question time

1. let's say 15 march bb turns 6mo... u start solid food on 1 march or after 15 march or as long as bb shows interest in solid food?

2. is there any ready bb food that doesn't contain skimmed cow's milk?

1) u can start on 1st march.. i start 2 weeks before 6months due to convenience of the timing (had vaccinations planned in the week he turns 6months, and i only had the weekend to start food cos i work full time)

2) Plenty of bb food dont contain skimmed milk... like heinz and gerbers.. but since u are SAHM, why not make your own? cheaper and healthier too

I wont advice nestle as first food cos it contains sugar.

I gave heinz rice cereal as the first food, and i dont think it contains skimmed milk. Which heinz product did u look at?

For travelling, u can get the canned food for once in a while usage, it is something that u can adjust for short term need...

For long term i prefer to give home cooked food.

I started solids at exactly 6 months. Gave my son rice cereal but he doesn't like it..then tried heinz pureed carrot..and loved it..Attached Image

I agree with qarezma..cookign your own is way much healthier. I would make a batch and then freeze it in ice-cube tray..and only take out the blocks whenever i need it.

hmm your son is choosy with the taste is it?
I gave Sanju rice cereal and he was quite excited with it...

I also make in batches and freeze it! For fruits purees, i pass daily supplements to my babysitter

last week i made fried rice with salmon for my kiddo.. recipe here:

Yeah..he was choosy...never liked rice cereal or porridge..dunno why. But he took on well on the pureed vege and fruits..guess...it is sweet.

Nowadays, it's much easier coz I give him whatever we eat unless it's spicy food. He loves fried rice for sure..still don't really like porridge.

heinz biscuit is not suitable for 1st time food... that one u can give maybe later 8 months and above... it has salt/sugar contents, hence not that recommended.. i do give once in a while for convenient food, otherwise i dont make it a habit.

You need to look out for heinz rice cereal.
Below are the among baby food that i bought. Heinz rice cereal comes in a blue box

Weaning starts after baby reach minimum 4 months old. I start gradually la. Mainly soft foods like potato, carrot, then add in fish etc.

1 simple Baby food recipe for lazy dad like me:

- boiled potato + Boiled carrots + boiled green peas ( cooked tengiri/salmon or tuna fish which is optional)
- Little butter
- Boiled milk ( 1/4th of total amount of solid eg if 400gms of above vege+fish, I add 100mls of boiled fresh milk
- minimal salt ( optional)

Blend everything together....Finish

nice idea but most paed would recommend 6 months above. Plus fresh milk for <1yo is not suitable, without knowing if your baby is allergic or not... and no salt required for baby food

Very true..but most babies already on cow's milk (i.e formula instead of breast milk ) very early in life which is not recommended. But i really dont think there r any difference between fresh or formula cows milk coz both will have casein right??. Weaning can be started earliest at 4 months, depending on which country's practice as well.. No salt would be perfect.....Dont see any harm with minimum salt though..

FM is made from cows milk but it is not exact same content of cows milk. Plus cows milk is the purest thickest form, not all babies can take it. Do consult your paed.

If you do further research, daily recommended salt intake for babies is very very little, which can contain in the natural food itself. Adding extra salt is introducing extra content. Plus if u start giving solids to your baby with 'tasty' food, they will be very choosy in eating later on. Difficult for you, and also depriving them of good nutrition.

My advice, if possible start with no added salt and sugar, to build good foundation.

Yup, once they are hooked on salt & sugar, very hard to undo.

Normal local mix veg I dun trust. Their green pea is bigger and not tender, looks like it has been dye and doesn't change color no matter how long you cook it. Their corn is tough and 'old'. Carrot looks like from China, some times the orange color comes out. sweat.gif

I use fork and blender. Now I use blender less to encourage the chewing habit and improve the jaw muscle.

For the first time, I used blender to puree the food..later on..to encourage chewing I chopped using the chopper (same like blender but blade is different and don't need to add liquid when pureeing

i only used the watties peas for baby.. as another person says, i think the quality is better than others

should wait for 6 months for 1st feeding lor... by then baby can at least sit with back supported smile.gif

first few homemade food i pureed with blender.. after 7-8 months i start to mash with fork (esp for potato+carrot+veg)
