Yes ... you should be able to use it in USA and the same goes for any physical transactions for any locations in the world. We recommend you contacting the bank whenever you use the card overseas for security purposes and to prevent for the bank for blocking your card for suspected fraud (this might happen should the bank's fraud detection system auto blocks your card). |

May I know what makes you think that your card would not be able to be used overseas ?Seems this myth lingers in everyone mind for as long as I could think of. I'm aware that sometimes Citibank, SCB, HSBC agents (especially Citibank agents) will tout their card as internationally recognized but don't be too quick to believe what they say. Some facts to consider .... 1. Some of the agents has never been anywhere overseas before so how do they know? They are reading stuff which their boss/colleagues/marketing info tell them to tell you - so are they really sure that their cards are accepted worldwide? Pop question - in which country credit cards are not accepted at all ? In which country only VISA is accepted ? (See if they can answer this) 2. Some so called internationally recognized cards are not even "recognized" because they don't have a strong presence in that country. Example Hana Bank is likely to be more well known than "HSBC" in South Korea. And vice versa ... while Hana Bank is strong in Korea, you would not recognize them in Malaysia. But would this matter ? (Read next) 3. All credit cards with Mastercard / VISA affiliation logo are recognized worldwide and that's what matters. Bank brands are secondary. Go to Korea where cc are widely used as primary payments - nobody cares about what brand/bank origin of card you hold so long the transactions are approved and they get their money/payments. Fact, debit cards has the same capabilities as well so long they carry that logo. ** Don't get confused with International money withdrawal - that's Cirrus. As hye mentioned, DA cards are accepted wherever you see Visa or MasterCard logo anywhere on earth. But to be kiasu, still get another card as standby, or maybe a Visa or MC Debit Card. I had no problems using any of my credit cards in US. And I could withdraw cash from ATMs with my UOB MasterCard Debit Card (max RM1K/day) but not my RHB MasterCard Debit card. This post has been edited by Gen-X: Apr 30 2012, 05:08 PM |

Yeah i understood credit cards with Mastercard / VISA affiliation logo arerecognized worldwide. I also heard last time that some merchants overseas does not want to accept credit card from an unknown bank. Maybe this is during magnetic stripe era because due to the ease of counterfeiting such cards. Probably it's different now.Seems this myth lingers in everyone mind for as long as I could think of. Maybe this is during magnetic stripe era because due to the ease of counterfeiting such cards. Probably it's different now. Oh yes, I forgot. In US the merchants will accept any credit card with Visa or MC logo BUT they may ask for your ID (i.e. Passport) and if the name on the card is different than your ID, that may cause a problem. Same in Europe, can't remember which country, but in a LV store, they won't accept my friend's card because she had her "christian" name on the card which is not her legal name. And you'll be surprised, they are more "unknown" smaller banks in US issuing credit cards. And by the way, besides the Debit Card I mentioned, Citibank ATM/Debit card is great too for cash withdrawal. This post has been edited by Gen-X: May 2 2012, 06:36 AM |

I have no problem using credit card (visa/ mc) issued by CIMB & Maybank while making a purchase at major store in the UK (London, Scotland), France, Spain and Finland. In France & Spain, you must have your credit card pin number (almost all store do not require signature) which you key in during the check out of the item u purchase. I guess in this way its more secure since signature can be easily duplicated.

We have extensively discussion about experiences and hazards of doing so online. There're real cases and in the first place ... this is a discussion forum not sales solicitation area ... there are other places to do so. You may have open a thread b4 in LYN and it is OK for you but not in here, I hope this is crystal clear and you do not create excuse to qualify yourself just because you are OK with it.no need to OMG , i do buy a property / sell stuff from online , why not ? since everythings is face to face meeting and get stuff . that's all . no harm too . |
