Hi everyone. NEX 3 user here, mind if I join this thread instead of NEX? Sony Alpha NEX ma, can join either right? tongue.gif

I'm the dude who bought cassplayer's SAL55200 on page 111 of Alpha Thread V49. Just thought I'd update you guys on it, without meaning any harm to cassplayer (buy 2nd hand sure have these little problems right?).

The lens' aperture was not stopping down. I sent the lens to Cheah Camera Repair shop and just got it back today. He said the aperture spring was rusty and broken. he also didn't know it could break biggrin.gif Repair cost RM120 FYI. I suck at bargaining sweat.gif Thanks cassplayer for the RM50 refund, that was very nice of you thumbup.gif

Here's a sample pic I took of my dog. NEX3 + SAL55200 + Fotodiox A-mount adapter. Quite noisy bcos ISO1600 and not very bright place, plus I suck at noise removal sad.gif I'm liking the lens smile.gif

Also want to dispel some ideas that the 3rd party adapter can spoil the lens aperture. I don't think it will, but if it breaks again and it seems like the adapter's fault I'll update you guys again biggrin.gif

Cheers icon_rolleyes.gif

from who? mitmivec? what sd card did they give you? i bought my a380 from key color they gave me some shit sd.. take 30 sec shot = process image for another 30 sec.
*
Are you sure the additional 30 seconds is not due to high ISO long exposure noise reduction? As per my understanding from my previous Canon 550D, if high ISO long exposure noise reduction is on, the camera will take 2 exposures of equal duration: one normal and one with the shutter closed. The 2nd exposure will be subtracted from the first to reduce black noise. Just tested with my NEX-3 and it is the same.

BTW does anyone know if NEX high ISO long exposure NR can be turned on/off at will? Or can it only be set by the camera depending on the shoot mode?

puppydogpoo: Yes, you can turn off Long Exposure NR on the NEX bodies. I tried in A mode. However in iAuto, the option is On and cannot be disabled.
*
Strange... On my NEX3 with Firmware 3:

M and A mode: Long Exposure NR Off. Cannot change ("This function is currently disabled")
Night View Scene mode: Long Exposure NR On. Cannot change ("This function is currently disabled")

I didn't test iAuto bcos AFAIK it is supposed to detect the scene and apply suitable settings, so will probably get inconsistent results.

Image type was Fine JPEG and High ISO NR was Weak.

puppydogpoo: It could be something else - better to check in the manual. I tried turning on HDR 6.0EV, Smile Shutter, RAW+JPG, JPG only, 0.5" exposure, 2" exposure, all also still can change Long Exposure NR. The manual should tell you why it is disabled.
*
I checked the manual but it didn't say anything at all useful. Maybe the explanation is in another section. Will check later or online. Thanks! smile.gif

codyx: base on what u said.

well, when in burst mode, the NR is disable (even u last set to ON), only single drive then the NR will work in high mode. else it will run on Native NR (the sensor A/D conversion NR)

Single drive : NR able to set to high (iso3200 above then activates)
Burst drive : NR is auto run on Native NR, High NR will not be activated.
*
I thought Codyx was referring to Long Exposure NR instead of High ISO NR?

super sharp as prioriity second will be the longest range~ travel friendly never thought of it untill last night...
for 70400 the biggest problem is i cant hold still when it go to 400mm even i try to hold my breath, from the OVF it looks shaky after the shoot.
*
Your Alpha's Super Steady Shot reduces vibrations only in the captured image. Check the pictures you take in playback mode and see if they also have camera shake. If not then your hands are good enough lo biggrin.gif But I agree, it can be difficult to compose the shot with all that shake... And I really wish Sony put SSS into the NEX cameras! mad.gif

BTW your font and bad typing makes your posts very difficult to read...
