Keyboard is useful for those who text heavily, hack & browsing.
You may have 4.3" screen but at least 1/3 will be taken by vkb if you want to type something. This is very disturbing especially when you post in forum.iPhone really suck at this department.

i followed the front page instruction to install Nitdroid..
bcoz i don have any micro sd card..
so i did repartition on my eMMC, followed fdisk method...
and then i proceed with the NITdroid.. everything is fine..
but until i reboot the phone..
three was three options, and NITDROID is the third option and i pressed "3" to enter the NITDROID option..

However, i got the following error message..

"Root filesystem mmcblk1p5 NOT available!
Guru Notification  #0000025.62017712
Hit any key to panic    "

Need your advice how to proceed.. Ur assistance is much appreciated..
*
Open filebox.
Navigate to "/etc/multiboot.d"
Open "11-NITDroid-mmcblk0p5 bla-bla-bla"
Press edit
Try changing the "ITEM_DEVICE=mmcblk0p5" & save
Try reboot to NITDroid again.

If it's not working post here again.

when i tried to change it to mmcblk0p5 and save, it says "file is read-only"
so im unable to change it..
*
Tick the "enable root access" & try again.
Else install leafpad & open the file from terminal.

Still cannot? I thought can. doh.gif
Still don't have Ofono? @.@
Is Nitdroid still under development or is it last version ady?
*
It's not working properly yet.
eyes got himself SGS II.So the development might slow down. But Android 2.3.5 will come for N900.

QUOTE(sk8pass1 @ Aug 7 2011, 06:50 PM)
A simple question... if I was to use Nitdroid or Meego on my n900, which is the best way to do so? Sd Card or Internal partitioned memory? if it's SD card, which class of card issit recommended to get and its memory size, thanks.
*
Installing MeeGo in eMMC is real pain in @$$.Stick with MMC installation for now. It's quite smooth depending on the card you use.
I'm using Kingmax Class 16 8GB microSD.

Once in a while I'll try the weekly build.
And in that time usually my sister will call me(Don't ask how she got the timing correct).Phone functions & other functions works great so far.

QUOTE(N900user @ Aug 7 2011, 11:03 PM)
i know why i cant connect to my operator..
bcoz the airplane mode is turned on..
however, i tried to turn on.. but it will be automatically turned on again..
how to solve it?
and i watched the video posted in the front page regarding the nitdroid..
i found tat the phone is connected to the operator..
and he oso shows that he receive sms from someone..
can i receive call and sms thru NITDroid? if can, how to?
*
Strangely even after testing NITDroid I have yet to encounter this "flight mode" mode which bugged a lot users.
Try the following in MAEMO:
Open terminal & type following :
sudo gainroot
mount /dev/mmcblk0p5 /and
rm -rf /and/data/*
mkdir /and/data/logs
chmod 777 /and/data/logs
umount /and

Need help.. the picture shows  that i got less memory..
caused me a lot of problem.. like cant open a pdf file...
how to solve this?

fyi, i have done the repartition for nitdroid..
*
Well, you main problem is your rootfs is nearly full. There's only 1MB+ left.
Even with NITDroid installation you should have around 40-50MB free space left.Did you do anymore modification?

Using 8GB for NITDroid is pretty wasteful. You can reduce the partition to 4GB & increase the home partition to 4GB instead.

erm.. as far as i know, i did not do any other modification..
and if the front page code is for 4GB partition, then i think i may have encountered some error during the installation..
wat can i do now to increase back the rootfs space..
btw, if i were to reflash/reformat, will the phone back to the original setting?
*
If you just flash RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin file you'll get clean rootfs but the partition will remain.
If you wish to restore the partition to default flash with vanilla file.

there are still a lot of issues with the lockscreen that i'm not happy with.... the worst being the 2 second delay everytime you load it up... the time waits for 2 seconds even after overclocking at 1000mhz

but you can load your pictures and have a media player control box which is funky la

It's part of qt bug.Need to wait CSSU to integrate Maemo 5 with QT 4.8 to see whether the bug is still there.

