installed v48 kernel ,
haven't try the battery patch ,
didn't feel much different about battery issue .
tried to install nitdroid to memory card , but memory card read speed too low , keep lagging , at last i removed it :S

Added on August 25, 2011, 5:33 pmand If i use apt-get install nitdroid-installer ,
the nitdroid i get is it same version as the Umay ?
*
My NITDroid always been smooth.Modified kaw2.Some part of modification is against Android license whistling.gif

No idea about auto installer.Been using manual installer for a long time already.

Some people complain about worse battery life with kernel power v48.Mine been ok from the beta kernel.
Also a lot people keep complaining that installing something new always mess up their OS.I've above average hacking in my phone OS & yet everytime I make some changes I seldom have any errors.
My suggestion is go through any guide available before testing/installing anything.

Testing modRana now.Decent GPS application but the UI is no match for OVI/Sygic.

Been following SGS II thread for few days now.
One big difference between SGS II & N900 hardcore users are SGS II users mostly just playing mix & match between custom rom & kernel to get best battery life. While N900 users tend to hack every single single from kernel,os,applications to the core.

Also lack of almighty Maemo flasher like tools for Android is definitely a minus point for Android.

Josh_M - Nice pictures smile.gif but a bit dark.

Master SEA - I also noticed the same thing in Android phone threads, they talk the most about custom roms.. Got the feeling that getting an android phone although very fast & useful, but is kinda dull..

Battery life pretty much suck.Even my friend who owns SGS II don't recommend me SGS II if I want a phone with good battery life.
If I eneded up with SGS II most probably I'll get external battery pack.

Arent external battery pack.. inconvenient? I thought SGS2's battery life will be quite ok, at least according to Engadget's review. Seems like I got the idea wrong.
*
Since the SGS II is very slim you can just attach external battery case.Won't increase the size much.

The battery life is ok for Android device but far cry from iPhone's battery life.

When I went to Sabah 2 weeks ago,I sort of made battery test.
Both my sister & me fully charged our phones at morning every day during our stay.Listened to songs on the way to the locations, took some pictures, record some videos, some sms & calls & browse internet (yes, there's EDGE service in some jungle area near the mountain parts)
By the night we return my phone normally will have red led while my sisters iPhone will still have 20-25% battery left.
Android devices battery life isn't way better than N900.

Haha.. at least you busted this myth of Android's battery life is way better than N900 for me.

But some android's battery life seems to be very good, like My friend's Nexus S can last for roughly 2 or 1.5 days of average use, and almost 4 days of standy.
*
Of course standby Android phone's battery life is better. My ultra hacked N900 can make it 3 days + with mild usage.

The trouble come when using 3G/Wifi to browse.SGS II last around 4 1/2 hours +.My N900 can make it 3 hours +
Only 1 1/2 hours difference?
I expected more from the best SOC on the planet.

There's only 1 way to make conclusively test whether the bad battery consumption is caused by Android or not & that is by installing iOS.
But the chances of Samsung getting iOS codes & run it on their device is as close as the chance of me becoming the best football player on planet.

I have an sgsii and I can tell you that the battery life is better than the n900 but not way better. More importantly is the functions. Don't expect any near flexibilty as you are used to on the n900. One thing it has though is AMPLE development going on. I mean it really is a well supported device which I do thoroughly enjoy after a hard earned experience with the n900. Will I still say the n900 is still better than the sgsii?  No. I've been a hardcore follower and tweaked of my good old n900 but the sgsii really packs a powerful punch with the speed and fluidity of the ux and ui. Many things need some getting used to though. I'm sure you guys already know what they are. Still, for you hardcore geeks out there, I still highly recommend the sgsii. I still keep the n900... cant seem to part with it though I'm like using the sgsii almost exclusively now. N900 specifically for im chats, a litttttttle. Bit of browsing, forums, and office docs.
*
As i pointed out IMO the downside of SGS II is the battery.Other than that I'm impressed with the overall SGS II package.Trust me this is a high praise since I don't normally say this.

The great support part (both from Samsung & Android Community) is another good reason to move to the grey side.

But you have to admit Maemo is still bit special compared to SGS II.You can't do stuff like aircracking with other devices.

hi all guys ,

hope fine ..

i just want to ask ,

i want to connect my n900 to ethernet by following this tutorial >>

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IyeSNGCWTA

with this item http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SBxvgRSEt4

but it doesnt work

is it must have that kind of ethernet adapter exactly in that tutorial ?

or any method ?

for all informations,in my place no such wifi and we need connect internet over ethernet .
*
1st of all you need to use power kernel v45 or later.

Why don't you just create a ad hoc from your laptop & connect your phone to it?
LAN is useful times but I don't recommend you to use it as primary method of connecting a phone/tablet to internet

RM 680.

Btw anyone has any tips on how to make a custom stylus for N900? I still have the default N900 stylus but when I need to do some specific tasks like drawing it isn't very comfortable and it's hard to control my strokes with it, so I thought I'd take a mech pencil and try to fit in something as a pen tip.

Need recommendations on a good stylus body + pen tip combo, inputs appreciated smile.gif
*
Tried toothpicks?
I sometimes used that for drawing.Because of the sharp edge normally your drawing will have more "detail"

If you're using thin SP then it may be scratched.
Anyway toothpicks aren't that sharp

For sure you can use whatever thing that suit you the most.
For resistive screen anything sharp is preferable.
For capacitive screen some blokes use sosej as makeshift stylus.

Just posting here so you guys can +1 on the owners list.
Got mine back in May from some random roadside stall after searching for it for about 3-4 months since I heard of it for RM850. The back cover sensor  and camera shutter sensor is damaged but bah, I don't care.

I guess a good thing about having my previous phone stolen is that I get to use this awesome phone.

Old picture (too lazy to take a new one):

Seriously RM850 for this?
You could have get better 2nd hand N900 with this price.
Even my heavily utilized N900 barely have any scratch.

QUOTE(Dark_Angel85 @ Sep 8 2011, 10:29 AM)
Hmmmm.... I have to admit that vertical scrolling really does look weird but more ergonomic for sure
*
Vertical scrolling is kinda useless. The regular horizontal scrolling is good enough.

QUOTE(FlameReaper @ Sep 8 2011, 09:39 PM)
They still need workaround for the portrait desktop mode... suddenly my wallpapers look weird, I mean, there should be an option to apply a background for portrait mode desktop. So one desktop can have 2 wallpapers: 1 for landscape mode and another 1 for portrait mode. Don't really favor how my landscape mode wallpaper looks like in portrait mode doh.gif
*
Potrait mode is pretty much done deal & it's good. Now just left some apps to support potrait. Some of the program might need some part rewrite of code.A complete potrait VKB is the main thing missing now.

I still haven't update my phone to new CSSU.My shitmix has been down since yesterday.Need it to work before I can update the phone.
