide it. There's a number of predefined gesture controls that you can check by going to going to Settings / Gesture settings. You can also create you own gestures by clicking on the Create a gesture option. From what I noticed, the sign are immediately recognized and greatly improves the functionality of the application. There's no need to scroll through your bookmarks or scroll from the top to the bottom of a webpage, as you can do it with only two clicks.

7. I want to replace the default SE home launcher. Which 3rd party home launcher is the best ?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
The popular ones are Launcher Pro, ADW Launcher and Zeam. My favorite is Zeam. All these launchers has their own pros and cons. You should try out and see which suits your needs better. Overall I can say these alternative launchers is slicker and smoother than the SE default launcher You can read a review of these here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807908
There is a new 3D launcher SpB Shell 3d - not recommended for the Xperia Arc - it lags terribly as this launcher requires ahuge amount of memory which the Arc lacks. It however works magnificently and flawlessly slick and smooth on the INcredible S
8. How do i test the Arc 's hardware from phone app ?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Launch phone, enter the following : *#*#7378423#*#*
The following tests can be done - choose the one you are interested in : - Keyboard switch, touch screen display led/illumination, speaker, earphone, microphone, secondary microphone, vibrayor, camera, flash led, bluetooth, wlan, gps, compass, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, proximity switch, real time clock, total call time, external memory, security, fm radio, battery test, flip slider counter, verify certificates, irda test, hdmi test
9. How to reduce battery drain as the camera app when closed does not fully closed ?

1. Install a 3rd party camera app, problem solved (e.g. Vignette)
2. Or reboot after using SE camera
3. Or kill camera task after using SE camera (Settings > Applications > Running Services > tap "free ram" area at the bottom right and look for camera task (I HAVE NOT USED THIS METHOD BEFORE, you can try)
In the meantime, wait for SE firmware update

HOW to connect the phone with FASTBOOT to determine whether bootloader can be unlock ?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
All phones will have a locked bootloader by default. Unbranded and simlock-free phones will be unlockable through some tool Sony Ericsson will release (probably). You can check if your device is unlockable by connecting it to fastboot. If fastboot recognizes your phone, you will be able to unlock it when Sony Ericsson releases its tool.
1. download fastboot.zip (www.share.cx/files/216783534118/Fastboot.zip.html) 2. unzip fastboot.zip 3. power off phone 4. press and keep pressed menu key and plug in usb cable, notification led should be blue now 5. open cmd.exe 6. cd to the directory where fastboot.exe has been unzipped to 7. type "fastboot devices" and hit return 8. watch what happens
if you see something alphanumeric (see attachment) plus "fastboot" then you're lucky, your bootloader can be unlocked.
if nothing happened, try installing PdaNet (www.junefabrics.com/android/download.php) and retry. its installer comes with the needed driver files. still nothing happened, your bootloader cannot been unlocked the official semc method
UNLOCKING the Bootloader is now available : With these , it will mean one can installed customized roms when available. However do read SE grandma /grandpa warnings about unlocking : http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/
TUTORIAL : Unlocking the bootloader
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Warning! This procedure will wipe the /data partition of your phone.
1. Download: -fastboot package: http://www.multiupload.com/BMJ24IL6XY -x86/x64 drivers: http://www.multiupload.com/0XZV1LXRVA 2. Go to: http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions 3. At the bottom click 'Continue' and enter your IMEI (type *#06# to find out), name and email address 4. You should now receive your unique unlock key 5. Extract fastboot.rar and open fastboot folder 6. Hold SHIFT and right click on the background of the folder 7. Select 'Open command window here' 8. Connect your phone in fastboot mode (turn phone off, hold menu button and plug in USB Cable) 9. In the cmd windows type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version 10. If a value is returned, it means the phone is correctly connected 11. Type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY and replace KEY with the key provided in step 4. 12. You're device should now be bootloader unlocked

