Guy,
I wanted to buy a walkaround prime lens. not sure which one to choose from the below
2 lenses:
1) Sony DT 35mm F/1.8 review ( = 52.5mm in A580?)
2) Minolta AF 24mm F2.8
Which one more suitable?
Any one has experience with this 2 lenses?
Hi FrozenRay, here are the pros and cons of each lens (which I could think of)
Sony 35mm f1.8
Pros
Light weight
Cheap (price)
New
35mm = 52.5mm in APS-C (50mm is the normal focal length of our eyes, so it might seem more natural)
its f1.8!
cons
Build feels cheap (plastic)
DT lens. When used in FF it will vignette (or the FF sensor will be tuned down to APS-C to accomodate the lens) not sure sry
Minolta 24mm f2.8
Pros
Built like a tank (metal mount)
might be hard to find a good copy (not so sure abt this lol)
Minolta colours! (saturated and vibrant!)
A bit wider than the 35mm f1.8
FF compatible
Cons
Old coating (might be prone to flare, like all minolta lens)
heard that its not that sharp at 2.8 might have to stop down for it to reach its maximum sharpness.
f2.8!
I would pick the 35mm as it would also serve as a good portrait lens =)

eddybeh: Not so much, just like we know what color things are, even under warm orange light, due to
color constancy:
