but only half of the upper teeth are broken.i got to know about it yesterday when jackie could not eat the carrot. It only can eat the carrot when i cut it into small pieces.how long does it take for the teeth to grow back??
*
No prob smile.gif glad can share some info with you. Just monitor to make sure he can still eat. Do cut the veges to smaller pieces to make it easy for ur Gp to bite. Dun worry, it might take some time but the teeth will grow back.

QUOTE(xavi5567 @ Apr 28 2011, 02:10 PM)

hehe hi kaoru san =P. hmm im planning to get another guinea pig , but im really broke now. i bought 4 guinea pig from pets wonderland , all 2 abby 2 normal . named cha siu , siu yok , simba and raigor.

2 more from a pet shop near petaling street, tiny and tiny2.

siu yok was the first to pass away, he had URI sad.gif.
second was tiny , she was okay , i kept her in my room for 3 days and she died the next day. there was no sign of sickness though..
3rd was cha siu sad.gif . she pooped blood and was thinner ( she's with my bf ) and finally passed away.
4th was raigor. previously he had some skin infection , eye seems crusty and a little lethargic which i brought him to the vet . gave him meds and he was okay. then he pooped bloody poop and then pooped only blood. then he stopped pooping for 2 days . i fed him fresh vegetables and carrots and he started pooping again but quite little. he seem to get more healthy but he passed away..
5th was tiny. she died a few hours after raigor died. maybe she was sad..
6th was simba. which was with my bf. after cha siu died , he got thinner and had no energy and finally passed away..

do u think i am a bad owner? or just unlucky that i bought sick gp's. actually i kept in gp in the toilet , and then the balcony where they cant enter the house but roam there so i dont think they pick up any sheildtox or pesticides scent.. i want to keep a gp but im afraid that it will pass away. I feed my gp bengy hay and bengy pellets which is 24/7 there and carrots and lettuce but i still dont know why do they die.. the last time raigor passed away i cried for a week.. i feel really attached to him

do u think i should get another gp? or just stick with keeping my hamster :c.

anyways rip my babies. especially raigor :C.

I'm sorry for your loss. I know how it feels to lose something you care dearly about. sad.gif
Pet shops are a bad, bad place to buy guinea pigs. There's a reason why they are cheaper than home bred guinea pigs. It's because they are produced in masses and not many are healthy. If you have visited GP farms, you'd never want to buy and GPs from there. The cages are crammed with so many GPs and babies are born in all that chaos. A lot of inbreeding occurs which usually leads to many diseases and short lives. In the future, perhaps you could get one from home breeders here. And if I'm not mistaken, Bengy Pellets are only for rabbits and not for guinea pigs (though the label says it's okay for both).

Nowadays there are many highly recommended GP specific pellets available in the market now, i.e. Oxbow, Pet Diner, Hagen, Chubbypet etc.

Cheapest recommended GP food would be Hagen.

Balanced price and quality I would say Kaytee.

Value for money, but yet most expensive should be Oxbow. But it is the best and recognized as best diet for GP all around the world.

See my 3 weeks old Texeruvian, which looks like Sheltie. Their fur are amazingly long at this young age. I still remembered when they were first born, I thought they turn out to be normal American short hair, never expected their fur quality turn out to be as long as Sheltie. Now they look exactly like Sheltie instead of Texel or Peruvian.

Added on April 29, 2011, 1:06 amAnd this is my 4 months old male Peruvian, his fur is bushyly thick.

Hi Rukia-chan >> Based on your description on how ur GP died, I can assume that the caused is mostly related to food. When you mention Bengy food, to you mean the pellets with corns and nuts mixed with it? If this is what you feed ur GP, then please stop immediately. Nuts and corns are not suitable for GPs. Sadly pet industries tend to assume that GPs are like Hamsters, and they eat almost the same food. WHICH IS NOT TRUE.

I suggest the most affordable AND suitable for GP consumption is HAGEN pellets. They are alfalfa based, no nuts, and i think the cheapest available. For GP, it is best to provide Timothy-based pellets, but this Hagen is not bad either.

If you really want to provide the best and can afford more, you can give them Oxbow or other premium quality timothy based pellets. You must also provide them variety of veges and fruits which is not harmful to them, and plenty of water. And it is best to provide unlimited timothy hay, 24/7.

1 thing about GPs, they are not able to show early signs of pain or suffering due to illness as good as other animals. They might jump around and eat like nothing happen, and they next day you will might find them dead. What is best is to closely monitor them, and provide good food. You can differentiate a healthy, well cared GP with a lesser ones judging by their size, eyes, their behavior and fur quality.

U can PM me if you need more advice, I will be more happy to help you. Oh and please read the thread's 1st page, there is A LOT of useful information that might nourished your knowledge about GP.

wow they are fabulous, expecially the first one, really looked like a pure Sheltie~!

Alice gave birth to 4 kid yesterday evening, unfortunately 3 died when i arrived home from work. All the 3 one are normal size and full formed, but I am not able to determine whether they died before or after delivery. the smallest one survived, black color and looked like an abby. I hope this little one survived. wink.gif

but the quality is different ma.. there might be nuts inside the pellet.. nvr know.. i also quite agree with kaoru.. the death might be closely related to food intake.. the source of gp itself.. does all ur gp come from the same petshop ? honestly i never seen bloody poo in gp b4..
--> bloody poo cause is-->Ciccodioses is a liver and intestinal disease caused by a single celled parasite. Guinea Pigs typically contract this disease by consuming food or water that has been contaminated with feces. Physical response to this type of disease depends on a number of factors and can be manifest in a number of ways. Guinea pigs infected with ciccodia can experience blood in the feces and diarrhea, and become dehydrated and experience weight loss. Pet owners should seek the help of a veterinarian to treat this illness.

Yeah even though it is doesn't contain whole nuts and grain products, it may also be crushed and added as one of the ingredient, besides other stuff that might not suppose to be there like flour. I'm no GP nutritionist, but based on my study and experience while rearing GP, their food intake can drastically deteriorate, or improve their health and life span.

I guess you can continue feeding them Bengy hay, but not the pellets. Try replacing it with Hagen instead. I feed my GPs according to these basic percentage :

40% Timothy hay + Orchid Grass + Alfalfa(for pregnant GPs and babies only)
30% Hagen GP Pellet
25% Veges
5% Fruits

I just got to know from my boss, in Australia ppl call GP 'princess' smile.gif Probably because when we rare GP, they are treated like princes and princesses, and we are their slave LOL it is true anyway hahaha.

HELP!!!!am so glad I found this Forum! I love guinea pigs I have had them my whole life. There is no better animal! In november I bought my daughter her first male guinea pig she absolutly took to him so in January I told her that we could get him a friend because they don't like to be alone. Well I thought I bought another male but much to my suprise she was not. Needless to say she just had babies one male and one female and i separtated the two males and the two females together. the mature male was very excepting of the new one.. well now the baby male keeps chasing around my mature male and licking his butt... He won't leave it alone... I have never seen this before is it because there are females present? Should I separate them as anyone experienced this before?
