oic, thanks for the review..but seen like i5 and i7 just different about RM250+
so why not to grab a powerful i7 as well.
another thing, any different for gaming between i5 and i7 with the same graphic card GT540M?
*
CPU difference will have little (RTS), or no effect on gaming performance (FPS) nod.gif Of course, performance difference may vary from game to game...
Well, why not pay less RM250 and get more battery life and less heat? laugh.gif
So its down to what you prefer, if you are often mobile, its best to just get i5, i7 is simply overkill if you're not going to use it

Difference should be minimal except for certain game that favour Quad core..

Hihi fellow Penangite rclxms.gif
For RM3k,
Best would be the 14" HP DV4
HP Pavilion Dv4, i5-2410M + AMD HD6750@RM2899
HP Pavilion Dv4, i7-2620M + AMD HD6750@RM3599 (someone selling around RM2.7k in Garage Sales)

As for 15", you might wanna top up to RM3.2k for the better N53Sn and HP DV6 nod.gif
Asus N53Sn, i7-2630QM + Nvidia GT550M@RM3299 [Bang & Olufsen]
HP DV6-6001TX, i7-2630QM + AMD HD6770@RM3699 [Beats], Beats headphones; RM3199 without Beats headphones

yaya..you got the point too..
but normally use at home, so battery life is not a method for me..
if not so big different, i5 is enough for gaming and so on.. rclxms.gif

If you're only using it for gaming, i5 would be enough...
Unless you're using some processor-intensive programs, there's noneed for i7 laugh.gif
Also, you might want to reduce the heat if you're into gaming, another no for i7

Not very sure about the ones used in the engineering field... but for my field, some bioinformatic programs e.g. PAUP, Mr. Bayes etc. are quite processor-intensive, involves alot of calculations which takes months to finish sometimes laugh.gif

My old Acer died on me so need to get new laptop. Could you guys please suggest what laptops is suitable for me?

1. Brand - Anything BUT Acer

2. Budget - RM2 - 2.5K. The less the better because I want to upgrade the warranty to as long as possible. Bad experience coz my Acer spoiled one month after my 1-year warranty expire. Damn heart pain. haha

3. Specs - as good as it can. But if I need to state - more than 2GB RAM

4. Size - 14"

Will be using it alot for my studies (bio stuff). A lot of softwares for phylogenetic analyses and these are statistical tools, so quite tedious and complicated sleep.gif. Other than that, only normal surfing and watching movies.

Help, thanks!

Hihi fellow bioinformatician laugh.gif
You might want to consider these (Acer included since some models come with 3 years warranty):

Acer Aspire 4750, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999
Acer Aspire 4750G, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT 520@RM2249, 3 years local limited warranty
Acer TimelineX 4830TG, i5-2410M + GT540M@RM2499
Asus A43Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(1GB)@RM2399, [6-cell 4400mAH] (2 years international warranty)
Inspiron 14R, i5-2410M + AMD HD6630@RM2349, Free 2nd year warranty: expires 12 May
Lenovo G470, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999

Its best to go for those with better processors and dedicated GPU (GPGPU may help in bioinformatic tools as well iinm)
So the underlined ones would be the best pick, you could always ask for RAM upgrades, the more the merrier for analysis nod.gif

Though if I were you I'd save more money and opt for this one instead:

Well, for those who don't game (and thus don't get laptops with dedicated GPUs)... it would be good to know that the Intel HD3000 would be powerful enough to satisfy their daily needs  nod.gif
But for gamers like us hehe, Intel HD3000 is only there for power saving  laugh.gif
Yeah, I believe you:

[attachmentid=2197323]

Its just weird that for the N43SL and 1215b, there appeared in last month's brochure but vanished in this month's one  sad.gif

It's weird how ASUS is teasing us. I've been waiting for quite a long time to lay my eyes on that babe.
I saw the N53SV during PC Fair though, played with the speakers and it just sounds bad compared to Dell's JBL
Both tested at the Intel PC Guru thing.

He probably know better than us nod.gif Still, not released doesn't mean no more stock hehe
Well, the thing is there's not much, if any performance differences between the 1GB and 2GB GT540M GPU nod.gif
So its down to the difference in battery capacity now

I dunno what Asus Malaysia is doing vmad.gif
I've waited until gave up already haha cry.gif
Yeap, apparently the JBL speakers in Dell are much better than that of Asus...
Personally I think the harman/kardons in Toshibas are also better than the B&Os hmm.gif
Have you tried out harman/kardons bro? rclxms.gif