DEMO of the EXMOR R sensor technology during the preview held at Jayaone on 26 March. It was indeed impressive that under very low light conditions the picture inside the box were captured . The ARC will take superb photos with clarity on foreground and background under low light conditions. Most of us tested our phones on the Exmor box and all came out disappointed as we only see black screens on our phones Video from soyacincau.com
The official statement from SE : The first batch of models to benefit from the Exmor R technology is the Xperia Arc, Xperia Neo and the Xperia Pro. What this means is that these models will be able to take superior quality photos even in low lighting conditions.
For those technically inclined the Exmor R is able to produce these amazing photos because its metal wiring is located beneath the photo diode instead of above it. This results in less loss to image quality. Even with this enhancement the CMOS sensor still retains its low power consumption requirement and its fast operation, making you take more pictures at a faster rate and for a longer period of time.
If you love taking photos then you will definitely love the quality the Xperia models with Exmor R offers. The Xperia Arc, Xperia Neo and Xperia Pro are all upcoming models from Sony Ericsson which should be released soon.

If I assign custom ringtone (on SD card), it will randomly change on each restart (or after using USB connection). Seems to be a bug with Gingerbread and still happening with Nexus S on Android 2.3.3.
There should be one coming from SE.. but dunno when
Added on April 8, 2011, 11:33 pm I have the Desire HD and Xperia Arc... both about the same, quite smooth.
But occasionally, there will be "stutter" when you swipe around the UI or opening app... not serious, quite negligible. Maybe next update from SE will be even more optimised.
Android should be able to manage RAM usage properly, I think 512MB shouldn't be the issue.

I bought from phone shop, not Maxis, but have the exact same accessories. So I think HDMI cable is included for all Malaysian sets.
That is the standard package from ALL ori Malaysian sets. Maxis is just hyping the "RM429"

The pricing also nice for a no contract unit. But the discount given by Maxis for 12 months is too little, and Maxis got the monopoly right now so can't expect much.

The pricing also nice for a no contract unit. But the discount given by Maxis for 12 months is too little, and Maxis got the monopoly right now so can't expect much.
neo already released ??how much ?

yup. like my x10 mini.i buy rm 800+ then after 3-4 months price dropped to 400-500+ about x10 not sure ?the first price when its launch is around 1.8-2k ??now 1.1-1.2k .

- Application Protection
It let you lock any of your application including Message or Gallery with password. Of coz there are lotta 3rd party notepad, message or gallery app that enable you to lock your private. But this is 1 for all. So i recommend this. Most important its free.

Just wonder how many ROM left before you installed apps? Spec mentioned 320MB....
The low memory of the Arc is a disappointment. I have install all possible apps on the SD card - on average I have free 50 to 65 MB only. The same amount of apps on my Incredible S without even installing apps on SD card - I have average 200 MB free
This low free memory - I cannot run SpB shell 3D as a home launcher - it lags like S##t and unstable, freezing quite often. On the Incredible S, SPB Shell 3D performs marvelous, slick and smooth
Post # 1 updated with pics of actual box and all accessories supplied in original set

As the Xperia Arc is in similar price range with the htc Incredible S, I have make some comparisons. I have previously commented on performance alone, the Arc loses out in most areas to the IS . These will be further detailed in my blog later. Here are some comparison pics:
Display : Arc win - brighter colors but noticed the ARC carries a yellowish background tint ; it doesn't look as nice as the Incredible S. The browser lools better on the IS as the fonts are bigger

I am having problems with my wireless on the Arc. I have so far tested it with my home wireless ( DLink Wireless ADSL2+ router , model DSL2640T). I will try it later afternoon at the outside cafe It detects my home wireless - took some time, connected but I just couldn't go online - same error message internet not connected. The wireless connection then drop off and this cutoff occurs frequently, many times over a few minutes. So far I have only been using 3G - hope I did not get a lemon ; if so need to send in to claim
Guys - any tips on these ? First time facing such wireless issues having used so many types of PDA/smartphones. Is my wireless defective ?

I am using D-Link router also, the one come with unifi, DIR-615. Most of the time, my phone can't detect my router. Have to turn off wifi on phone, re start router, turn on wifi on phone again, then only work.

