the newest MBP2011 can easily change RAM? isnt there a security star screw lock?
*
Just lotsa normal Philips screws. Instructions to change the ram and the HD is included in the manual that comes with the MBP.

Waw.. now days ram getting cheaper  rclxms.gif
What ram are those which not more than RM 250? izit compatible with mac?
*
you guys wanna know why apple charges you more expensive for Rams?
actually all rams are compatible.
the difference between Apple Certified Rams and those rams you get from Lowyat is the Grade.
i'm sure apple is using first grade rams.
with different clocking speed and higher efficiency.
what you get from apple isn't the same from those you can buy in lowyat.
this statement was told by a technician from machines.
even if you ask resellers to upgrade your ram after purchase, it wouldn't be the first grade ones i mentioned.
it has to be done when you place your order for your new MBP.

^ uh.... 1333mhz RAMs are 1333mhz full stop. is that what you're referring to by 'clocking speeds'?

im pretty sure apple uses the exact same stuff 3rd party RAM uses, at least certain brands. IINM they do use Micron chips, same as OWC. there are other chips as well, but never Hynix, which is kingston's

apple uses fujitsu n hitachi hard drives as well. are you going to say these drives are better than what you can get from normal PC shops because apple charge more?

Seems grounding problem to me. Do you use the 3-pin long cable to the PS block or the short 3-pin adapter connected directly to the PS block?

This one doesn't have ground connected:

@BRY7: That is what most (if not all) Apple-certified Technicians will tell you. If you don't buy Apple Certified Hardware, they (Apple) wouldn't get a cut of your purchase. Furthermore, there is NO difference between clockspeeds. If it's 1333MHz, that's all. There wouldn't be a difference whether or not it's Apple or 3rd-party.
Just my 2 cents mate.

Classic case of FUD.

The only reason that Apple charges what they charge for RAM is to maintain their 30%+ operating margin.

If Apple uses the best and charges a premium and we know we pay for what we get, why on earth are we finding 5400rpm drives in our top-of-the-line MBPs? Answer is bcos they're cheap.

Just get the RAM recommended by Apple as specified in their printed manual. It's in your MBP box.

You mean locally? Haven't seen it around.

Anyone here shops at play-asia.com? Here's a coupon for USD5 off for orders above USD50: MT-IGI-QQY Expires 25 Apr, I think.

Hi guys,

I'm considering getting a MacBook, it's either Air or Pro. I am thinking of getting the 11" 128GB full spec (RM 4,356.00) as well as 13" 128GB full spec (RM 4,329.00), both around the same price, also considering MacBook Pro 13" 2.7 GHz default spec (RM 4,599.00) which slightly expensive a bit.

May I know which one is worth to get? My usage would be mostly casual use, not playing game, and portability is in the consideration.

Will the 11" too small for me? Or 13" is good to go? Should I get Pro instead? Will the Air too slow for me?

By the way, I would like to know if there is any way to save some cost for buying a MacBook, as I see from previous post that I can just upgrade the RAM my self, saving a lot of cost here. Other than that, what else I can do to save cost?

Thank you very much for kind suggestions.

Get the air if you want portability. you'll benefit from the air's flash drive but if u are running intensive task, you'll feel the effect.

Get the pro if you want a powerful machine (with new SB processors)

As for the rams, you may want to upgrade it yourself later cos its cheaper to buy not from apple (for mbp only. as for air, its not upgradeable as all its components are soldered to the motherboard)

If this is still happening, try another outlet .. if that doesn't solve the problem, you should get a new replacement.. do not try to pray open anything, not even the fuse in the plug.. somehow, I was told by Apple support, by doing so, I could void the warranty.

11" or 13" i think no one can decide for you. visit an apple reseller and play with both models yourself. it's really ur own preference. just note that the 11" doesnt have an SD card slot

i dont think the 2.7 ghz MBP is a good choice, the 2.3 Ghz is already pretty fast. IMO, the RM900 difference is better spent on AppleCare Protection Plan

about being "too slow"...well u didnt provide much detail on what u're doing, but assuming by "casual use" u mean surfing, watching videos, light photo editing, then the Air (even the 1.4 Ghz) handles that no problem. we used to live in a day where the 'low end' computer cant do much. not anymore smile.gif

bottom line, since u probably dont need a fast processor, decide between the 11" 1.4Ghz 128GB Air or 13" 1.86Ghz 128GB Air. no need to upgrade anything except for the RAM.

Only can speak for myself. I was using a 13" MacBook for more than a year and 15" MBP for a few months and found the screen size too small. Now settle on a 15" MBP with HiRes screen. Quite happy with that.

What happens exactly? You can pair the iphone remote with itunes on your new MBP? After that, you mean you can only control it once?

Now, what happens when you open the Remote app on the iphone? Does it look for the MBP library and can't find it? Have u tried to delete and redo pairing with the MBP?

By any chance do you have VMWare Fusion installed on the MBP?

I had the same prob a few weeks ago. In my case it was the extra Network interfaces that VMWare created that somehow interfered with the Remote app. I disabled the VMWare's network interfaces in System Prefs and the problem was gone.

Have u tried to delete the pairing in the Remote app? Also "Forget all remotes" in iTunes prefs. Does the iPhone remote appear in your iTunes sidebar after that? Can you redo the pairing?
