Almost all laptops have 6-cell batteries now
Well, the thing is those running on i7-2630QM have rather short battery lives... so its either you compromise on battery life, or compromise on performance...
And since you're doing video editing? Wouldn't a 15" with FullHD be better?

I'm OK if i3 or i5 does the work equally well too.
Oh the video editing is kinda rare though, most of the time is photo editing so I need good resolution display.
I'm always travelling so 15" sounds heavy to me.

Well, unfortunately there's no high-resolution 14" for that price range, you'll just have to make do with the standard 1366x768
These 2 will be good:
13" Asus U31Sd, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT520M@RM2999
14" Asus U41Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M@RM2899

Both have rather strong performance and battery life
If you want to save more money, then the:
Acer TimelineX 4830TG, i5-2410M + GT540M@RM2499

I know you don't want Acer but its has really improved over the years, and this one is simply too irresistible haha
Oh ya, it has long batter life as well~

But the price is 1 month ago, should be cheaper now

Is Asus a recommended brand for laptop?
All this while I'm having only IBM, Lenovo and Dell laptop.

Why is that Acer so cheap?

Asus U series is slim but powerful.. good for someone who oftenly travel with laptop..

The RM100 difference is also because of the difference in terms of GPU performance apart from size
Yeap, Asus is a good brand, especially when its the U and N series we're talking about
The U series generally aims at packing power & portability together in one laptop, so it'll be ideal for mobile users, no compromises

Well, Acers are often know for its low price but same, if not better specs hehe~

Well, you can always find hikari85 and marcus20125 for online purchasing, they're some of the more popular online sellers~
Or you can take a stroll in Garage Sales, there are other sellers as well
Not sure which LYP stores have the laptop, long time din't go there adi hehe~

U41Sv has optical drive whereas U31 don't have... We don't usually use optical drives now do hehe?

Yeah, most brands will offer a free external write along with the laptop purchased... They're as reliable as the stock version, just make sure not to drop it and you'll be fine

The GPU on the U31 is Nvidia GT520M, even though its not very good compared to GPUs in other laptops of the same class, its still way better than Nvidia G310M
Even the integrated Intel3000HD is on par/better than the Nvdia G310M
Oh ya, the U31sd runs on the new Sandy Bridge processor summore, so its best that you take that one instead of the U36Jc

Alright, I'll ask those sellers around for U31. So far I see only one selling U31, others all U36. Probably they didn't update their thread.

Doesn't matter how weak or how rubbish the Nvidia G310M is, integrated Intel HD3000 would never better than it.

Its kinda new, so you may need to spend some time finding it

And Oh ya, for Photoshop, its RAM>CPU>GPU, double checked...
iinm, the CUDA on the G310M doesn't really help much... perhaps can ask astria sifu to clarify this

The processor is high-end dual/quad core processor and using turbo boost. Intel HD3000 play nfs carbon low settings got a bit lag while ATI HD5470 play highest settings of nfs carbon is smooth...

Yeah, we know ATI HD5470 is better than Intel HD3000....
ATI HD5470 > Intel HD3000 >= Nvidia G310M

Imho, its not easy to gauge the relative performance of the Intel HD3000 against the Nvidia G310m since these 2 are of different generations... and its not easy to do benchmarks without the need to take into account the performance differences caused by the different CPU...
