"That being said, as we achieve our first priority of beating Android, we'll be competing within the Windows Phone ecosystem, and that's fair.

Stefan Elop @ MWC 2011

Beating Android?
Let me say this in running competition point of view:
Let's say we are in 100 meters race,Android is already at around 75m but Mircosoft still lagging at 20m.Android have much much more polished software.Googles Mapping solution isn't all that bad compared to Nokia Map also.
Also Google have much more innovative engineers working on Android. Not to mention there are also Maemo/MeeGo users who Nokia pissed and majority of them already preparing to jump to Android & start contributing for Android for FREE.

Never underestimate Open Source Community.

#No product release from Nokia @MWC
I expect Aava Mobile & Intel to release 1st MeeGo Handset

Good luck to Nokia.I really believe that Sony Ericsson will join Samsung as Android keep eating Nokia's dominance this year.
XPeria Play looks really great. The platform is good, device is ready, games are ready,Sony have the the proper method of delivering software/game for playstation based Xperia & seems like quite a number developers already in with the project.Excellent strategy.
Sadly no proper QWERTY from SE.SE XPeria Neo disappointed me.

Assuming that SE still using core Android 2.3 & follow it's API,I think PS Play games can be ported to other Android 2.3 device?
I think we can use some sort of gamepad(like the 1 available for N900) to emulate XPeria Play's gamepad.
Exiting stuff...

P/S:Expect iPhone's dominance on the the mobile gaming market to be hit.. brows.gif

QUOTE(mashimarow @ Feb 14 2011, 07:35 AM)
pardon me for intruding everyone mood in Nokia event but I wish to express that isn't we choose N900 due to it's open design and function over than it is from NOKIA, I believe everyone here is not a fruit fanatic, and so we shouldn't be a NOKIA fanatic also.

What Nokia choose their path is their decision, we are the end-user and we choose what phone suites to us.  Believe me that when I decide to purchase a new phone, I am torn between N900 and Desire Z, but I choose N900 due to it's open concept and functions, not because it is Nokia

So, I hope everyone please drop off the mood and cheer up, N900 not quite dead yet, it is still being supported for the time being, and everyone should remember that you can't use the phone for eternity, sooner or later N900 will die like any phone, so is the support.

Now...anyone use AMSN before tongue.gif

p.s. if I hurt anyone, please accept my apology notworthy.gif
*
Let me make something very clear,I'm not replacing my N900.I'm just looking for another up-to-date workhorse phone.

err...
sifus....
what the diff between android n maemo?
both is open source right?
*
Basic difference:
Maemo : Written with C & C++
Android : Written with C,C++ & Java

Maemo is more like mobile version of desktop debian(linux OS) while Android is a real mobile focused OS.

http://appdeveloper.intel.com/en-us/blog/2...-12-alpha-exopc

Looking good.
But I'll still rate webOS based HP Slate as better 1.

Added on February 14, 2011, 8:27 pmIntel talks Medfield: will ship in a phone and have the longest usage time

Intel hit the jackpot!
Provided they really beat ARM's power consumption, some of the manufacturers will start yo adopt Atom SOC.

Active usage up to 3 times than "regular" device...That's almost 20+ hours full blown browsing & stuff.

suddenly got a wild thought, if we can link to wifi network, connect to LAN, is it possible to send document to network printer for printing tongue.gif

Do try easy debian. The installing part may be a bit messy but it'll very2 helpful with extra functions.

QUOTE(untouchable @ Feb 15 2011, 09:29 PM)
Is there hope for n900 using myriad alien dalvik?

Its practically an emulator to run android apps....

google it seems like opening doors for n900
*
The dalvik haven't been fully released.
Of course if Myriad release it people can expect Android apps in Maemo within 1 hour.

Yeah,I'm serious sh*t on the 1 hour part.Maemo nerds is really fast in delivering stuff providing they have all the "tools".
Example case is when MuhammadAG suggesting the app to desaturate instead or bluring while multitasking. It was delivered in few hours.

Added on February 15, 2011, 10:14 pmsomehow Android seems underpowered and clunky for such powerful devices.

Added on February 15, 2011, 10:20 pmi just hope microsoft plays nice with nokia and really allows the platform to grow.

and lets hope the web browser is not going to be only IE9 mobile...
*
Ah well...We can only dream of it.Nokia is hell bend on not releasing Maemo's full code.

Also,Steve Balmer can use whatever fancy words or videos to show off IE9(WP7 version) capability but it's remains as crappy browser.Let's leave flash aside, what kind of dumb@$$ manufacturer don't include their own plugin stuff in their own browser?IE9 won't have Silverlight support also doh.gif

The best platform for me would be Maemo/Meego with better power management and a healthier software ecosystem, but Nokia (may God's wrath be upon them) just peed and shat on and buried that dream deep in the ground.

