If ever your N8 failed to boot up (mean pressing the power button but no response), do as follow:
1. Verify is it a SW hang by long press the power button >7.5 seconds to force shutdown the N8. This is for SW hang scenario 2. Plug in the charger and wait for AT LEAST 15 minutes, then try to boot up. This is for depleted battery scenario 3. If you are SURE the battery not depleted and got the DEAD N8, send to NCC for checking as it might be defective hardware related issues.
From experience, the N8 can't be Hard Reset once it's failed to boot up normally or so call "DEAD N8".

3. Go into an enclose place (total darkness needed) wait for a while (to let our eyes get use to the darkness) and view into the phone screen.
4. From what I've observed the phone AMOLED will start to turn off start at "ST BLACK-04.bmp", "ST BLACK-03.bmp", "ST BLACK-02.bmp", "ST BLACK-01.bmp",
"ST BLACK-00.bmp".
5. The screen dark "stains" will sufface as well during these few color cards.
6. Start from "ST BLACK-05.bmp" onward the dark "stains" will be not so visible.
7. All these have to be done in total darkness room as these defective "stains" are not visible at all when the surrounding are bright.
After you seen these result DO NOT simply bash N8 straight away as we're not sure why/how the AMOLED display technology work and how it perform on other

03. Default browser randomly crash and causing an auto soft reboot. (CONFIRMED) - when surfing mostly on those heavy site the browser will crash for no reason (confirm not cause by low resource). - try disable the "Java/ECMA script" might help on some heavy scripted pages.
04. Call Logs missing even set to keep for 30 days. (CONFIRMED) - Logs over flooded by network connection logs. - Logs having limited overall entry although set to keep for 30 days.
05. Screen won't be fully turn OFF after the charging complete popup message. (CONFIRMED) - Plug in the charger and let the phone to charge. - After the charging complete, a message will popup, do not disturb it and let the phone to turn off the screen as usual. - Turn off the surrounding light (a total darkness needed to observe the screen). - When look the screen in total darkness, you can see a grayish screen with some dark spots (dirty stains).
06. Silence Profile together with Power Saving Mode will result in TOTAL silence phone without any vibration alert. 27. Camera Full Shutdown (RAM) - Camera apps will fully shutdown once you close the apps (won't remain in the memory), but the N8 have better camera apps as the total shutdown and without only make ~1Mb ram saving (not like what we see in 5800xm as it's camera apps are memory whore)
28. Fast Screen Rotation - Can feel "a bit" faster but not lighting fast as the delay seem not from the sensor but rather from the UI.
29. FM Transmitter RDS - The FM Transmitter now send RDS "Nokia N8" and not just "Nokia".
30. Video Call FPS Improvement - Slightly change the video call setting fps from original min/norm/max of 5/10/15 to 10/15/20. Not tested as not really use video call.
31. MSG/LOGS/CONT/CLK/CAL Shutdown (RAM) - Disable Messaging, Logs, Contacts, Clock, Calendar Apps from staying in the background after you exit them.
32. Database Max Record Count - Experimental mod, Increase database from 20 to 50.

