Hi guys, I do plan to apply terracotta tile on my patio area and outdoor area. Do you guys have any experience on terracotta tile? The pro & con for this tile? Where I can find this tile? I only saw this tile from GNG TILE.

Anyone here has used the large format tiles from Marmo Grande from Jubin BMS?

The tiles look very nice but are quite expensive.

Also Jubin BMS also sells tiles from Thailand, called Cotto tiles. Any experience with those tiles in terms of quality?

TIA.

Tiles will not crack unless some heavy object hit it.

Workmanship also plays part...
Not tiles only.... For long lasting...

Whatever...
As long no hard object hit / pressure...
Should be okay 👍

Does anyone have recommendation for tilers in Klang Valley / PJ area?

Am doing a sub-sale home reno currently but having an issue with the main con (supposedly a reputable ID company) regarding the tiling works.
Their standard height for waterproofing at SHOWER area is 1 ft.
Their reasoning is that their tilers informed that if do 6ft waterproofing, the wall tiles may not stick so well and there's risk of hollow/popping tiles. Is this true?

Have tried discussing and trying to come to a resolution and I've suggested either :
1/ continue with their standard 1 ft water proofing but extend the general 1 yr warranty to 3 years warranty for water proofing (that's not too demanding, is it? I understand that most would provide >=5 yrs warranty on waterproofing
2/ do 6ft waterproofing and the general warranty for tiles hollow/popping remains at 1 year

They did not agree to either. If their 1ft water proofing has not been an issue, I don't see why they cant just provide me a 3 year warranty.
For the 6ft waterproofing option, they refuse to provide the 1 yr warranty on any SHOWER tiles that is hollow/popping.

Sorry. Can't help you here but it reminds me of a time when contractor also wanted to waterproof a section of my wall for around 1 ft also. Really don't understand logic. Am curious to know whether other contractors can accommodate to your request. All the best.

What kind of rubbish contractor is that I will put it down to the fact that they are trying to save cost.. thank god I have found a very experienced tiler with excellent workmanship who is willing to do water proofing for me for free. I provided the material and he did however high or thick I wanted it to be :-)

A foot water proofing from floor is pretty standard. The wall normally exposed to splashing water. The water will flows directly to floor. The tile is water is water proof and the grouting is also waterproof.

Why contractor will not put long warranty? Normally after a year or two, the wall get cracked due to building foundation sink. When this happened, water will pass through the crack and cause dispute.

Tile popping or not I think has nothing to to with water proofing. Well, they have their own experience and maybe they have reason for it. Maybe the material they used. My bathroom I added 3 more rows of tile just with just chipping around 1mm hole here and there only still fine after more than 10 years. The cement mix with tile glue stick onto even painted wall just fine. So, the technology that existed > 10 years ago has no problem smile.gif

Hi guys, got quoted 78/pcs or 156/ CTN for 1200 * 600 glazed polished porcelain tiles from white horse. May I know what is the usual pricing?

Does it means if the piece is bigger, but total area is still the same its still more expensive?

Price depends on design and brand. Ferruni will be about 80/piece 2x4', Niro sligtly more. But can also wait for sales, usually discount 20-30%.
Recent homedec also had a good deal from Lorenza Ceramica. 2x4" for 30-50/piece. But quality unknown for this brand. But the shop also carry lotsa mapei products.

1 piece of 2x4 is more expensive than 2 pieces 2x2. Installation charges also higher.

Hi sifus, anyone can share the cost of installing 600mm x 1200mm (2ft x 4ft) and 750mm x 1500mm (2.5ft x 5ft) tiles on wall? Encluding tile cost the tiles already bought from Feruni. Just purely want to know market rate for Labour and material for installing this kind of large format tiles

For walls, this is expensive and not many tilers willing to do. Dont expect them to give you psf price. You can just ask your ferruni for tiler contact. I would advise getting experienced chinese tilers. You wont want these expensive tiles to fall off after a few years. And use at least C2TE or better glue.

If for bathroom of 50sf and 9' walls, labour (exclude hacking old tiles) + screeding (waterproofing not included) + material (exclude tiles) will be about +/-RM5K(lumpsum).

"market rate" nowadays has quite a widerange, depending on location also. For KL,

Chinese only tilers ate top end, known for good quality work and wont use cheap glue. Tiles straight, gap even, installed flat, substrate mixed well and covered 100% of backside. Willing to do 45degree mitered edge. Bring their own material, equiptment. For basic 2x2 tiles for floor, expect rm8/sf up.

Cheapest is get those banglas/Indons to kerja Kong. Day rate about rm120/pax nowadays. You need to buy all material, equiptment, arrange delivery and monitor process yourself. The use whatever material you supply. Can work slow, as its day rate. Workmanship depends on experience level. And prone to fly off next day if they get other jobs, leaving your unfinished job hanging.

In between are all mixtures of chinese supervisor with foreign labourers or foreign labourers only specialised in tiling (eg some pakistani) or others.

Floor tiling labour w/o tiles 20' x 5' RM 1200
Wall tiling labour w/o tiles 50' x 10' RM 5000

if by reading the previous postings, seems on the high side?

thanks
