something gone wrong with my guinea pig.

i have a box, seperate lane. i got 3 guinea pigs. 2 adult 1 newbought baby.
the baby is 3 week old. they usually do not fight at all. been living for 6 month already.

because one of the adult is doing excessing butt licking, i seperate it into another lane for like 4-5 hours. then i put back the adult back together with the another adult, then the baby alone into the other lane because the baby is still under fungus treatment.

then suddenly, one of the adult started teeth chattering, the other one just normal, then the one who started teeth chattering attacked the other one. i quickly seperate them. they are close to each other from the first month until now 6th month. do they have short term memory? @@ 4 hours seperated and they don't recognize each other anymore? =(

Added on April 21, 2011, 12:40 amnvm I really think they do have hard time recognizing each other.

first time I bought the baby, they always sniff the buff to see if it's female or male, after they confirm, they won't do it as much. then i seperate the baby again then back into the main ground, and they sniff again.

another time, i separate both adult, then back into the den, they sniff butt again (no fighting). that separation was like 10 mins. now 5 hours separation, they don't seem to recognize until I make approach to them, then they started to recognize each other.

2 adult also male
newbie still unknown, but one of the adult after sniffing it didn't care about the newbie, the other one keep on sniffing non stop. the one that didn't care and show friendly attitude is actually the one who started the teeth chattering towards the another adult after 5 hour separations. strange huh? :-(

after they recognize, the another adult sniff the other adult, until he got mad he started teeth chattering again. now the atmosphere is normal back.

2 male obviously will fight after they know there are female or new underling la... i give u an example in human ok
2 guy  never saw a gal their whole life , suddenly a babe move in, what will they do? sure they wanna go and check them out (in GP world check them out is butt sniffing ) after intro and courting ... the babe might like 1 guy more than the other guy.. so wat happen.. like most ego men.. they will fight..

case two--> 2 "gay" staying together suddenly a babe/a hunk move in... out of two gay there bound to be alpha "male" and "ladies"... then this alpha male or ladies go check some 1 new out.. sure la the other guy cemburu and fight again..

funny but true.. when u have 2 male GP never try to intro a female or male into them... they will have conflict out of sudden de...

yea i agree with you. until then i think better seperate the baby first since it is having fungus treatment.
now they ok liao. when the other one sniffing the other one, the agressive (the one who started the fight) now having a friendly run (still irritated by the sniffing but didn't attempt to bite him). i wonder why. he never did this sniffing b4 until the new baby come into their life. then now because the baby is on the other side, he keep on sniffing the other one (male). =.=!

I'm so sad. I have 3 very active and cute guinea pig. One of them suddenly lose interest and always getting tired and sleeping in the corner. His nose breathing have sound and eventually mucus blocked his nose breathing and he have to breath thru mouth and causes wet chin. He been struggling with breathing until he's very tired and no interest to walk around.

I send him to vet after notice his condition getting worse. Docs said his lung isn't good from what she hear thru her stethoscope. She said my guinea pig condition is not good but she is relief that my guinea pig is still active and can still eat and drink, which is a good thing. Now after 2 days living in cage at the vet, my guinea pig is getting better but his eye show me that he is still weak.

I heard guinea pig with respiration problem (URI) are dangerous and mostly end up dying. I stopped giving him dried food, and feed him more veggies and fruits b4 the day I send him to vet. I heard giving them timothy hay is better because of high fiber which will aids his immune system. I also give him slices of apples as vitamin C supplements.

Anyone have the same problem before that you can share? I really hope I can do more for my guinea pig if it help him in his recovery.

Cheers.

if your guinea pig start chattering each other, and it never ends until both cannot live together, try this. it works for me!

i had 3 guinea pig. 2 were fighting for the new one (3 also males, but the 2 misunderstood the new piggies is females). the fight is horrible until they wounded. i was advise they will never be friends again. that is not true.

step one. you must seperate them for one hour.
step two. bath them with the same perfume shower gel (the stronger the scent the better).
step three. dry them and the perfume will stay stronger.

put them together and voila, u have your friends back.
reason why if you notice carefully, they actually have short term memories and bad eye sight. that is why if you seperate them and put back, they will still sniff each other even though they live for months together.

hope this helps.

cheers :-)
