(1) I am waiting for the official OS2.3, is there an easier way to upgrade the SL?
(a) Kies - install with errors, so i uninstalled it
(b) Odin - saw snapshots on the net - too technical and looks dangerous
© i tried Software Update using Wifi in Phone setting - "Cannot connet to Server"

so, what is the ideal way?

note: my phone is not rooted and do not intend to do so. now waiting for offical OS 2.3

well, cant help much to comment on the OS but i would advice you to root the device with superoneclick which only took like one click with one minute.
i did not install antivirus and i dont think needed as well, it depend on people.

you can upgrade to 2.3 when samsung release official update. so far, odin is the way with buggy 2.3.

no announcement yet when the release but I expect maybe 3 to 6 month. maybe longer.

nothing dangerous by using odin. as long as you can boot to download mode, then you good to go


bout antivirus, as long as you got common sense, antivirus is just waste of ram and processor

no need app, sl can turn off shutter sound. go to camera setting

Its the media volume. When in camera, pull down the volume using the left side button on the phone.

which firmware do u recommend i try?
cuz i tried DXKE1, in odin, it says "pass" and everything
btw, i flashed pit before flashing the ROM (and ticked re-partition)
but when i tried to boot the phone, it got stuck in bootloop and kept on vibrating...
its not supposed to be vibrating during a correct boot right?
and it should not be more than 5 mins right?

use this firmware I9003DXKB2
before this i got same as you. after i play with gingerbread


the way i fix it is, i use any other firmware, in this case i use this firmware 1st - I9003_XXJL9
install this firmware as usual, your sl will boot fine but got some bug


then, after installing that firmware, you open download mode again, open odin then use the I9003DXKB2-I9003DXKB2-I9003OLBKB2_HOME from I9003DXKB2, put at bootloader section and make sure you uncheck re-partition

done. got working I9003DXKB2
