if ur in a tight budget, then i dont think u should worry about the cheaper/more expensive lenses for now wud ya?for most photographers/guy@gal with camera, they'll use their kit lens or wutever lens that is provided with the body first, and soon they'll know wut lens they nid the most. like when u shoot weddings for example, u use ur kitlens and u find out that it doesnt deliver the range ur looking for, so u turn into some other lenses. got wut i mean? or u like to do low lights, should go for primes or the f2.8's. just my opinion. so u wont need to worry about the prices for now. ur on a tight budget so expensive/cheaper lenses are not ur priorities for the moment. those will be in the future. who knows u hit a jackpot or wutever right? tongue.gif and the price diff aint that far, say rm500~1000?

go with the system u feel best in your hands the most, which one ur more comfortable with. investing in glass will be a whole diff thing smile.gif
*
My kind of tight is actually quite LOOSE laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif i'm tight as in i wanna get the most with the money spent not the amount of money available laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
a few 500-1000 here and there and you could have gotten an extra lens or a slave flash. tongue.gif
I just wanna make sure I invest in the most economical system yet delivers great quality so I won't have to regret someday and switch system.
I'm very conscious to how money are spent. rclxm9.gif

QUOTE(ComradeZ @ Feb 5 2011, 05:33 AM)
Well, if you don't mind me asking. What kind of photography are you into? and do you fancy video as well?
*
I do mostly landscape, street and portraits. Nah, never even once used the video function on any of my dslr. laugh.gif

QUOTE(razuryza @ Feb 5 2011, 05:40 AM)
i wont lend my stuffs to others.. but i did borrow my frens lens  laugh.gif  (not anymore la)
*
Me too. laugh.gif what if he/she returns it in different condition.....ask he/she to buy me a new one? laugh.gif thus, never lend any of my stuff to friends.

QUOTE(Tony Stark @ Feb 5 2011, 05:46 AM)
if u got that kind of thinking, its hard for u to buy a camera then tongue.gif either system wont disappoint u la bro. unless ur really going pro and u need some specific features. like canon 70200 is more expensive than the nikon's. but the nikon's 2470 costs more than the canon. like that u'll be spinning in circles lor biggrin.gif
*
Yeah, I know i'm well served with either system. Just wanna survey around as what makes people chose nikon or canon and what are their opinion and comments on the more expensive nikon pro lenses.

Don't be shy to voice out your budget here please. No one will laugh at you even if you having only RM2-3k budget ya. We are all trying to help here.

You don't tell, we can't give advice as well. doh.gif
*
the credit card limit of 40k is my limit. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
but don't think i wanna spend that much at once since I'm still an amateur and I'm more inclined to invest in DX body first and only upgrade to FX later. Lens wise I prefer FX lens.
Therefore, my budget for now is about 8-10k. Then i'll slowly upgrade depends on my needs and what poison me. rclxm9.gif
D3s D3x 1Ds far exceeded my needs. tongue.gif

Base on what I feel myself, Nikon is nice for taking solid contrast colour images, while Canon produces more soft and warm colour images.

Most people says Nikon is best for artistic photography, while Canon is better at human portrait photography.

Just my 2 cents own feel ya. Different people has different opinions on this.
*
Not a big factor to me as I can always alter the contrast and color in PP.

Nice, then get D7000 without the kitty lens tongue.gif
As for lens, 16-35 and 50mm combo will be nice enough, or get 24-70 and tokina 11-16 UWA for landscape.
Get 70-200 only when you have extra budget in future. tongue.gif

Tks for your kind suggestions. icon_rolleyes.gif

so what system ur planning to go with? smile.gif
*
You mean nikon or canon?
Nikon of course since I'm asking about nikon speedlight.
Or do you mean DX or FX?
Will invest in DX body first and probably get a DX standard zoom and the rest would invest in FX lenses(to better prepare for FX next time).

Anyone knows what are the cheapest street price for sb-600 & sb-700 around KL or Selangor? 800 & 1k are the cheapest?

600d can kill 60d anytime now even last time 550d also can perform almost as good as 50d already... even 1100d also can go up to 6400 iso now... so is 600d... they are just killing their own products... fighting among themselves..  sweat.gif
*
60D is definitely a downgrade from 50D to me. From rugged body to some cheap plastic. It's more of a marketing gimmick than anything.
For now the only APS-C dslr of canon worthy of the money is the 7D. All the 1100D,550D,600D,60D are just there to lure new people into buying their first dslr. Quality wise, you get more from nikon for similar price.

Yeah I like the solid body of 50D (my friend used to poison me with his 50D so makes me join DSLR world)
now I feel 60D is not worth of the money.
Better go for D90 at any point of time. Solid! D7000 even better.  drool.gif

guys have been posted about 'evil' cameras for quite sometimes. but I don't really get what is evil cameras??
Noted. put into consideration. smile.gif
*
Yeah, get the D90 for your sis if you have that lil bit extra fund, it's really value for money now.
For me, i've never been attracted to those flappy thingy as I hardly do or should i say never do video recording with dslr. HAHA
But if she does fancy doing some video canon is way ahead of nikon.
Depends what she prefers.
For photography, i would go for nikon anytime for APS-C. However, for FF there's much more competition and dilemma. laugh.gif

Wait 1st, read this  rolleyes.gif  > CP+ 2011 to Announce Nikon ILC Camera

IMO, all this compact interchangeable lens cameras are targeting at ladies. For guys, it's not compact enough to fit in your shorts or pants unless all your pants are cargo pants notworthy.gif

So it's kinda pointless for guys getting one of this instead of DSLR since you have to bring along a bag or hold/hang it somewhere with you anyway.

Of course, if they can make one the size of s95 then we'll start talking. icon_rolleyes.gif

a friend of mine bought a lens in japan and its warranty is not covered in malaysia. as i know it, only local warranties are acknowledged.
*
Grey set=no warranty/you're betting your luck
Local warranty=warranty only covers at the place/country you bought the product
International warranty=warranty covers at all the listed countries

Most probably your friend's lens are local warranty set. All original nikon lenses selling in malaysia are international warranty set.

do they sell the lenses there?

Added on February 12, 2011, 7:02 pm

actually its called AF fine tune for a reason...to fine tune the already somewhat accurate AF of lenses...nikkor lenses included.
some nikkor lenses on respective bodies will of cos look somewhat sharp or slightly soft but still in focus at 0, but it can be fine tuned to be sharper depending what value its set.
i doubt the AF fine tune can help a 3rd party lens thats seriously back or front focus.

this site has a good explanation.
http://www.slagermanphoto.com/blog/2009/01...us-fine-tuning/
*
I think AF fine tune would only help if your front/back focus problem is less than 5mm. Anything more you have to calibrate your lens.