I don't think is my router problem as my other Galaxy Tab and Incredible S detects it perfectly and never drop off at all. I will know later this afternoon. Just my bacd luck if I have to sent in for warranty claim
Everything are fine. Display are cristal clear, dun feel much lag. BUT only the battery life is a big turnoff. I seriously doubt that it can survive a full day usage.

Yeah.. to me is very smooth.. no lag nor slow.. i have been using it for 2 days.. really no lag at all.. perform very well..
I even tried d new win7 interface.. very very nice.. u shud try it out..
How much free memory do you have when running spb shell 3D. It lags terribly and freezes occasionally. the transition between panes is not very smooth. The load up of the interface is too slow for my liking - takes up to 5 to 8 secs . I do not know know whether my assessment is too strict but comparing it against the Incredible S - it is obviously out , and I deem unsuitable. I think it could be my low free memory about 50-60 MB affecting it

Mine at 66mb. really benny.. running smoothly and the load up time is around 5sec.
might as well get iphone. the strength of android is severely diluted by the arc's hardware limitation. again SE fails once more.
Huh? Why want to downgrade?
Ok, jokes aside. For the past 12 mths I've owned iPhone 3GS, Nokia N8, Desire HD and now Xperia Arc (no regrets with Arc).
I think Arc is irresistibly sexy and is an excellent value considering the price and amount of accessories given. Also, I don't think SE is targeting the hardware geeks with this phone.
Yes, the internal storage is a bit low for power users. Apps are very small anyway... and just move the games to the SD card (if the game allows that... or just finish the game and uninstall haha)
For those who want a really good looking phone, decent/good performance, reasonable price... Arc is a good choice.
For those who want the best hardware specs, stay clear of Arc. Just keep waiting for the higher and higher specced phones

Smartphone is not like feature phone.
When feature phone send MMS, it will open the GPRS/3G data connection, send the MMS out and close it.
Smartphone also send MMS like this, but if you untick the 'Data Enable', means Android cannot open data connection, so u cannot send MMS.
orait roger! many thanks.. aiyo so new at this ahaha...
so as a smartphone user .. its better to have the data on .. if you are digi prepaid user like me .. just tick it lo ...
1 day maximum rm2 .. or 1 week rm15
but currently im using it free .. coz last time promotion .. topup rm30 free 5mb data .. and now the promotion is topup rm50 free 2mb data ..
my total free data have 58mb
if you are just whatsapp user and light facebook surfer .. it will only cost u 10mb perweek .. i never on msn, rumor say msn drain more data than whatsapp ..
Buying a smartphone without a supporting data plan is just like buying a car but will not drive it because it is raining outside, cos afraid the acidic rain will spoil car paintwork. You do not need a data plan as long as you are always in vicinity of wireless points.
If you are concerned about data cost, DIGI offers many choices - they are the cheapest. I used 2 Digi prepaid plans and one Celcom postpaid plan. Have tried Maxis also. However Digi pricing is still the cheapest. Example on prepaid, as far as I know you can subscribe to just the normal prepaid with voice/data. When you are on data - you can choose max RM3/day or RM5/day. If you are solely on data , they have a prepaid internet package unlimited at RM 2/day. There could be more choices now - just check it at their sales outlet or website

i dun hav any problems with wifi connecting here in my house, im using tplink modem btw..
internage storage yes, i also quite dissappointed with this prob.. even the previous x10 also got 1gb, this one a lot more less, sheesshhh..
btw, i do read somewhere whr on se phones, about the wifi prob, sumthing about the phone can detect until 10, but the modem set to 12, dunno wht im talking about lol..
Suddenly this morning some apps can't connect to internet. For example, Facebook app gives this error: NO PEER CERTIFICATE...and Soccer LiveScores gives "Check data connection", Email gives "Can't connect securely"
Most other apps can connect to internet (Engadget, Browser etc)
Is it a problem with DIGI network or the phone?
PLEASE IGNORE... it's okay now...it is because my system date is 1980 (i took out the battery for a few minutes this morning) ... my mistake

It's okay now. Was my stupid mistake. Took out the battery for a while and the date reverted to 1980.... guess that's why apps with secure connection doesn't work.

