When our baby first got into food, my mother in law used this recipe to cook.

Pork Meat (no fats) - just for the taste
Brokoli/Spinach
Pumpkin/Carrot/Potato

She will mix the components and sometimes used all of it as 1 combo...

When baby is still small, she will grind all of it (except the meat)... Easier for baby to swallow.

Our baby likes it a lot... His daddy also likes to lick the leftover..

For dessert, Fruits such as Apple, Orange, Banana, Grapes, Kiwi

I bought recipe book from Annabel Karmel...and I started off with carrots, apple, pears, broccoli..then I graduated to chicken + carrots + potato..or chicken + potato + apple..salmon + cheese..spaghetti bolognese.

My mom tried cooking porridge for my son as she used to cook for us..he didn't like it...so that's why i ended up cooking all those mat salleh style cooking. Till now he doesn't quite like the texture of porridge.

Few days ago we met one baby that refused to eat solid food. Her mum used fish/scallop to cook the porridge. The baby just refused to eat for months, been on milk only. So, we brought our recipe to try. And the baby liked it so much, even finished it. We guess, the baby may not like the seafood (fishiness) taste.

It all depends on your baby. Some are quite picky. So you have to experiment what suites the baby best.

U got try blend the porridge to make the texture smooth. Rojak all the things, then blend until it is smooth?

didn't try pureeing the porridge..but now since he's already 1.5yo..he's quite ok with just normal rice with food..I think he may like a little bit of rough texture. One thing i know for sure..is he loves fried rice! Even after eating his food..if we are eating fried rice..he would also wallop ours!

my baby graduated from pureed porridge to mashed porridge... sometimes i just let him taste our food by giving him grains of rice to eat, hope to train him to eat normal rice already... now 1 yo...

i also have some cool recipes on my blog.. my main ingredients are carrot, pumpkin, brocoli and potato.. easy to buy and easy to store for a long time, cos babies intake is very small mah...

another very good and useful website for baby nutrition is wholesomebabyfood..it was my bible

I always keep an eye out for Frozen veg like those you have mentioned whenever I visit Tesco. These are not your regular frozen stuff but imported Tesco UK label. These frozen veg can be kept in the freezer for up to 3 month but do check out the expiry dates. And as you've mention we only need small quantities so a bag usually last me a month or 2. It is very convenient as I only need to rinse, cut into smaller pieces and pop it into the nearly cooked broth. Very little waste and easy to portion control.

And good Frozen veg is Watties baby peas. Not many outlet carries this Aussie product but do grab one and try for yourself. This is the smaller size green peas, so they are much tender (especially the skin) and sweeter. If you toddler is able to bite you can try these half smash to start off his chew training, if not you can blend them skin and all.

i also keep watties mixed veg (green peas, corn & carrot) handy in case i want to make pasta or fried rice any time.. very convenient!

i started off with 1 meal (lunch). after baby ok to take fruits, i started giving fruits as snack (3-4pm). At about 8-9 months i started giving dinner

i know some people started dinner earlier, but i gave my baby some time get used to it, and also get some rest for myself tongue.gif

one more thing tongue.gif after baby try a certain food let's say apple for day 1... then he can eat apple for day 2-4 then try new food? or eat apple day 1 then wait until day 5 then try new food? for allergy...

Best after 6 months but better seek medical advice before offering water to your infant as too much water can stop your baby's body from absorbing the nutrients it needs from b-milk which can also lead to an imbalance of electrolytes.

it is advised to follow 4 day rule when intro new food. After 4th day, u are confident he is fine with the food. After that u can start intro a new food or just continue with apple.

Give water once baby start solid, that is around 6 months

Storage of meat.
Here is a tip for busy mum whose kid can take meat. Try keeping your mince meat in a zip lock bag. Flatten evenly through out the whole bag with the thickness about half cm think only. This will help you take out(break off) the correct small portion for use without waste or over thawing.
Do mark the date on a sticky tape and use within 3 weeks. Do ensure it is always air tight.
