Earning money from CL is not the same as winning the CL (which he did in the first season, largely with Houllier's players) and Torres was not sold by RB, by the way - cannot add that to RB's credit.

Of course he did with GH players. Do you expect him to come in his first season and change the whole team so he can claim that he win [insert any cup here] with his own players?

it's simple really smile.gif

Thank you RAFA for the good times and the awesome nite in Istanbul, Torres, ECL No.5, etc...
But now is not the time to come back, if ever. No offence. Good man, great professional, that is all.

Kenny Daglish has one very, very important gift to the squad, Morale.
Anyone who reads the Chinese history of Romance of the 3 Kingdoms knows that once a great man in Chinese history said -

"A man with high morale fights like 100 men and fears no opponent he meets" - Guan Yu

And even after more than 1700 years later, it still holds true tongue.gif

Liverpool FC's squad were never close in terms of depth when compared to Man Utd or Chelsea or to a certain extent, Arsenal. And among these, only Arsenal spent less than us in building a team. When Rafa came, his largest spending was before G&H's era and nobody could argue how well Liverpool FC were progressing, however, did Man Utd or Chelsea stop spending then? No, they were and still investing even till today.

Man Utd were crowned as the Premier League champions before they splurged 30 million pounds on Berbatov, so should we not spend more than 10k after getting a respectable 2nd place? Chelsea were champions last season, but they did not stop their spending, they bought Torres and Luiz, that's more than 70 million pounds spent without considering who they have bought before the start of the season.

Liverpool did buy Aquilani after selling Alonso and he failed in his first season due to injuries, Rafa's biggest mistake so far, but let's just see, Drogba took a while to start perform didn't he? Veron didn't come cheap as well. What about Shevchenko? Has Anderson live up to his value so far? Even the great Arsene Wenger failed at Francis Jeffers so Rafa must buy good all the time?

In terms of free transfer, ok, Rafa sucked at getting players for free, but I don't see Chamakh performing at Arsenal yet and he was highly rated. I have never heard of Voronin or Aurelio prior to their arrival at the club. So I would overlook such transfers.

I do not want Rafa back for now, but to call him a failure at Liverpool? I would defend him for the man deserves better recognition than that.

Failed at Francis Jeffers? I think it is more applicable for Jose Antonio Reyes =) Jeffers was just an average player...He wasnt meant to be a top class clinical goal scorer i guess, though he starts a number of games for Arsenal during his 2001 to 2004 period..

come on guys, we won't win harmony here. if he thinks gerard houllier team won the CL, be it then la.

Cant change his unchangable & to us we thinks his narrow mindset, himself, not. Houlliers team should not only won the europa (UEFA cup but 4 others) and should have thrashed the mights of europe in CL (no wait, i remember we struggled or missed to get into CL every season bar 1 - 2, struggled against bayer leverkusen. valencia, ....

its the same camp that's with rick parry then christian poulsen, all won't credit spanish gaffer.

are we trying to play like AC Milan?
attack from the middle, slow building game.
flank attack using wing back?
hmmmm.....Can Carol play like this eh? i think he will prefer to have wingers who can feed him with crosses/ early crosses. blink.gif

But Kenny must have his reasons for not playing 4-3-3.
Like in the Sunderland game, he preferred to play Meireles out wide left instead of playing 4-3-3 and let the fullbacks working on the flanks..

8 million pounds back then in 2001 was huge money, but ya, Jose Antonio Reyes as well, smile.gif Evidence shows, Arsene Wenger isn't flawless when it comes to transfers, just less mistakes.

How was I flaming Arsene Wenger? I was just pointing out that even the great Arsene does mistakes in transfer.

Keane was a failed purchase but how many of us were excited of his arrival? The same goes to Babel.

If buying 1 top class player can replace the hole that we have then why not? We buy Aguero to complement Torres but leave a big gap on our left back position, why not? We buy Messi, but there's no holding midfielder, why not? Not forgetting, Rafa bought to fit the players to his tactics, this isn't Football Manager sir. Granted Aquilani's a bad buy, but don't forget how long did Berbatov and Drogba take to live up to their price tag?

If you prefer to point out transfer mistakes, I can tell you a whole list of players that Jose Mourinho and Alex Ferguson bought that failed. High and low profile ones, but that's another topic for another day.

I would have nothing to argue if one were to call him a control freak because he is and neither would I defend him if one were to say that he lost the dressing room. He makes mistakes, like us humans, like your boss, we tend to misjudge a person's capability, but did Rafa not do well with his damage control? IF your boss were to hire an underachiever with a huge paycheck, would your boss ask him to stop working or just move on and say that damage has been done?

Keane's transfer didn't happen in the same transfer window or the same season as Aquilani by the way, so would G&H approve the Aguero transfer? Or would the money go to the bank as interest payment?

KD will do good as a good Manager, however, Mourinho will be a good second choice if funds is available to him.