I have mentioned previously I couldn't have my Arc wireless working with my home - it can detect but just won't connect to internet. And it disconnect often. So yesterday I tested at 2 cafe - the first one no problem and I'd say is superb ; instant detection and connection to internet was a breeze. Happy proving is not a hardware issue. At another cafe, faced similar to my home experience, detected but just unable to connect to internet. I asked for help from forumer Omnislash9999 and he told me the Arc is locked to N America channel settings 1 to 11. This means if the router channel settings changes dynamically and is above 11, internet connection is not possible ? This is indeed something new to me. Why did SE locked the wifi channels up to 11 only ? Geez - this is an issue one need consider if you are using outside wifi. He send me this link which explain : NAmerica limited 1-11 while Japan/Most of the world wireless channels up to 13
So I assume that I couldn't get the internet connection on wifi possibly due to this reason - my router dynamically changes beyond above channel 11. My Galaxy Tab and Incredible S has no such issues on my home wifi network. What I did, I reset my router and Viola !!! - it can work now and no more drop off issues. If this issue of the Arc being limited /locked up to only 11 wifi channels , this is indeed a setback

Only one annoying thing... if i assign a custom ringtone it will change to random default tones after restart. But this is a Android 2.3 bug, not the Arc,

I tried this yesterday. Finished all the steps at around 4:30pm. Was on wifi for few hours (2-3) on YM, took some shots without flash, 1 short call. Before I went to bed, it's only 1/4 or slightly more bar gone, definitely not more than half. This morning woke up, its showing RED! Now left 12% Before I did this, at least twice I drained the battery flat before I charge it full again. What did I do wrong?

Hmm, I did that yesterday and finished all steps around 6.15PM. I was on 3G for 1 hour and Wifi for few hour and until now my battery still at 91%. Try repeat the steps again and see if there is an improvement.
Hi everyone. Bought mine an ap set from nicklaus. Good seller,
I bought the mystic silver ones and my only complain is that pictures taken will have a yellowish tint which I don't like. Also, I installed the vaulty apps and when u play certain videos u can't really use the fast forward options which I don't understand why.
And if compare to my Nokia N8 PICTURE wise and VIDEO playback, the NOKIA N8 WINS by a mile! (i know it's unfair bcoz of the 12mp but it's does run on a 600mhz processor)
Overall, the best part is that this phone turns head!
This is my rom details : M'sian original from Thorus Guys - please check yours at SETTINGS/ABOUT PHONE. I'd like to update posts in front page if any different from these, especially AP sets. This info will be useful later on when the Arc can be rooted and cooked roms or other official roms available

The website will allow you to enter the IMEI number from your Xperia device, and you'll be given a key to unlock that devices bootloader via Fastboot. SE has promised more details, but as it stands this is great news.

hi benny888, how would you compare arc to htc incredible s?
I remember reading benny's post that Arc fell short compared to Incredible S based on his short hands on during the preview. I am interested to know the difference as well... do share!
i would not prefer it coz the power button, volume, and camera is all covered. so hard to press i assume..
Added on April 11, 2011, 4:35 pm fair price. but i can see the power button is covered. how about volume and camera button? i would prefer those three button is not covered..
all the color shown there.. black or brown. thats all.. no white!

soft one is better.. well protected.. hard one.. i scared when drop.. break together.. hahaha
if u scared drop, better choose hard case. better break case than the phone. soft case won't be able to absorb all the impact, it will transfer to phone.. so the phone might break inside or crack.. i think la..

design wise the arc sure is hott . not sure about spec wise
Actually there is a really nice & useful function but nobody has mentioned it. The function was on IP4 1st but now also available on SEX phones.
It is call FOLDER. I tried to see if there's any limits of the apps that we can store in a folder and it appears that to be unlimited. (i have dragged 52 apps in 1 folder and still no sign of warning box)
The FOLDER function really help to clean up the phone screen :-)

