Don't worry bro; it's compatible, prepare to get poison  tongue.gif
FX  = Full Frame (D700, D3, etc)
DX = Crop Sensor (D70, D90, D7000, D3100, D300, etc)

New DSLR got new technology  tongue.gif
Basically, many things are improved.
*
I'm already poisoned! Siggy or tammy 17-50mm f2.8? Siggy 24-70mm/18-50mm f2.8? 50 1.8D/1.4D/ 35 1.8G? 85 1.8D? So many lens I'm getting sick! laugh.gif Too bad I can't have it all. Having choice is great, but having too little money with too many choice sucks. rclxms.gif

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Jan 31 2011, 12:51 AM)
24 on DX is not wide enough, if you like to capture landscape and/or group photo. Test the Sigma or Tammy 17-50mm f/2.8.

for the 50mm prime, get the f/1.8D if you're on budget, forget about the 1.4D; IMO, not worth spending on it, if you want to get the 1.4D, might be better to spend a little more and get the G or Sigma.
50mm on DX indoors is a bit tight too, 35mm on DX is just about right. Even with the 35mm on DX, it can still get a bit tight depend on the situation.
But you already have 18-55mm right? I think you know the range well and what range you use more indoors.
*
Yeah, I didn't really like the 35 1.8 coz if I have the 17-50 f2.8 then there's hardly any difference really and another thing bout the 35mm is that it isn't a macro lens. I think the 17-50 will work just fine for indoors, just looking for a prime that will be good enough for outdoor, so my choice is 50mm but i've just do some search on flickr and found many d7000 uses the 85 1.8D too. Might test it out at the shop. Also, how do you normally test the camera at the shop? Do you think they will let me bring it to outdoor to test the low lights for the lens?

Mine is VC version. low lights situation. You can feel it's trying to focus the subject for 3~5 seconds or more, af motor sound keeps going to focus the subject else you might need to chance position so that you can focus it right. If it's on still subject it's acceptable, but a big No to a moving subject.
*
How about shooting landscape in low lights? Coz flash won't really help in that case... hmm.gif

and overall would you recommend the lens? And do you think the VC is necessary?

Nikkor way better.
That blog is bulllocks tongue.gif
Same thing. Inspira better Or Lancer ? Pay peanuts, get monkeys tongue.gif
*
Haha, 3.5 times the price, the Nikkor better be better isn't it. whistling.gif
Sharpness wise, I think the difference is marginal. My only worry is the AF in poor light situation.

That is provided you nail your AF tongue.gif. Under low light it is bad.
*
Sounds like you own one? Mind to elaborate how bad is the AF and how dark is the place for it to fail in AF?

I know it is possible to test lens at BTS nikon centre. But is it possible to ask them to mount on a D7000 body to test it(as I want to test both the body and lenses)?

Then how the lens focus ? rolleyes.gif
Explain to me then.
You guys actually take stop watch to compare the speed of focusing ? doh.gif
C'mon get a life. Fast or slow, does it really matter much ? And as if you're shooting sport with that bloody 50mm tongue.gif
*
Yeah, no one would give a damn if that 50mm is selling RM9.90. Unfortunately it is not and the price is about 1500++. For that kinda price I don't see any harm in criticizing or being little harsh in demanding a good product. 1500++ is not a small amount to most of us and of course we want very buck well spend.

And they don't blame themselves for buying low end camera which cost RM 9.90 whistling.gif
Apparently, the slow focus isn't the lens problem. Is your bloody camera problem. It focus fast enough on D700 and above series. Reason ? Blame Nikon for not giving better AF module in your low end camera laugh.gif
*
Mind your language bro and please don't try to get things personal. icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm being objective and fair here. How is it a camera problem when almost the same price Sigma can provide a better deal? yeah yeah you got the D700 which got no blood while ours are all full of blood as you put it but that is besides the point. What we consumers want is to get the best deal with the lowest cost. Also, they got their opinion for not enjoying the nikon 1.4G AF speed and so be it. Don't get it why you should be so raged about it. Calm down gentleman.

If you are gonna start picking things as such there are endless debates here, plus, hey, this ain't just a nikon d700 discussion site eh. The lower end Nikon model ain't cheap and frankly ain't that bad too. Discuss objectively and learn to respect even tho you're in the internet bro. smile.gif

Hey ppl, generally I find Nikon's pro lenses are much more expensive than Canon's. Any opinion on this? As I'm preparing to invest in one of the two system, any ladies or gentlemen mind to share his view? smile.gif

ps: I do find Nikon manufactures better camera tho.

why do you said Nikon produce better camera? i donno why a lot of ppl carry canon. but for myself, im carrying nikon d7k. my fren of mine who had his d300s for 2 years, he said nikon hv much improvement towards the body when he touched the d7k. well, i juz speechless coz this is my first dslr.
*
It is only my personal opinion that for every price range, Nikon always comes out on top in terms of spec wise for the body.
Nikon's consumer grade lenses are also much better quality too.
My only dilemma of investing in Nikon's system is the price of the pro lenses where I find Canon's to be much cheaper. Therefore, I'm asking people that have invested in the system their opinion and what makes them choose Nikon.

Nope. 70-200 sleeps at home. 24-70 on D300 is tight enough already for that environment.
Besides, the temple was very very crowded, bro. When I was moving between the crowds, the D3s swings with the 17-35 mounted and hit a few people already. I have to apologize to them. sad.gif

Imagine 70-200 instead... shakehead.gif rclxub.gif
*
Shouldn't it be the other way round, that they should apologize to you? laugh.gif laugh.gif

QUOTE(Tony Stark @ Feb 5 2011, 04:41 AM)
nikon system somehow got more user friendly features than canon i think. maybe canon are ahead in its video mode, but nikon's ahead in some ways too. like some forumer here said that the 5d2's 21mp creates more noise at higer ISOs vs D700, i took a look at that, and nikon's 12mp wins. they're not in the mp race because they know wut they're doing. and nikon's flashguns are also way ahead from canon. i was told about this yesterday tongue.gif. nikon's entry level dslr oso got some features that somewhat can be useful. i tried my fren's d5000 and it can set up min shutter speed and max ISO when ur taking in AV mode. and about canon being cheaper at higher end glasses, i dont have any idea cuz i never bothered to check on nikon's. but here, the canon 70-200 f2.8 IS II is about £2000, and the nikon's VR II is just about £1600. i guess nikon's is cheaper. that's what i read in a magazine anyways. n the battle of FF 5d2 vs D700, got 2 of my frens who switched from canon to nikon and i never bothered to ask bcuz im in love with my cam. but it bothers me last night so i google it and i ask them as well. better AF system, better noise performance at higher ISOs, better burst rate, can use DX lenses for 5mp, and they said there's a built in flash which all these features is not available on canon 5d2.

well, to say which system is the best, its kinda hard. i choose canon cuz its the first dslr i own n i know how to maneuver it already. and i have no problems with it so far. pick ur pick then. but if u choose either any system, it wont disappoint u. smile.gif unless ur a pro, then u should know which one will serve u best. smile.gif
*
Thanks for your detailed comments. icon_rolleyes.gif
I'm not in some dilemma because of quality just that I'm a bit tight on my budget and want to get the best with the least of amount possible. laugh.gif
Because generally, canon pro lenses are cheaper but the 70-200 2.8 VR is one of the very few exceptions. Anyway, just wanna find out what makes ppl choose either system when they first started investing in it. smile.gif
