got this tiling quote from my contractor, for a wet kitchen extension. would like to know if it's reasonable?

Floor tiling labour w/o tiles  20' x 5' RM 1200
Wall tiling labour w/o tiles  50' x 10' RM 5000

if by reading the previous postings, seems on the high side?

thanks

I have no idea on current rate but I'd say it is definitely expensive if it is just for tiling job shakehead.gif

If for bathroom of 50sf and 9' walls, labour (exclude hacking old tiles) + screeding (waterproofing not included) + material (exclude tiles) will be about +/-RM5K(lumpsum).

Hi all

Saw the above posts in previous pages, and my first time posting in this thread.

So I want to re-do an existing room

Floor 3m x 2.4m
Wall 2.5m height

I found a super good contractor and I like his work so far. Not cincai and very neat/tidy.

RM3500-3800 a good/fair price for all-in ?

- Some minor floor hacking required (Basically just carpet over concrete now)
- Painting walls
- Plaster ceiling
- Screeding
- Tiles provided (not China ones according to my contractor)
- Re-do any necessary wiring and install downlights ( I buy this my own )

Dear all sifu, what can be done on the below to cover the tiles edges and prevent water from water sipping? I do not intend to do retiling.

Use silicone sealant.

Remove as much possible the grout cement b4 injecting the silicone

Another method is using tile transparent protecting ccrylic coating.

Wall with waterproofing without tiles 272 x RM35 = 9520
Floor with waterproofing without tiles 58 x RM25 = 1450

Mine is worse

Is nice to havd a seamless piece.

But for tiles ......

Pro

1. Cheap
2. Can replace individual piece, if cracked

Cons ...

1 Cleaning the grout
2. Poor workmanship can csuse tiles to dislodge.

yeah i know,
and also please have a GGOOOOOOD conversation bout the height of kichen top!!
the reno guy misunderstanding the height difference between kitchen basin and the cooktop place, (initially the height we discussed was before shifting the basin and the cooktop ) and after we changed our mind cause we have to redo the kitchen top due to cracking , the guys didint shift both place , and basin and cooktop ended up to a similar height , more suck! bangwall.gif

we were tight on budget mah after spending house reno and termite thingy, in the first place we never thinking of changing the tile, because the reno guys crack the kitchen top during small reno, thats why la ,
but then, after placing all the cookware and essentials, it wouldnt be that ugly anymore.
even it is ugly but i will make sure it is always clean and clear, problem solved biggrin.gif

What is the recommended tiles for backsplash in cooker/hob area? Porcelain, Ceramic, Homogeneous? Gloss finish I suppose for easy cleaning. Large size - 2ft x 2ft or bigger to minimize grout lines compared to small size?
