QUOTE(bubs66 @ Jun 17 2019, 05:52 PM) I was quoted RM 1K all in , mid range tiles to do the yard ( 270 cm length x 117 cm width). Is this reasonable price? I have gotten a similar quote. I had asked the contractor for an estimate.Cement screed flooring vs tiles floor (10ft by 5ft) (a) Tiles Floor It does not include hacking/ cement screed Tiler (currently tiling the kitchen) approximately RM600 Materials (contractor buy) RM100-200 Tiles (I buy) 1ft by 1ft Grade A Porcelain RM2.50 per square feet = 50 X RM2.50 +10% wastage= RM137.5 Total= RM900-1K If he hires a different tiler it will be cheaper. (b) Cement screed flooring Need to smoothen it cz the current cement screed is too rough and also to do a slight slope for rainwater to flow into the drain Contractor's own workers and provides materials. Total=RM200-300 In my case, tiles floor is 3X more expensive than a plain cement screed floor. |

QUOTE(chayjeong @ Jun 23 2019, 02:10 PM) Since tiles are generally big and heavy in size, what's the estimate shipping cost for house that is 20' X 70'? I was thinking importing Tiles from China, but I am afraid the sea freight cost will be very high. China tile whilst cheap, many contractors said has poor quality. THe problem is most significant big tiles, The coplanarity is poor. They found that big tiles tend to bend and youj know what will happen to your floor. |

For a 1200MMx1200MM tile, the cost to ship it will be around RM3.80 per piece. For a 600MMx600MM tile, the cost is around RM1.20 per piece. Expect around 10-20% wastage from shipping alone. My advice? Unless the tile you are looking for is a specialist tile or one that is of a very high quality (and yes they do have some very top notch high quality ones and they don't come cheap), you will be better off buying tiles locally. Also I won't be buying it online, will be in China and will personally hand pick those tiles. |

I am in the midst of planning my home renovation and one contractor suggested using bathroom floor coating instead of hacking and reinstalling the bathroom floor tiles. My main concern is that the new waterproofing will not be good and will causing water leakage.
If I go with the bathroom floor coating, is it good? At least I can save a lot on the labour work and tiles and I won't worry about waterproofing. This is the example I saw from Lazada. https://www.lazada.com.my/products/mr-coat-...s760550722.html |

tiles cost is very simple and should never perceived as cheap.
tile itself is on owner. usually contractor ask for 10% quantity to account for defect and waste. workmanship+consumable, per piece installed: 1x1 RM5 1x2 RM 10 2x2 RM 15-18 if you go lower than this you trade off quality. Less than RM5000 transaction is usually offered in lump sum instead of breakdown above. |
