If the CZ lens is in good condition then go for the Zeiss. Why?

80mm and 105mm is really not that much of a difference in terms of focal length but the 16-80 Zeiss is a f3.5-f4.5 while the 16-105 is a f3.5-f5.6 which means it has a darker aperture on the tele end. I would opt for the brighter f4.5 on the tele end. And of course the T* coating.

Erm, Frankly, I still would opt for the tamron 17-50 f2.8 over CZ16-80....

Sharpness wise, when stopped to f4, Tamron is plus minus similar to CZ. That's my own view. Others may contradict.

well, everyone poison u to get this that. my honest opinion, try shoot more with the kitty first... get more idea how lens works... then only think about lens.

if u wan range, there is an 18250 option.
if u wan bokeh and good for low light, there is a tamron1750 option.

what currently u see is about 'upgrading', but afraid when u got it, u will feel its the same as 1855 kitlens (although the range is slightly longer)

not forgetting 18-70 old sony kitlens

SPAM! Hahaha.... another infrequent visit to lowyat alpha thread again. tongue.gif

I miss shooting PC fair gals with everyone in KL... sad.gif So instead of PC fair, I shot Shasha last week at a warehouse here in Kota Kinabalu, at the invitation of a fellow alpha user. It was a great experience as she knew what to do even though it was her first ever modeling experience.

Sony A850 + SAL2470Z. 1/60s, F10.0, ISO200, AWB, 24mm. Shot in cRAW and processed in Capture1 & CS4. One external strobe attached with beauty dish fired from right and a HVL-F58AM fired from the left. Both strobes triggered by radio triggers.

cry.gif my plans to get a sony alpha this month just went down the drain.... so i guess for the time being, i'll just hang around this thread to learn theory knowledge.... blush.gif
btw, currently i'm just planning to photo my pet, sceneries and places when travelling, family, gatherings that sort.... would sony a390 make a good buy for a beginner? is it better to get the twin kit lens set or the single kit lens set for my case? at least it'll give me a target amount to save up.... budget is rather an issue.... rclxub.gif

Get the twin kit lens package. but don't spend too much on accessories. get the basics first. a camera body, 2 kit lenses, decent sized memory card (4gb or 8gb), a simple camera bag. done. don't get conned into buying those cheapo filters for a high price! shakehead.gif

Agreed, but my suggestion would be saving up more and topping up a bit to your budget and get the better sony a33 or a55 or the a580 because of the new technology and significant improvement of these models over the a3xx series. I personally think the 18-55mm is enough and the 55-200mm would usually stay at home except for a once in a blue moon occassion.

So my suggestion would be get the better body and just get the basic kit lens, you don't have to follow everything we say, just learn about photography first. Just ask us anything! People here are quite friendly towards beginners. And share the pics you've taken as well rclxms.gif

Kysham: Very poison! Care to share the position and settings of your lighting??? How did you diffuse the light??? Its so soft!

The key light (outdoor strobe with beauty dish attached) to my right, and a HVL-F58AM on my left to fill in the shadows. That's all the lighting equipment I used. No other light modifiers used. Both light sources triggered using a radio trigger system instead of the sony's built-in wireless function though, since the outdoor strobe can't read the sony's wireless flash signals. fully manual power setting. smile.gif
