Try to drain all batt to zero (auto shut off), and full charge to 100%. Upon 100% delete batt stats while still connected to charger. Restart and wait until 100% again only discharge from charger.

Then download battery doctor and try to follow the recommendations inside.

I think we are quite similar on the battery life. I'm only using Edge now when I'm outside. If whole day on outside with usage, battery will dry around 7pm (unplug at 8:30am).

Sync: Google contacts, calendar (2x), mail (2x), reader. Whatsapp. Samsung Push Mail YM, Hotmail. Lotus Notes Traveller. Google Location/Latitude. FB SNS at 12hrs interval. Tweetdeck every hour for FB, Twitter account.

I guess that's about it on my background sync. Yeah, battery life a shit.

Haha, no worries....most of us are noobs at one point in time.

Basically Kies is a very unfriendly software. There were many version upgrades and many of us had headaches upgrading them....always get disconnected halfway...... Sometimes after you successfully upgraded the Kies, then you can't connect your SGS.....sometimes you can connect but cannot upgrade firmware (like what you are facing now)....

So most of us here don't use Kies....we can get stock ROM or custom ROM from samfirmware and xda developer forum.