Well regarding changing phone I spend part of my budget during my holiday to Sabah last weekend. No regret for it since my N900 still perform well.
I'll take my own sweet time to search for a phone that suit me the best.

I wish Mozilla will just go & build Mozilla Seabird. Now that's phone that I don't mind queuing up for 24 hours to buy it.

DiGi have SGS II with Smartplan contract now.Pretty cheap with reasonable monthly payment.
Since I'm not the type f guy who frequently change phone this kind of contract suits me.

Anyway, there's still time.If I change phone it'll be around October only.

I don't think I'll get N9.
I've had enough "fun" being Nokia's guinea pig.
Highly likely I'll join Android camp reluctantly.

I'm more interested in the OS; Since it's capable of true multi-tasking.... just whether how good it is against Android. Still, the lack of Flash support is "not nice"... I'm the kind of person who prefers to surf full desktop site than mobile site, and also options for us to choose, rather than forced to. In the end, using both qwerty device and non-qwerty device together, it's truly a pain not to have qwerty. Unless there's a good qwerty device, the N900 is there to stay.
*
I'm quite sure everyone here knows how much I like Maemo & MeeGo project & devices.
I do want to try out or even own N9.But the fact remains that I'm a just a student with just limited income from my side projects.I cannot afford to buy multiple phones.
I love desktop class browsing + qwerty keyboard also but aside from that Maemo do suffer from incomplete OS & low battery life.Even after hacking the hell out my N900 not lasting for the duration I hoped it would.

IF I decide to sell my N900 it'll be for pure financial reason and not because I dislike the phone.

It's highly unlikely Nokia Malaysia will give any other users aside from bloggers & rangers to test out N9 so I guess my "adventure" with Nokia will end with N900.

*PS* No need to worry about the thread because even if I sell my phone I'll still remember stuff about this phone & continue maintain this thread.

I agree with this statement very much.

xiia0ha0,
Maybe you should check out the Mugen battery? almost double the capacity of original battery but makes N900 slighly more bulkier,
I think that will make more of a difference in battery life if compared to Scud battery.

I credit Elop for having balls to kill Symbian but he's stupid fr announcing to the whole that Nokia will be killing the OS.
If you want to prepare to transit to another OS don't announce that you're killing the OS openly.Promise long term support but no new device instead.

Unfortunaely, the batery still doesn't last as long as i hope it will... it's also not good for me to judge it now cause it is only my second phone now. if you want however, here is my short review afer using it for one week for online purposes..

Will hook up to home wifi at about 3pm-sleeping time which is about midnight... heavy chatting via built in im chat via facebook account and msn pecan. sometimes will open fapman and update catalogues, one or two browsers open mainly TMO and LYN. Will last me throughout until the next morning, maybe less than half left. Must chage early afternoon maybe at about 2pm.

I've left the phone unused and only vey minimal usage of im chats before... means not more than 2-3 hours of usage online... withot any browsing.. lasts me 3 days comfortably without worruing about charging. do jote i'm using karam's battery patch. not the speedpatch though which i feel has no boost.

You guys tried taskswapper? I think it's a real good function. though you can't control tab in text editing in browsers anymore cause it is being replaced with he taskswapper option..

Fiuhhhhhhhh.. damn gard typing long forum replies like this on the SGSII.. N900 keyboard is still the best
*
Trust me,you can use whatever battery you want but the battery will be more or less same with the default battery.
Forget about the hardware modification & concentrate on software modification aka OS modification to improve battery life.

I assume most of you yet to update to KP48? Repo has been making trouble with the autobuilder.Need to install manually for now.

Taskswapper is good but I prefer the default way of multitasking.I just like to see all running program & switch to the 1 I want to use.

Looking at the typos I think you need some time to get used to VKB.Typing in potrait or landcape?
And trust me,any crappy hardware keyboard is better than vkb.

Talking about Android, did few modification to my NITDroid yesterday & everything runs extra smoothly now...
