I think you can also use skype to call landline/hp.But you may have to pay for that service.
Try checking TMO for further info.I don't really know this part.

Regarding replacement for N900 (in my case additional phone) I've yet to find decent qwerty based smartphone.
In terms of build quality Nokia E7 is certainly excellent but the OS & hardware spec....

I wish HTC will announce some sort of successor for Desire Z soon.

how's FF4 with N900?

When will N900 get integrated mms update...haih!
*
IMHO there is no need for integrated MMS for Maemo 5.fMMS does the job perfectly.

anyone tried using firefox 4?

got some word format issue,  I got some article in GBK format, but N900 can only read UTF8 (notepad or document to go), anyone know an alternative way to make it understand GBK format?
*
Seldom use FF4 because of the loading time
Tried searching TMO?

my n900 finish battery very fast la sad.gif

full charge morning & by 6 will finish....my frimware is latest, bluetooth turned off & wifi scanning also off.

any other tips? do they sell bigger capacity battery for n900?  hmm.gif
*
Well, mine last for 1 days with light gaming, calls, sms, playing mp3 & light surfing. With very light use(only phone calls & sms) mine will last 3 days easily. And that's without OC.Mine is also AP set.
Do you use WiFi/3G a lot in that period?

QUOTE(mashimarow @ Apr 5 2011, 10:14 PM)
FMMS charge you the MMS charges plus the data download unsure.gif

I use dataplan, so no problem for me whistling.gif

hush! no one knows what program can read GBK format text? words to go not readable, even notepad too.
*
That's the only drawback from fMMS.But not a issue for unlimited data plan subscriber.Especially for DiGi subscriber brows.gif

i had just flashed my n900 to firmware 3.2010.02.8, everything works fine except my fon is now being SIM locked. Also when pressing *#06# my imei number is empty. hellllppppppp!!!

Added on April 6, 2011, 2:53 amhi again... im sleepless now... hope sombody can help... i've tried using dead usb by phoenix, it shows the flashing failed regardless of any image that i use.

then i tried flasher3.5, nothing happened. plzz helppp
*
Use the FP method to reflashing againUse Manual Flashing B.

Doubt the Pheonix software will work with Maemo device.

QUOTE(xphonerz @ Apr 6 2011, 09:17 AM)
Just change your Bluetooth name, it will change your device name in file manager as well  icon_rolleyes.gif

just wondering.. worst come to worst... if i wrongly run a destructive cmd or running unstable apps... or toying with root or kernel etc, what will happened? will the phone simply brick? can it be recovered by flashing back the firmware?
*
You can fix messed up kernel aka reboot loop with simple kernel only flash. This won't delete any apps.
If this doesn't work then a full flashing is required. You'll need to reinstall every apps again.

PS:To those who pm-ed me to add their name to FP,I'll do so this Monday.Been extremely busy this sem.

You can use apt-get to refresh repo but never use this to update CSSU.Sometimes it'll mess up some packages.Use App Manager or FAPMan.

Specs wise, the SGS2 fo' sho'. I still have issues with the green robot (and I'm too far into the Fruitland ecosystem) so I'm prolly gonna continue living the iFag life for now.

Until something better comes along lol.
*
Expect games to be launched to Green Robot 1st in future. Most of the devs turning to Green Robot now.Google even managed to capture some Maemo/MeeGo nerds when Nokia committed suicide.

just now i have tried to uninstall preenv and reinstall it back.... i think i do hv the latest ver, how to confirm anyway??

apart from that, my other WebOS games works nicely, except for angrybirds rio.

any other suggestion that i can try?
*
deb version do have some issue. You can try installing with the dirty method aka extracting ipk file manually.

QUOTE(Eiraku @ Apr 14 2011, 02:23 AM)
Well, battery life is a touchy subject with the N900. Under heavy use, my old N900 lasted like 3-4 hours while underclocked with the 2nd lowest brightness settings. And by heavy here I mean 10 MicroB windows open constantly.

That was on PR1.2 BTW, things SHOULD be slightly better with the latest CSU. Although not by much I think.

