Mr. Kelvin Tan or any one here,

I posted here before, was asking whether a fresh graduate with 1 yr work exp will make much different compare to a fresh graduate (with no exp) in terms of pay. I didnt have enough reply yet, hence I want to ask again laugh.gif This time I will provide clearer statement here so Kelvin or anyone please suggest nod.gif

I am basically on 12 month student work placement (internship) with Kellogg's Great Britain at the moment, work in Maintenance Department. Job scope is basically very close to the engineers in the department, which include leading projects, assist engineers in projects and planning maintenance strategy and stuff, planning preventative maintenance etc . .

What I would like to know is roughly in what range of pay will I be offered when I come back to my Home country laugh.gif

cs i heard other ppl say which university u graduated from will influence your pay..

and most sg company don't look at Malaysia univeristy cert.
This is y malaysian hard to get a job in singapore..
It this wat happen is the real world???
*
Of course that is a bullshit bro! Dont let that saying affect your confidence! In real world, employer hire people based on how suitable is the candidate to the job! If you can show your skills and share your exp to the employer which can reflect how fit you are in the position, you will definitely be considered and if they cant find any one better matching than you, then it's yours ! icon_rolleyes.gif

Nobody answered you because your question is so vague. 1 year working exprienc as a dumpster vs 1 year experience as an engineer. The pay difference is so huge here.

State the position and industry. Be specific.

Generally fresh grads executive positions in malaysia range from RM1.6k - RM4.5k.

I would nt be asking here if I have an idea about the position and industry. Any way appreciated your comments

Am I right to assume you are still studying?

Anyway, if you are looking for answers, provide sufficient details in order for fellow forumers to help you.

Indeed I am still pursuing my degree. I know there is no solid answers for my questions, was wondering if someone could share the point of views so that I can roughly have a better insight on fresher pay Malaysia.

So far, most thing I heard is still not very convincing . . doh.gif

then I'll cut you a break. Since you do not have working experience yet.

Fresh grads pay can start at 1.6 - 4.5k.

RM1.6k jobs are mostly found out of Selangor/ KL although there are still companies that pay that amount in selangor / kl. Generally degree jobs should pay between 2.2k - 2.8k assuming you are an average performer.

Jobs that pay above 2.8k usually are management trainee programs / jobs that require you to be offshore / or if you are the best and manage to management consultancy firms like McKinsey (USD3k starting pay in malaysia), Boston Consulting, etc.

IT role standard pay (Not designing job) RM2.2k - RM4k
Finance pay is pretty standard. RM2.3k - RM3.3k
Engineering (Not Oil and Gas) RM2.2k - 2.8k
Engineering (Oil and Gas) RM3k - RM7k

All the above is based on degree qualifications. Anybody, please feel free to correct me.

Is my current 12 months workplacement with Kellogg's Great Britain not considered as working experience?

Not sure what is that but the way you mentioned it, it seems like internship? But 12 months is pretty long.
*
Yes that is what you call internship in Malaysia.

then that doesnt count as working experience. It just counts as you have done something extra during ur uni time.

I am so confused right now rclxub.gif

The jobscope I have been doing within this 12 months (in fact it's a year out full time job) includes the engineers responsibility such as leading projects, assist engineers in planning preventative maintenance, designing maintenance strategy, lead some maintenance meeting and currently have been given 1 experienced mechanics and 1 experienced electrician to work for me etc. .Besides that, i am oftenly being sent to join courses that is compulsory for engineers in my company too. Are all this not considered as working experience?? Oh my goodness. . what kind of jobscope would be considered as proper working experience then ?? can anyone explain sad.gif

If u call an internship a job, then everyone has had working experience. I had an internship prior to getting my job.
*
I still cant figure out why situation in Malaysia is so not encouraging sad.gif

Even with the current placement I am doing,it sounded like the experience that I gain from work currently has no difference from a student who is carrying on the degree then blush.gif

doh.gif So the fact is work placement experience is a process of earning pocket money and will not be appreciated / recognised by anyone out there? blush.gif

How about someone here could explain to me how is a so called '' proper working experience'' in an engineering field like?

If you think the 12months that you've spent for this internship is a fruitful experience, just put it into you CV and present yourself during interviews.

You don't need ppl to keep telling you what you need to say or write in your CV.

One of the main qualities that great interviewers in big organization looked for is the confidence of interviewees in believing what they can/could achieve.

Such qualities are the type that's gonna leave a deep impression on the interviewers.

I dont know about you people encouraging youngsters out there.

Myself would nt say things like this to youngsters. Everyone knows the fact working is not easy, but at least letting youngsters begin the career and learn all the way with confidence. Sharing experience to youngsters is fine, but depressing them at 1st before they even have the chance to experience it. . I think that is not quite a right way.

Anyway, that's just my thought, again I do not mean to challenge anyone in here.

No objection, indeed learning from now and be prepared is not a bad move.

So far I can only realised one thing which is when I come back to this country one day , learn and be prepared to face harsh people and harsh environment. Maybe this is the way how people react and speak in this country which I still cant see a point why it must be like this. blush.gif

Anyway cheers for the suggestions and thoughts, appreciated.

Whatever you wanna say, I have said all my saying was purely to understand the working environment in this country, and didnt mean to challenge or show inrespect to anyone. That is just my own disappointment.

I dont see doh.gif this icon is offending anyone, if this icon really does, it should have been removed by mod. Just feel sorry to see this situation and what could be more upset is it all happen like it should be .. lol

Anyway, I am gonna make a stop here just to prevent more people misunderstand.

QUOTE(debbieyss @ Mar 15 2011, 12:19 PM)
Indeed.

I don't know why people like to share it in a harsh tone. Can't it be an active way to coach one another? Why does it must be a harsh tone? I know some people would take advantage of you if you are not firm in your view but this doesn't suit every one.

I admire those "60s" and "70s" people's professionalism, but for sure I will not take them as example to improve my interpersonal skill.

One who can't adapt different communications skills to different people isn't that great in my eyes at all.
Malaysia can't compare to european countries, doesn't mean Malaysia culture is RIGHT.

Don't you think giving someone guidance in an active way would show better impact on him? Active guidance is always look at the strengths and talents one has, there then the person will gain confidence and acknowledgement of themselves. Sad to say, what I have seen here are all about passive comment, which is maximizing the "mistakes" and "weaknesses" one has. You want others to point out your every mistake and not to look at what brilliant jobs you have done? Why always view a life from a passive angle?

thanks for ur comment..

but for my thought, interest cannot be survive nowadays.
i should focus more on my strength with sales background towards higher salary.

thinking of move  to sg work now..hehe biggrin.gif
*
Of course when I said interest does not mean to ask you to give up your current career. What I intended to encourage is to choose which job that you think is more enjoyable, less frustration to you etc..

I know many people out there does not even enjoy a single minute of their work but still they carry on due to 'comfort zone', unwilling to change or some other reasons. To me, it is very hard to perform well in a role if you do not even develop some interest at first.

SG is good i heard, many moves there for better pay nod.gif If you can find a suitable role, why not biggrin.gif