Please follow below steps to get the 6 home screen mods into your beloved N8/E7/C7/C6-01 (All S^3 devices):
01. Download the attached file 200159c0.zip, extract the folder into your PC (keep all the subfolders info intact). 02. Backup your phone contents for emergency use if anything go wrong. 03. Connect the Nokia N8 to the computer through USB MASS STORAGE Mode (very important). 04. From the computer, go to E:\Private\200159c0 folder in your phone (create it if it's not there). 05. Copy all those EXTRACTED files (both "import" & "install" subfolders) from your PC into phone E:\Private\200159c0 folder (replace/overwrite all existing files). 06. Properly disconnect your phone. 07. Wait for 1 minute. 08. Change your phone profile to OFFLINE Mode. 09. Now on your phone, go to Menu> Settings> Phone> Phone mgmt. > Factory Settings > Restore
After the phone will auto reboot, you lose all your settings (location of widgets, icons arrangement). All applications and files will still keep intact (photos, videos, music, messages, contacts).
For users who used my S^3 Multiple Mods V6.00, you will need to reinstall the mods then reboot your phone after the factory setting restoration!!!
Who ever facing Ovi Store, Social Apps and Nokia Battery Monitor issue due to QT issues either after Hard Reset or after some mess up QT installations... please follow below instructions to Restore the QT apps:
1. Install qtdowngrade.sis to C:/Phone Memory (Important to install to correct drive!)
skipped steps 2 & 3 if you can't find the "QtExamples" folder to be delete 2. Go to application grid and select Options -> Organise. 3. Long-press on QtExamples folder and select Delete.
4. Go to Settings -> Application manager -> Installed apps 5. Long-press on qtdowngrade from the list and select Uninstall 6. Reboot
1. Uninstall both "Social" & "Social Installer" from the default Apps Manager. 2. Reboot the phone. 3. Download "Social Apps.zip". 4. Extract the zip and transfer the .wgz & .sisx to the phone (using file manager). 5. FIRST!! Install "Sosial Mixer v1.02.144.wgz" into E:\ drive then 6. Install "Social Networks v1.03.143.sisx" (wait until the Widget installation popup done!!)

Not many developers would waste their resources to port games to the dying symbian just so they could sell it there for another couple of years. Not worth it. I bet whatever they are gng to sell for symbian in ovi store now is already a work in progress before Nokia decided to shag Microsoft. They won't make a fresh decision to develop for symbian anymore. imho lah.

They should be more prudent and efficient in firmware updating and support compare to Apple. For example you go to any apple store or Service Centre, u can many things there but when u go Nokia Retail Shop or Service Centre, u have to wait , mainly parts not available and need to be order.. I had a fren who is Ip 4 recently, he had some issues on his set soon after he brought via Digi, they sent to service and got replacement part almost two days..

As I said, Nokia have abundant of product lines (Nokia 12xx 'till Nokia E7) while Apple only got one for their phone which is iPhone. Of course you can't expect all of the parts of Nokia phone to be ready in time Besides, both have different approaches towards their target market.

The point is here, a lot of people feel Nokia is not giving anywhere near their best to serve customers, be it on updates or customer service etc. They think they are too big that they can just ignore us customers. So they shouldnt be allowed to get a free ride on that.

Well, customer is always right, be it in any kinda market I do agree, most are getting fed up with not receiving the updates yet on PR 1.1 ; which includes me on the list

Yeh. Actually used to until December. But in my heart, n8 is still my favorite phone.sigh. Hopefully they keep the camera performance in the new Windows phones. When is that gonna be? 2012? 2013? There is no way that they will be able to release one at the end of this year right?

i'm quite sure i don't use wifi to detect. if my bro ( using 3gs ) and me are in the same place. his 4sq app can detect the location much much faster than mine. but the gps for 3gs takes forever to lock as compared to my n8 with ovi maps

Get a codec checker. I too have a few MKV that dont play on C7.
Wondering if its the same problem encountered by those using Realtek based chipset media player regarding MKV compressed header.

after getting the cert and key from "the page".. already sign the sys, instlling then error "unable to install a protected software from untrusted supplier"..

weird. Mine doesn't even scan more than 10 seconds before.
Finally able to install Chan's mod this morning, Yeah~!! 1 question here, after I choose option 6 for the photo and video compression, how come the photo I can took reduce from 7k+ down to 1k+?? I'm pretty sure it's not cause by save location cause no way 160+mb can contain 1k+ photo. So, is it cause by the compression rate? anyone care to provide me some hint here?

it's normal as all those mods are come with proper estimation size mods as well where when u use 100 quality mods the photo size will increase ~7 times so your estimated left over balance from your storage should decrease by ~7 times (from original ~2mb per photo to ~12mb per photo)...
