Should I get the AMOLED set or the SLCD set. Heard not a really big difference.

AMOLED, Colors are vibrant. SLCD, a bit more realistic. Personal preference really.

IMHO, that's the worst thing you can pick up now. doh.gif

Galaxy Ace, or Ideos X5 is a better choice.

BTW, budget?

Im using stock rom for X10. no issue and lag for me. And 2.3 is coming it should improve the os performance itself.
If user does not know how to update firmware. Just sent to service center. Simple as that.
*
You're using stock ROM for X10 without tweaks and there is no issue and lag? You must be the lucky one (or have low expectations). My factory-resetted stock UI was laggy as hell compared to lower-end models like Legend and Ace. Even the app drawer scrolling lags. Rooted, JIT-ed, removed crap like Timescape, Mediascape, etc, and it's all good now smile.gif

S-AMOLED set is much better. SLCD is not as good. Use a black background S-AMOLED set Nexus S and the battery will be user posted image

Huawei Ideos X5 or Acer Liquid Metal. Both share similar specs but X5 has a better camera.

What's the best value for about 1.9k currently? Prefer dual-core (quite few choice then), but obviously SGS2 is totally out of budget right now.

Get your budget a little higher and wait for the Exynos version SGS2 which will retail for around RM2300. If you can't wait, get the LG Optimus 2x. It has some issues though.

For Ace VS x10, i say you go for the x10 if you need the better camera. Else, go for the Huawei X5 or the Acer Liquid Metal.

Latest update and stock firmware and not even rooted. Browsing, normal apps, taking pictures and video, music and video playback, quite a lof of games and no issue so far and i used to have 2 x10 original set with 1 month apart. Sold 1 and bought Arc.

I am thinking a phone with decent spec, prefer

-a good glass (something like gorilaz or something, I'm rough with my phone).
-A good battery life (Important point, I hate to bring around my charger everywhere i went)
-Can take pictures and video which is good enough just for emergency (not expecting real camera performance)
- Portable (not too bulky like HTC desire)
- Decent or good enough screen (not sure what am I looking for)
-Budget 2k plus minus, can go up or down. Hopefully way down tho

Eying Galaxy S II but you would have to pay a premium for it.. for non original phone summore..

Guys i really need your help in recommending a phone for me urgently.
I was planning to get the Acer Liquid metal and i was told by the phone supplier it would arrive this wednesday but he bailed in the end.I haven search around the shops but it was come to a conclusion that not many shops carry this phone.
So right now i am planning to get samsung galaxy sl which would increase my budget of course because there are no other phones which i believe that are in the market is similiar to the liquid metal.I wanted to get samsung ace at the beginning but with the SOD problems and the specs are lower than the acer i change my mind.

So right now if i were not be able to get the liquid metal in local shops by tommorow i will probably go for the SL.The only thing about the SL is that it has no FLASH! oh dilemma dilemma. What other phones that has at least a decent camera with flash, stable and between 1k-1.3k budget?

Guys, I'm thinking of getting an Android device as my first smartphone. Noob here trying to explore the Android world and it's capabilities. Can recommend good device for a starter?

1. Brand: Any brand, but I'm eyeing for HTC.

2. Budget: 1.5k and below, may push to 2k but no further.

3. Specs:
- Have keyboard / keyboard+touchscreen (I don't like touch screen much, preferences are QWERTY keyboard).
- Can upgrade to latest OS, or at least above Android 2.0 (is there much differences between OSes? Links appreciated smile.gif)
- Can put customize ROM; wanted to explore the Android customization to the max.
- Big screen for easy browsing.

4. What you need in the phone:
- Speed; at least no lag if running multiple apps (e.g run Twitter / FB and incoming calls, no lags. My current SE W508 lags like hell! Even SMS and then comes an incoming call can make the phone hang T__T )
- The best battery life under heavy usage (I wanted to hv FB & Twitter & chat apps to be on at most time, if can last for one full day is good enough).

I'm eyeing HTC Desire Z and comparing it with Samsung Galaxy 551 but I heard Samsung Galaxy 551 is hard to find now, is it true?

551 is not flash 10.3 capable. Go for desire z if you need the qwerty. If not, opt for an AP SGS.

Nexus S runs on stock gingerbread. The battery is big and get the S-AMOLED set because if your background is black, it'll only illuminate the parts that have light. So battery life is greatly increased.
Or, you can try getting an AP Motorola atrix. One of the biggest batteries in smart phones
