That is what I'm trying to say here, the information once compressed it is gone. Details is lost, there's no way you can recover it since the data is not there already :S.

i tried to convert a pic from nef to jpg, then convert the jpeg back to nef with capture nx2. the sizes go like this

nef (ori) = 9.7mb
jpeg = 5.8mb
nef (coverted from jpg) = 13.9mb blink.gif

KTCY,
how do u think of the NX2?
i havent used it before. previously i was using camera raw (yuck) until i discover capture one (phase one)

omg! that software is awesome. a bit slow and not suitable for event/wedding photographers though. but the conversion of RAW to TIFF is awesome

No big deal, even third party software like LR can do it. It just doesn't look as good compared to adjusting from the real NEF.

I find it very good. Easy to use, one click. But I think capture one should be even better.
For me, I find the color reproduction of RAW much more accurate if compare with LR / camera raw which I used before. That's why I go ask for genuine version tongue.gif

And yes. A bit slow. But can do batch processing also. biggrin.gif

Nice one smile.gif
You can change WB/Hue for JPEG in LR and ACDSee, I think it is also possible in the latest CaptureNX, whoever uses CaptureNX here can help to verify?

I too have 2 bags. One is a sling and another is a backpack style biggrin.gif.

Can change WB in LR for jpeg, but not as flexible like RAW. RAW file you can adjust by small increments of temperature.

I shoot raw and JPEG. You think I don't know ? sleep.gif

Shooting in RAW and JPEG doesn't make you understand how compression work. really I meant it.
e.g you have 8mb of Jpeg file.
where if you have exactly the same file 12mb in RAW.
you lost 4mb of file detail. which magic software an bring your 4mb details back?

well if you use capture NX see how does it work. does it bring you meta data back?

once you shoot in JPEG the picture is directly compressed. and you convert it back to NEF it's getting uncompressed.
even WinRar can do that.
but doing compression and un-compression for many times doesn't bring your detail of the file else will make you loss the detail of it.

Capture one manage to extract more micro detail from you photo. and of course the colour profile of other cameras thingy.
try to find a copy. you will be amaze what your camera and lens can show (details) that you seemed not to be able to see with NX and camera raw

I set single point AF. I want to capture a close up object with one color.
Anyone know how to stop Nikon D3100 camera autofocus while holding snap picture button halfway?
Camera just dont want capture picture and keep focus in and out.

Using manual focus is really pain in the ass.
Object/model/moment can't wait so sometime need capture fast.

What about setting to 3D tracking can solve problem?

No it won't.
You might need to understand how auto focus works.
