something gone wrong with my guinea pig.

i have a box, seperate lane. i got 3 guinea pigs. 2 adult 1 newbought baby.
the baby is 3 week old. they usually do not fight at all. been living for 6 month already.

because one of the adult is doing excessing butt licking, i seperate it into another lane for like 4-5 hours. then i put back the adult back together with the another adult, then the baby alone into the other lane because the baby is still under fungus treatment.

then suddenly, one of the adult started teeth chattering, the other one just normal, then the one who started teeth chattering attacked the other one. i quickly seperate them. they are close to each other from the first month until now 6th month. do they have short term memory? @@ 4 hours seperated and they don't recognize each other anymore? =(

Added on April 21, 2011, 12:40 amnvm I really think they do have hard time recognizing each other.

first time I bought the baby, they always sniff the buff to see if it's female or male, after they confirm, they won't do it as much. then i seperate the baby again then back into the main ground, and they sniff again.

another time, i separate both adult, then back into the den, they sniff butt again (no fighting). that separation was like 10 mins. now 5 hours separation, they don't seem to recognize until I make approach to them, then they started to recognize each other.

2 adult also male
newbie still unknown, but one of the adult after sniffing it didn't care about the newbie, the other one keep on sniffing non stop. the one that didn't care and show friendly attitude is actually the one who started the teeth chattering towards the another adult after 5 hour separations. strange huh? :-(

after they recognize, the another adult sniff the other adult, until he got mad he started teeth chattering again. now the atmosphere is normal back.

yea i agree with you. until then i think better seperate the baby first since it is having fungus treatment.
now they ok liao. when the other one sniffing the other one, the agressive (the one who started the fight) now having a friendly run (still irritated by the sniffing but didn't attempt to bite him). i wonder why. he never did this sniffing b4 until the new baby come into their life. then now because the baby is on the other side, he keep on sniffing the other one (male). =.=!

The mum need at least 3 month rest from delivery date so that she can gain back her health and weight. Plus she will nursing her new offspring but if she got pregnant again she could lose her milk due to the pregnancy and the newborn will starve.

Remember that they need to stay with the mother for at least 3 weeks to make sure they know how to eat by themselves and to get enough milk from the mother. If you have male offspring then you need to separate them with the mother when they reach 3 weeks old.

use fleece/cloth bedding better.. low cost.. jus be sure to have at least 3 set change and clean nia lor..
u dont wan ur gran kid to mate with their mom right... it will produce in breed which is bad...tat the cost of breeding.. so when u wanna breed pls make sure u have enough place and time to care for them...

if your grandkid all female then it is ok to let them be with the mother. But if male then after 3 weeks you need to separate them. If not the male will mate with his mother and will cause inbreed.

Like xavi says. fleece is a very good bedding.