Anyhow, thanks to that history of mine with the N900, I found a new way to keep myself entertained with the TelefonSaya 4. LaunchDeamon editing. It's comparable to editing Init.D on the N900. Bless our common *nix lineage.

It's fun, and might potentially brick your device. Sounds like just the thing for an extras-devel junkie like me. A shame though it's far harder to restore a TelefonSaya compared to the effortless restore of the N900.

Next up, editing the shared.artwork file manually, so I can theme the whole UI without WinterBoard. Yes, this can brick the phone too lol. Oh what fun.
*
With PR1.3 + heavy modification like mine maybe you can squeeze out 1 extra hour compared to your PR 1.2 N900.

Hardcore modification of Telefon Saya is real b*tch. To much restriction.People prefer winterboard because it's GUI based modification tool. But you won't be able to change too much things in OSsaya.

OSsaya is really boooring in term of functionality & eye candy.I think even MeeGo(tablet version) demoed few days ago is way better looking.

QUOTE(mashimarow @ Apr 14 2011, 11:51 AM)
just have to check on TMO cause I curious also how to check version I installed, there is the command

dpkg -l|grep XXX

XXX is the package name such as preenv, it will find out and tell you what version you installed

no idea about your bird, maybe find the file from another source, might be corrupted
*
All angry birds version are 1.0.0
Next month should have new version with new levels.

Type dpkg --help in terminal (with root access) to list down all package management command.

@retro_rave
I'll reply your pm tonight.I might need to write slightly longer than usual pm for you laugh.gif
But for now I'll say if you want to learn about maemo you can start learning basic debian/maemo terminal codes for fun.
PS:Sorry for the late reply. Was banned for 1 day.

This is the MeeGo tablet version.Sleek isn't it?

Also I really wish Nokia will stop play around Maemo/MeeGo.If you plan to use the crappy WP7 then go ahead & use that particular OS only.
I don't understand why they still want to release Maemo 6 device anymore. It's a real pain to see another half-baked Maemo device.

@TimothyTham
I think frontpage got the guide.

WinSCP is program that will enable you to establish wireless connection connecting your computer to your phone.

Maybe Nokia get the 'threaten letter' from some one..that's why they keep trying to release the Maemo 6...lol
*
You need to download MidoFayed's keyboard mapping separately.

I'll be happy if Nokia released full source code for Maemo 6.

Sifu, at ur level of 'sifu-ness',
I think, U can easily mod / tweak every OS in this world..huhu
*
Each person(especially advanced users) have their own preference on how their OS should work & appear.
Give it some time & dedication & anyone can mod their preferred. This is where having open source OS comes as advantage. You don't have to care much about legal stuff.

My principle always been performance > eye candy
That's why my phone look very dull but have a very fluid performance even though I'm running at 600MHz only.
And yes,600MHz is enough to run games like Asphalt5 without lagging.

haha... ok confirmed i have the 0.1.7 preenv installed and reinstalled. downloaded and installed again the bird file, but its the same.

the icon is there, but when launched, it still do the same thing, open a window than closed automatically.

super_evil_alien, noted with thanks bro!
*
Tried webOS games installer from App Manager? You'll need Angry Birds Rio's ipk file.

I do think that the deb packaging for Angry Birds Rio have some issue.I had the same crashing issue when I tested the deb file yesterday. After a while I gave up & went to to my ipk type of installation.

Nope. There are few of us here running heavily modified Maemo 5 on N900.The better your tweak your OS the better your battery life will become.

Anyway do try changing to another battery. But always go for Nokia's original 1320mA battery. Most of the 3rd party battery don't have the exact current charge as they advertised.

Do 2 of the following:
1)Re-download the 2 files from maemo tablet site.Copy the files to the exact location that the flasher tool showing you ->C:\Program Files\maemo\flasher-3.5
Rename RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin to R.bin
2)Open Devices & Printers in Control Panel.Check whether you N900 is in update mode.

Try executing the flashing code again.
If I'm not mistaken the %m represent that the particular flashing file is missing.
