jfrymdwsz: i am not sure, but it should be under 300, +150 service fee, about 4xx. sometimes they are very nice enough will give 20% discount.

which body and check out the seller background. if the person shoots event often, or does wedding, portrait outing a lot, that easily cover 30k shutter each year. i know i reach 70k now with 2 year 3 month old A300. and i dont shoot that much tongue.gif

for how long it last, it really depend on luck rather then statistic, i dropped my camera once (ouch) in taiwan and broke my hotshoe, but still working, 70k and counting. i hear people passing 100k, and left the camera in storage after getting a new one. but i also seen people who have camera died at under 20k shutter.

usually i think mirror will break before shutter, the plastic holder for the mirror is just plastic, usually it will break before the shutter unit. watch out for abnormal mirror action (extra sound from mirror slap).

8tvt: depends, like me, i never reset/format my card. (unlike some people claim that you have to format your card to prevent card error/crashing, i never once had memcard crash/corrupt) after 9999, a new folder YYYxx1 will be created, YYYxx2/3/4/5 and so on, so the 1,2,3,4,5 will let u know that photo number in 10th of thousand smile.gif

flysheep: few possibility,
i) it will prompt error XX which i have no idea what, because i never seen one.
ii) shutter might still work, but at diff speed then expected, output will be in wrong exposure~!
iii) broke during shutter release, u hear a magnetixc noise, something like SSS, bbeerrzzzzzbzbzbzz wink.gif

ahpingko:mine reach 70k already tongue.gif

---------------------
if shutter break under warranty period, just send in for repair for FOC. but, do not have drop mark, else they will declare as human self inflict damage.

it was claim min 150k or 1 year, which ever expired first. but seldom got ppl pass 50k(average 160 shutter per day) on first year, so usually it expired base on 1 year warranty first. but warranty for shutter will void if u have extended 2 years (alltogether 3 year) and u pass 150k shutter.

i not very sure where it memorize the count?
is it in the camera or depends on the mem card?

if let say..

SD1 counts = 1000
SD2 counts = 2000

if i take out the SD1 and put the SD2 in the camera.. what number would be continued?
and what if put the SD1 back?

Thank you sifu ieR.
Actually when I asked abt SC, I'm not so much concerned abt de shutter unit. Its more of not wanting to end up with a heavily used/worn body else may end up repairing more than shooting. cry.gif

Why you should not worry about shutter count:

ahpingko: Go collect! Dunno lah they haven't been notifying people for a long time already.

d4rkholeang3l: Hooray for your spam!

ieR: Thanks! No not yet 2500 posts.

yuhi: Go to http://www.eiffelchong.com/ - the artist statement and pictures are there.

flysheep: Dunno about symptoms but my A700 mirror retainer broke. It only happens to people who use their cameras extensively. That said if you're using it that much, you gotta be paid - and if you are paid you should be able to finance the shutter unit change.

A700 mirror retainer case:
http://www.alphanatics.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=14372

8tvt: The shutter unit is under RM400 if I remember, but the mirror retainer (if your camera has one) is RM2.

8tvt: yeap, continued, but folder might be messed up thou, what i experience is, i plug in my other sd card, the numbering continue, but it will use the last named folder, and when i plug back my main card, it continue on that last foldered... (tested on SD card/MS camera, my A300 cf never changed card thou)

jfrymdwsz: well, depend which model, usually, if u afraid of high shutter, dont get unit that is more then 2 year old.

albnok:
oh, i tot was 2k lol, okok wink.gif

oho that mean depends on the camera.. camera will memorize the last record..
if like that suppose using some one SD which recorded until folder5 than suddenly the new camera will having more count..
sure hard to estimate after sometimes..

cannot simply switch card la like this (coz i have 2 bodies).. later the numbering sequence will clash..
luckily i'm storing the files depends on the camera.. if by event.. sure having same file name.. problematic to store..

yes, if the camera detect a crashing of number in same folder (say ur camera count is 0345, but the folder has 1234), it will skip that folder and create a new folder.

actually i am more confused with the folder system then the numbering, so it's possible u might skipped folder, but not numbering provided u never format.

even format, i notice the numbering continue (on new body like A580) until u specifically ask it to reset the numbering. (like nikon system, which took me 2 days to find the "reset number" function hidden deep inside function of function of function of function instead of right beside the "format" option. =.=|||)

Want to share with you guys that I bought an Optech Strap (This) for my a580 yesterday since it was very heavy with the BG + a flash.sad.gif Its very very comfy. Although its not so stretchable as those Matin type, yet its more comfy than the Matin type.biggrin.gif I've tried the Capa sling, Matin, Sony Ori, Optech, Marumi Air Cell and many others (except for Crumpler)doh.gif and I find this the best. So those of you who are looking for a strap, dont bother trying the others. Just go get yrself an Optech.thumbup.gif Although I personally prefer the OPTECH USA word to be replaced with a Sony word! whistling.gif