Sometimes I wonder why these OS owners don't bother to make their Application sites open worldwide. It's kinda pointless & unfair for them to concentrate on certain market 1st.

OVI Store seems ok but not much great apps compared to iOS.

Agreed on the too many rubbish apps in epal's kedai.

I don't know whether God even care about Nokia but the stockmarket sure don't.Nokia's share keep going down like car with a loose brake.

Better just PM them. This is what I did the last time I did bulking.

All the major OEM's already unveiled their cards in MWC but for me there is no suitable phone for me sad.gif
Back to waiting game...
Come on guys...It is really hard to make a qwerty based smartphone?

To reduce time to market, all MeeGo R&D will be done in-house and in a single geographical location. If necessary, suspend cooperation with Intel and concentrate resources on innovation and releasing new Nokia MeeGo devices to market faster.

Oh wow..These guys really got extra set of balls...

QUOTE(goldfries @ Feb 16 2011, 10:48 AM)
shitty man, my mini usb thingy on the device broke! sad.gif you guys face this before?

wondering if it can be repaired.

worst. thing for me now is i'm travelling, still no idea whether it can be charged cos last i try usb from notebook show no signs of charging.

fortunately i still have 60% batt life left. disable 3g and running on low brightness.
*
blink.gif This was common problem with the pre production models. After the feedback initial testing by the software developers, the microUSB port was strengthened. This significantly reduced the issue.

You can fix it yourself by re-soldering the connectors by yourself.Pretty simply actually.
Or you you can send to NCC & they'll do it for you but I heard the charge is quite high.If AP set it's worse, some AP company will send the device back to US for repair even though the repair method is fairly simple.

Cellphones Nokia shareholders and unions fight back against Microkia

And the plot thickens...
Man...This could make a popcorn worthy movie... laugh.gif

But really, any decision that cause 25% drop in share price deserve a revision.

So there are several plan for Nokia:
Plan A: Continue partnership with Microsoft
Plan B:Make MeeGo primary OS & continue Symbian as low end OS
Plan C:Return to Nokia's initial business,selling tires(Somebody really did suggested this laugh.gif)

Yea, everything is good except... no physical keyboard!
LG Optimus 3D looks great too, can view 3D without 3D glasses! Can see the demo on YouTube, pretty cool~

There's one alternative option tough... SONY Xperia Pro... but the spec is just so-so, and the Xperia Play looks much more tempting but no physical keyboard  cry.gif

Waiting for Moto.....
*
Moto tarak qwerty also.Already checked all leaked upcoming phones.
There is Droid 2 but single core processor sad.gif

Guys, the 3G/2G selection mode applet on N900, if I choose 3G or dual, will this 3G be considered as the data packets (correct ah?) and charged by Maxis?
My bill showed data usage, a LOT!

I didn't use it for web browsing though hmm.gif This must be the noobest question of the day sweat.gif
*
Remember there is 3 possible data setting with N900.
2G - GPRS
2.5G - EDGE
3G - Well...It's 3G

Even if you limit you device to 2G,it can still connect to internet with GPRS.
Another thing did you receive any MMS with fMMS?Because fMMS charge you per data & not per MMS.

The battery consumption is the killjoy part of the CSSU for now.
Currently I'm using the modified hildon desktop & some patched application file to enable autorotation.Gives roughly the same effect but without the heavy battery consumption.

Yeah.Something like what the CTRL + SHIFT + R do.
Forgot the exact location where I got it.I think it's from MuhammadAG repo.I'll try to upload tomorrow(bad connection in my home)
And no,it's not from CSSU.It's standalone deb files. What CSSU does is pretty much send these third party updates & combined it together as bulk & makes it as a group update.I just take some of it.

Oh? cause as far as i know... like I don't recall having any deb file that FORCES rotation on every app... many of MAG's patches allows rotation of things like status menu and modest but i've never seen one that forces rotation without pressing ctrl shift r... all must be manually toggled

thanks! if you can share it here! I'll gladly try it out

Only some application rotate automatically. Not all.

do we have skype for maemo ? cant find on ovi store nor maemo.org lol

Edit:Google helps but I thought skype is free for us to use sad.gif
*
Skype is build in for Maemo 5.
It's very2 easy to use Skype compared to other platform. You can make normal calls & videos call by your usual way of calling.
Once you open your dialler, tap "Call type" & change to to your skype account.Make sure you've pre-login & connected to wifi/3g before doing this.
