guys,

if you're following TMO... I'm wondering if it has already been shared here... if it has, then sorry for this irrelevant post

btu battery life will greatly increase by reducing the VFS cache from 100 to a lower value. They are proposing it to be 10 at TMO and I'm currently testing it to see if it really gives 2-3x more battery life.

Added on July 8, 2011, 8:45 amhi guys... sorry for asking this old question.. just wanna find out which one of these widgets are probably causing the hildon-home to crash... i know every device is different but I wanna know which one is highly probable for causing it:

I have:

Personal Dataplan Monitor
Personal IP address
Conversations Inbox
Calender
Bluzwitch
qtbatterywidget
mediaplayer(the default one)
4 QBW related to overclocking, 3 with clockspeeds and 1 for displaying the current clockspeed

thanks

EDIT: on top of that, is it realllly because of the widgets that cause hildon-home to crash? I mean... cause the widgets i've listed above, i've gotten quite dependent on it.. so it'll be nice if there were to be a workaround this issue
*
Are you using MAG's patched hildon-desktop?

QUOTE(vaizard @ Jul 9 2011, 11:38 PM)
sifus...
how to check we are using power kernel v47?
*
Open terminal & type "uname -r" without the " "
Should show 2.6.28.10-power47 if you're using kernel power 47

Else just open conky or heath check app

QUOTE(V429 @ Jul 9 2011, 11:47 PM)
I think you can check with Conky, top right side should show.

Added on July 9, 2011, 11:53 pmby the way guys,

i noticed when I have application manager running checking or updating the packages,
that the N900 slows down to a crawl.. and i am just running app manager and a single browser.
my N900 is oc'ed to 900mhz, so this shouldnt be a problem?

is this normal?  hmm.gif
*
You'll feel some laggyness but not this severe.
Tried FAPman?

QUOTE(V429 @ Jul 10 2011, 12:05 AM)
yeah, using FAPman.
but the lagginess is.. severe.
the speed returns to normal after the update.

so.. this isnt normal?
*
Tried rebooting?
The laggyness should be caused by high RAM usage.

Last time when I modified my vfs cache my phone keep on crashing.Perhaps something to do with my OC profile.
I can get 4 days of usage without using karam's script.

I do want to test karam's script & possibly modify them to suit my need but I need extra phone (which I don't have) in case my phone crashed while testing.
*Looking for competition that gives out phone as prize* laugh.gif

sea:

really? what's your OC profile? mind pasting here to share with us? i can only seem to manage bareeeeely 1 day with moderate usage

Mine:

CODE
# kernel configuration file generated by /usr/sbin/kernel-config
MINFREQ=500
MAXFREQ=850
FREQS="0:30,90 500:30,360 550:33,400 600:38,430 700:45,430 750:45,430 "
SMARTREFLEX_VDD1=0
SMARTREFLEX_VDD2=0
GOVERNOR=ondemand
IGNORE_NICE_LOAD=1
UP_THRESHOLD=75
SAMPLING_RATE=150000
POWERSAVE_BIAS=0

I can get 4 days of battery life but with very light usage(phone & sms only)

Try undervolting if you really want to squeeze a bit more battery life.

go to thread page 397. install the deb. brilliant so far... but still new... might have bugs but all users have positive replies... including me... but just used it not too long ago

This is more or less what I told Andy long2 time ago.Since the limitation of "free" desktop of Maemo 5 only way to get potrait desktop is by having 2 seperate setting in hildon desktop for each potrait & landscape mode.
Personally for me this doesn't make much difference for me because I prefer landscape desktop.I've already tricked my phone for decent potrait view in other apps/functions.

Also watch out for the battery life.All these rotating should very lightly affect your battery consumption.

SEA

I agree all the rotating will eat up the battery. Even i prefer portrait especially when I'm heavily browsing the internet... kinda TOO used to landscape actually...

... but I always like to have options.

Still up for sharing your OC profile with us? I'd really like to compare and see how you manage 4 days of usage. It'll be really cool to share that dude.

Cheers
*
I'm using ideal 500MHz-850MHz profile.You need to undervolt on your own according to what your processor can take.Too low voltage & your phone will keep on crashing.Worst case is you'll join Eiraku with dead processor.

Anyway nowdays my battery lasy for 2 days only because heavy usage of bluetooth headset + playing song.I don't have other mp3 player laugh.gif

BTW 720p DSP patch has been included in kernel-power v48.For those with balls of titanium go ahead & test the kernel.
I have to wait till Saturday to test it sad.gif
Man,I really need secondary phone...

there would be so sad to know, no asphalt 6 for n900.

There was NEVER Asphalt games for Maemo.We ported the games from webOS Asphalt source.
Better hope gameloft release Asphalt 6 for webOS.If they release we can try porting it.

wowzer... i might get it too compared to the SGSII
*
Remember since it's a exclusive AT&T phone we have to get the AP set.
Technical wise AT&T phone should work fine in Malaysia.

how to do that?i don't understand... icon_question.gif
*
This issue could be caused by "broken" kernel
I’m assuming you’re following the frontpage method of flashing so I’ll be using R.bin as image name.
Type the following at the Maemo Flasher tool.Make sure you have the R.bin(PR 1.3) file in correct location.
CODE
flasher-3.5 -F R.bin --flash-only=kernel -f -R

Read frontpage if you want to know about flashing.

Price should be very low.
It would be nice if Nokia give away couple of N9 for active N900 users here whistling.gif

Urh, are you sure there's going to be a qwerty version for SGS II? hmm.gif
*
The device itself is real but looking at less than warm reception I don't know whether it'll make to the market.
Seriously,what's problem with physical qwerty? You can type faster & hacking is easier with the keyboard.
The thickness isn't too much.Too thin is not all that helpful.Look at the all the heat complaints in SGS II thread.

i think it'll just be a variant released in the US. I kinda feel that it would eventually make it to us but not after a looooong while. are you using the SGSII SEA? i plan on getting a hold of one because i'm too tempter by 2 things:

1. large gorgeous screen. mainly because i surf the net a lot. watch videos a lot, so a large screen and nice display really does appeal to me.
2. browser. i hate it that we can't spam windows like how i like to open 3-4 running windows like microb can, but the browser definitely loads like super fast based on the reviews i've seen online...

what's holding me back from making my n900 the 2nd phone are:

1. hardware keyboard - so important to me
2. i heard android doesn't multi task easily. i mean... switching through apps is important to me too.. but i saw the fluidity of the device, maybe that counters it somehow

AP Price is RM1978... ok? should i get one?
*
Just tried my friend's SGS II.It's good but the lack of keyboard making me think twice.
Screen is great & performance is great as expected from device with high end hardware.

Android's multitasking is similar to iOS.I think even WP7 Mango's multitask will be better than Android's.
If you want proper multitasking phone you should choose between webOS,MeeGo & Maemo

I reaaaalllllyy want a N9 but the lack of commercial games & official support is kinda big turn off...
As things stands right now I most probably will go for SGS II (although reluctantly).

Why take AP set?You can get ori set with 1 year warranty from RM1920 or 2 years warranty from RM2090
