wow..nice..maybe i should consider getting this as well .. but now still plan to get 30mm macro lens first..  but my heart also got think wan to get 35mm f1.8..will it like crash with the macro lens 30mm? just cant resist of its 1.8.. especially take the photos indoor    i got 50mm f1.8...but kinda too near when take photos of dinner.. human face become so big if sit beside u.. my fren told me, even pimples of my fren's face also can see already.. 

thanks! then both really got their own pro...  yeah i also think if get 35mm i sure will dump 50mm in the dry box already.. but  ur macro len's photos' poison is just too strong!! make me cant give up 30mm macro lens first..   

i suggest play makro first, u can play with 50mm for bokeh for now ma...until bored with macro then can sell the 50mm then get 35 1.4 hopefully if sony release....then at the end u got macro and bokeh wooo

yeah i also think like tis..i wan tested with that macro lens if shoot indoor hows the performance compare with my 50mm f1.8...if really not good enuff indoor, might get 35mm then sold 50mm.. good suggestion!

True, but changing the WB in PP could also give you chances to try out other different WB settings as well. You could get 3 different pics with different WB portraying different moods with 1 pic. That's just my opinion. I love shooting in "cloudly" WB setting as it makes all my shots warmer than normal.

RAW is the way to go! Assuming if you have enough time to PP it.

the calculation is complicated, but i can give u a general one, which is GN = distance × f-number.

but for sony, its, given condition of F1, iso100, flashzoom105, and its 58meter.

but for "how far the effectiveness" is totally diff thing! there is calculation of light fallout...

i give u a PEEK if u understand...

from the photo, lets study it.... (rayng will be happy on this)

u see i wrote F16 nearest to the flash, because that is the most intense light gathered, F16, iso100, so if u shoot bugs(incest, macro), and the flash is that near, if u set F11, ur photo will be overexpose by 1 stop, F16 is the accurate reading.

carry down, F8,..... F5.6.... F4... now, at F4 area, is where u set ur camera at F4, iso100, ur subject will be nicely lit!

now, new key point, u notice that, F4 area is larger then F8, that is light fallout, the distance it traveled, the light get less and less and less. right? light fall out also cause shadow fall out, the further u are, the slower the shadow fall out, if nearer u are to the source (F8 area) the faster the shadow fallout, hence harsher shadow (aka "burning tool")

now, here is something u must learn to ur advantage! knowning the light fallout lengthen after a distance... so if u tried to do a wedding portraiture with 2 person, or family group portraiture, by putting a distance of the flash give one advantage... let's see

if the group photo of 3 people, if i place them at point F8, F5.6 and F5.6, u will notice the first person is overly expose by 1 stop. but if i place the 3 at F4 placing, they are similiar within the F4 stop.

from the above statement, u learn this, when u shoot someone A with direct flash another person B is 2 step behind, u notice B is 1 or 2 stop under then the person A! if u take few more step back, and shoot, because of the light fallout lengthen, even the B is 2 feet behind the A guy, both will result in same exposure(more or less)

imagine the photo above is extended to 15 meter wide wall(sorry la, my house fence wall is short) and my flash power is set to full blast (forgot to mention the above blast is only 1/16)... then understand the below part...

that why, shoot group photo, or single portrait, within 3 meter distance, its easily have darken background,
but when shoot a stage event (10-15 meter away), the direct flash seem gentle on the peoples on stage... because the light is evenly spread over at that distance (10-15meter)...

sorry if i am bad in explaning... but try to catch it

for those who wonder, i never joined joemacnally or louis pang workshop (only attend sony basic workshop once, and now i am a trainer for them ), all this is some logical thing i notice during my photography journey, i got this understanding/idea of light at only 10 months into DSLR.... btw, the thing i mention above, i never seen any, ANY book has written them yet. and i believe a lot ppl will damn blur what the hell i talking about >.<

the photographer use compact camera? his shot like compact camera can do. no control over light nor editing to enhance the photo. GWC. i shot nude fine art before, i can say, its DAMN hard to find a good angle to shot >.< human body show more flaws then u think! with cloth much easier(to hide flaw) -___-

CM is good, there are many more, there is a big group from penang very good too, then got reon from kl... many more, who are good even without ps!~ hehehe i will do some PS on my photo, but the photo itself will retain as much as the original as possible, i remove thing like pimple, baby hairs, baby fat (yes, some alteration), teeth whitening(i cant stand yellow teeth) and brighten eye white (underexpose eye is the key factor that the photo lose interest) etc, but of all those editing, skin smoothening tak ada... lmao.

ieR: Nice out of frame edit! Though I would say commercial studio work benefits from a standard zoom - I found 50-80mm to be the sweet spot.

ahpingko: LOL! I had that problem also. Ended up not buying because there was a chance it would not be 1 of the 2 that I wanted. Still, you made it look cool especially in #3.

Also, your Pajero could be more in focus to avoid giving it that macro look. Use the wireless flash to hide the plastic-looking parts of the jeep.

I was hoping that it would be a Z as I think the rumour said that it would be more expensive than the 1680Z. Well, I think Sony is just trying to copy the canikon lens line up as both have the 17-85 which is similar to the 1680Z and the 17-55 f2.8 which is similar to the upcoming 16-50 f2.8. A new 1680Z would kill off the old lens which is unwise as it is just released about 5 years ago. I think lens upgrades happen after at least a decade or so. Currently the 1680Z still offers one of the best IQ in its class of zooms so I don't think that Sony will upgrade that lens anytime soon.
