Example of condition where lighting tricks AWB and custom balance won't work due to lighting condition. This is why RAW comes in handy biggrin.gif.

Nowadays, I shoot JPEG. Even lighting goes wrong, still can change tongue.gif

You can adjust the WB and Hue for JPEG, but it doesn't look as good as RAW.

Interesting, name of the software?

But I still don't buy the idea, that 'NEF' converted from JPEG will not retain as much details and data compared to the real 12/14 bit NEF. Its still a JPEG in NEF shell.

that is why no one really has just 1 bag.
later on u realise ur backpack too much hassle just for balik kampung trips or go jalan jalan, then u will look for something smaller just to travel light...which will usually be a sling.

jpeg is compressed and NEF is uncompressed.

example:

jpeg = 100ml of concentrated juice to make to 1 litre of drink
NEF = 1 litre of concentrated juice to make to 1 litre of drink

so it's impossible to convert jpeg to NEF. the other way round can.
coz when you took the photo, there is only that much of information, where to create new information?

Yup. I have accumulated a few bags myself. Anybody know where's a good place to get Thinktank Photo's bags around KL/PJ? I know J-One has them. Anywhere else?

Try Capture NX and see. You can save back to .NEF

You can change WB/Hue for JPEG in LR and ACDSee, I think it is also possible in the latest CaptureNX, whoever uses CaptureNX here can help to verify?

I too have 2 bags. One is a sling and another is a backpack style biggrin.gif.

Like what I said, it is still a JPEG inside a NEF nutshell. Basically it is still a JPEG.

Even NEF also got a few level of compression, 12-bit and 14-bit. Compressed, Lossless and Uncompressed. JPEG is only 8-bit if not mistaken, no way it could have retained all the details from a real NEF.

I know how NEF works la.
What I mean capture NX can change JPEG to it's original WB. Check back my post. I was referring to that. And I dump LR to Capture NX because of this. Of course I'm using a genuine copy of Capture NX2 brows.gif

And I'm telling JPEG can save to .NEF.
I didn't state which level of .NEF la. sleep.gif

That is what I'm trying to say here, the information once compressed it is gone. Details is lost, there's no way you can recover it since the data is not there already :S.