I will be writing a review and comparison in my blog between the two smartphones . Still have not posted it as I have yet to do night video recording comparison - past few days been raining at my place at night. Anyway I have been using the ARC only 4 days vs 3 weeks on the Incredible S. My impressions till today remain the same:
Camera/Video recording : Arc is way ahead very much better . ARC is lighter , display slight brighter and build looks classier
Other than above positives, on general performance it loses out to the Incredible S in most areas : apps installation speed, apps launching, UI slickness and smoothness, UI interface, browsing etc . I will support these with actual numbers I have assess in my blog post

u can choose base on design .. base on camera ..
since u dont mod the phone or play with app much .. the choice is easy as u wan to take picture ..

actually there are already folder apps available on the market, eg. Simi Folder, Folder Organizer, etc
or if you're on MIUI, the folder is actually one of the main widgets that comes with it

Incredible S packs with 1.1GB ROM and 768 RAM, I am assuming that's why is smoother than Arc.
I have an observation. I am sharing my internet connection via wifi on the laptop. When I have both the bluetooth & wifi on, the wifi connection on Arc kept disconnecting and reconnecting. It's not stable. But when I off the bluetooth, it's back to normal. Any ideas as to why?

for example if u wanna create a folder of all angry birds,
drag the angry birds app to the screen. Then drag angry birds seasons and drop it on top of the original angry birds icon..... the system will prompt u to name the folder. By that u have created a folder. Now drag & drop angry birds rio into the folder & u got all 3 apps in 1 folder. Select the folder & it will show all 3 versions just like ios
I just tried to connect my phone to in car USB.. Surprising it won't work and forever loading. Very disspointed.. Previously i was using desire hd.. And it worked perfectly.. I was wndering how come it won't work on Sony... Is there any problem?? Or really take forever to load?? Anyone encounter this before?? Or i have done something wrong??!!??

Arc without a doubt. This is the best phone from SE to date. I initially wanted IS but got too bored waiting....so I get Arc. SiS set will only be out end April cause they give one month Digi exclusive.

Sony Ericsson models usually have compatibility issue with 3rd party charger

Change the USB mode to Mass Storage mode
Go to Settings > Sony Ericsson > Connectivity > USB connection mode
Tried anyway already... It takes forever to load... Thats y I m so disappointed...
I guess, rather than the Arc itself, it might be the Gingerbread bug since your old HTC is using Froyo. Lets see if other Gingerbread phone having the same issue or not before we can say the issue is the SE Arc itself.

Sorry if this has been answered before but can the Arc access paid software in the Market without rooting or any other means (Sorry, I've only been an Android user for a week and HTC IS too.. )

You need root to enable simulate telco access ( using marketEnabler or MarketAccess) to access paid apps Market. What I do now is to buy apps using my other rooted Android, then extract out the apk file and copied it over to the Arc. Or if you have a spore sim card - use it to access

I believe Arc price will stand for quite a while just like SGS. Desire.
To me Arc with those B.E and Exmor tech have its own supporter and the selling point!
After all.. AP price at 16++ and original at 1950 is a damn freaking good price. I heard that Arc is selling very fast and lots of maxis outlet out of stocks...
Just like when i 1st bought SGS.. at 1st normal.. then after selling like hot cakes.

I doubt this will drop not when this phone is selling quite well and the phone has no problems at all. You can always wait next year though
Usually SE phones need to look at AP price to get a good idea what best price it really is, like last time K850 also very high the price, later also drop

I think it has no point proving whether THE ARC is overprice or not? Look at HTC/Samsung/Apple flagship phones.... anything less than 2k???
If u like the phone & the specs are up to it, the u buy & b happy. Since the price is already fixed now, making noise or complaining here also wont change it.
U can definitely wait for the price to fall but KEEP IN MIND THE FREQUENT EARTHQUAKES AT JAPAN HAVE EFFECTED ON MANY GADGETS PRODUCTION INCLUDING SE.....
SO U CAN WAIT BUT WHEN THE STOCK FINISHED IN MALAYSIA, I THINK U GOTTA WAIT FOR MANY MANY MONTHS FOR A NEW BATCH TO ARRIVE

