i7-2620M, 2649M, 2629M ,2657M ,2617M are duo-cored. Quad core models will have a "Q" in the model code e.g. i7-2720QM

i3, i5, and the mentioned duo-cored i7s have 2 cores, 4 threads, hence you'll see 4 slots for the CPU Usage History. Whereas quad-cored i7s have 4 cores, 8 threads, meaning you'll see 8

Oh, just notice this. Just refer to the brownser i took last week, most of the i7 laptop show i7-2630QM, lol. Thanks for correction,

But some also show i7-2630M - quad core...

Because Compaq used to be a laptop manufacturer on their own until HP bought them over... And now it's to distinguish between a lower line and a higher line... Just like designer's brand, all the Prada, YSL etc, they're all under Gucci Group but they still retain their own names lol..

It would definitely be better in gaming, just that between i5 and i7 you won't get much improvement in FPS because gaming mostly depends on GPU... Unless your game is those CPU hungry games like GTA 4..
For gaming purposes, N53SN is pretty much the only choice now with GT550M...

I am looking for a notebook for some internet browsing, amateur photo-editing, watching movies and playing football manager

1. Brand: Toshiba, Fujitsu, Acer, Dell.... is Lenovo or Asus reliable?
2. Budget: <RM2.6k
3. Specs: at least i3 and able to do the tasks mentioned above, preferably weight<2.2kg with good looks:-)
4. Size: 14"

saw a lot of interest here in TimelineX 4830TG, i5-2410M + GT540M@RM2499.. want to ask if Acer's quality has improved? my last Acer notebook 4yrs ago had problem with its screen after a few months of use (despite after service)

Well, this is pretty obvious… These are the models with the best GPU in the market right now. So it’s all down to personal preference on brand. 4830TG came 2nd even though it's cheaper than A43Sv since it comes with integrated battery. Granted it saves some trouble, but we all know heat is the No1 enemy of battery, and gaming = lots of heat produced. Do take note this may change soon as Asus N43 series and Dell XPS 14 are getting updated soon

Curious, i scared they scam the RAMs supplied to me (since it's built-in). How to check if they're all 1333Mhz and DDR3?

hey hey hey.. they took out the original 1, put cheaplak 1, then tell u hav to upgrade to hav better performance.. once u say upgrade.. they earn extra!! this the way they doing business.. some seller in LY practicing.. don say cheap wont scam..

I saw previously someone got the 1066 Mhz paired with his 1333 Mhz.

Then it means he's getting 4GB DDR3 downclocked to 1066 Mhz leh. That's a lot of 4GB sad.gif

Where to get that program to check?

Depends what ur laptop is la.. I5 dual core only supports 1066.. Only i7-quad can support 1333mhz

Yea business & family use. But most likely i can get i3 for 2.2k . Another 200 i get this already oh. Though its abit high end. The pricing is good. Hope im making good choice. this is for my brother. At first wanted to get Apple Mac. So i hope this could be a good match to it

If only for casual gaming there's a cheaper option Acer 4750G i5-2410m + 520M

For 2.35k, there's dell 14R i5+ hd6630m also not bad for gaming..

For 2.4k, there's Asus a43sv similar specs as 4820Tg but battery life less
