Setting aside RM1,6K for the SSD, left RM3400 for the laptop, the HP DV3 with i7 740QM ?
*
i7 740QM is better than i7-2620M? I was thinking of getting 13" macbook pro with 256gb ssd (cost around 5.4k iinm).. but i will be using windows mainly.. is it a good choice?

is there any other choice than HP DV3?

MBP 13 with i7 + 256GB is RM6430...
Well, i7 740QM is Quad Core older generations, while the i7 2620M is Dual Core second gen, which is better depends your apps.
Though quad core in 13'' might be hot and battery life can be poor..
*
Its RM5948 if educational price..

My main purpose is for MATLAB for video processing. I prefer bringing laptop to anywhere so i thought 13" is the most suitable size for me. Battery also is the main factor. So, which one do you suggest? is it 740QM or 2620M? Or is there any other alternative?

Battery life then its MBP 13, but that only in Mac OS mode..
Windows mode, the battery life falls short as well...
*
if MBP bootcamp with win xp/win7? battery consume more? it will be on par with other brand laptop?

Yup, since the driver is more optimized for Mac OS rather than Windows...
Though, still depends what you plan to do in battery mode..

For exact battery life, better ask here http://forum.lowyat.net/AppleByte
*
i see...

btw, is there any alternative other than HP DM3 for 13" with i7?

oh,thx ya~
so if good in gaming, mean tat oso good in designing work?
thx thx~

I'm not sure on this one. If i'm not mistaken if your designing works related with rendering in 3D, then graphic card is important. else, designing in PS does not need discrete graphic..

I'm not sure... sweat.gif

BD-ROM mostly on 15'' and above and it weight more than 2.5KG...

Stepping up to 14'', there's Asus A43Sv with i7 2630QM, 2.4KG@RM2899, but no Optimus, battery life might be a problem.
*
oh really? yeah, bd-rom is not practical for laptop coz can watch bd on ps3.. ok, removing bd-rom from the spec..

what other model similar with A43SV but with optimus? and thin look also a bonus.. max 4k.. another 1k for ssd haha..

The thing is none, especially with the weight requirement...
Closest is HP DV4 with i7 2620M, but semes like cost@RM3599 or Lenovo V470 with i7 2630QM + Intel HD@MR2699...
If weight is no problem, there's Alienware M14x, with Quad CPU + nVidia GT555M/Optimus..
Mentioned already...
*
V470 seems nice, but no discrete gpu.. sweat.gif

QUOTE(marcus20125 @ Apr 30 2011, 01:38 PM)
with this budget you definitely cant find any notebook with such specification
*
Just trying my luck.. sweat.gif how about:

Brand:any
Budget: 4k
size:13" to 15" (smaller the better)
spec: i7 quad, light n thin (less than 2.5kg), optimus

Yeap, N43Sn, i7-2630QM + GT550M, apparently the palm rest is not brushed aluminium like that of the N53Sn, which is kinda nice as well~
My friend's N43Sn which arrived yesterday after 2-3 weeks wait:

Ah ha, I'll look into those Asus models. The RM 100 difference is just the display size?
Is Asus a recommended brand for laptop?
All this while I'm having only IBM, Lenovo and Dell laptop. laugh.gif

Why is that Acer so cheap? tongue.gif

Asus U series is slim but powerful.. good for someone who oftenly travel with laptop.. brows.gif