I am just hinting maybe/perhaps maxis press SE to name the rrp at 2099 to allow maxis contracts looks attractive for their own customers, this is unfair to other telcos customers who buy at rrp.
and thats with data enabled (2g/3g/wifi) ?? or plain normal standby
Normal usage (call + sms and surfing via wifi at home from 8pm - 11pm)

Arc is good phone but is it SE price it at 2099 to please and allow maxis to sell faster? Maxis has lots of outlets and marketing, maybe that's why.
Why you so butthurt? If you like the phone, then just buy it or if you think you can't afford it right now, just wait until the price drop which is not so soon. End of story

Exactly. Watch this.
Once the Sony factory in China has run out of supplies for their Exmor R camera, be prepared for some serious wait.....
You guys really rich lah, rrp 2099 also go and buy
Quite reasonable lar.. considering SE track record.... X10 was RM2700 at launch.... and my fren bought Aino a couple of months after launch at nearly RM2K.
I bought the Desire HD at RM2299 last year.... so, overall, I'm satisfied with the Arc's price.

i tested my friend Arc and compare with my X10.. seiously, lots of improvement for nite/dark scene... pic quality really good...
so i guess, its the best in town for.. im comparing wth X10 cos there's no other android phone can beat X10 quality before this...except his bigger brother Arc...

the point is , many ppl can live with it .. so why bother ..
talking about same spec ... arc is cheapest among the other during the first launch rrp price correct me if im wrong
Few days ago, someone PM me to ask abt the battery life... but I can't give a very good answer as it was still new. So i did the idling testing and posted the result here.
The only conclusion is it's at the moment slightly better than my Desire HD.
As for the battery life for actual use, it varies depending on usage pattern. But for low to moderate use, I guess abt 30~40 hours shouldn't be a problem.

Just for testing la. Also, this is not my first Android, so nothing much to explore or play around with.... everything will be turned on when needed
And I still have the Desire HD around ma
totally agree. I also turn off most of the stuffs and only on it when needed. No like u need 3G & Wifi all the time. Even the bravia engine is off for normal use bcos i really dont see the need of it for my daily usage.

LOL double layer.. double protection response to the touch screen still good tho..
Happened to me too... generally still responsive. But sometimes when I swipe around the home screens or the contact list.. it will accidentally open an app or open a contact.
I have removed the second layer and leave only the pre-applied layer... no more accidental taps now:)

hahaha when you guys mentioned it i checked and found that the screen protector is already applied waste my time going to shop looking for screen protector, failed on my attempt to install the screen protector given in the box
guys.. how come some of my downloaded apps from market are listed in my apps, but some are not? quite a hassle to search them one by one to look for update? didn't experience this before..
but now that you mentioned it, i think i might have applied my spare protector on top of the one that was already applied. LOL

So thats means the Arc already come with preinstalled screen protector? the SP inside the box is the spare SP?
So thats means the Arc already come with preinstalled screen protector? the SP inside the box is the spare SP?
ayam confused...
I think SE calls it "Shatter proof sheet on scratch-resistant mineral glass". Is it a screen protector or not?
There has been a discussion about this for the X10 model (in XDA). For X10, lots of them don't put another layer and some even remove the pre-applied layer.
For me, with just the pre-applied layer seems better than 2 layers (as I accidentally applied the spare one... then removed it a couple of days later)

Duh, I guess I need to remove the 2nd layer. Should've checked the screen properly before putting the 2nd layer...
is there a way to manage our contact, sms, etc? really i want to know.. the arc can't use SE PC Suite. and i just can't find it in SE PC Companion..

so recommended to take out the 2nd layer? although i felt its hyper sensitive to touch in my case.
huhuhu.... I'm malas to take off the 2nd layer... and since its did not interfere with the sensitivity... and it a waste just to take out and... throw?

got left adhesive or not? huhuuhuhhuh... if much better than have to take out... T.T
My second layer I used the spare one in the box. Taking out is easy and no glue, just wipe with cloth.
But I heard the pre-applied layer is sticky and a bit difficult to take out.. but also, just clean properly with cloth lor. Anyway, I'll just leave the pre-applied layer until it is all scratched then try to peel it
