if i remembered correctly the 18-70 was the kit lens that came with the D70 ...

another kit lens is the 18-135 ...

but only the 18-70 & 16-85 comes with metal  mount ...
*
YEah.. I read from ken rock well. he also mention 1870 was a kit lens. the best kit lens ever made by nikon. drool.gif
at least that is what is written on his website.

QUOTE(edwardgsk @ Feb 4 2011, 01:53 AM)
Of course you are paying for more range and VRII. If you don't need VR with four stops improvement, doesn't use 16-17mm, plus prefer that half F-stop more 18-70 gives you at 70mm compared to 16-85 at 70mm, go for 18-70 then. wink.gif
*
decided bro! wink.gif
1855 kitty on sale? hmm.gif

Fyi, you only can achieve 8fps if you use MB-D10 battery grip with EN-EL4a battery, AA battery or power plug ya.
*
Aye dark lord! wink.gif
hey edward 5D mark II is lost in overall comparison to 2 years+ aged D700? Of course aside video feature.
Just know that I tot 5D wons. hahaha

QUOTE(KTCY @ Feb 4 2011, 05:00 PM)
The trend is so common nowadays. Usually, it will be entry level dslr with kitty lens

QUOTE(PureGeek @ Feb 4 2011, 09:44 PM)
hi sifus and others,

i have a few questions here

1) do you actually shoot raw when shooting models? or just stick to jpeg

2) whats the post processing software you use and which and where to find a free pp software (downloadable from internet) that is good other than ViewNX?

My contribution to nikon d3100 users... below is a collection of pictures taken at same settings but at different aperture numbers... all taken on tripod

http://www.flickr.com/photos/58860192@N05/...57625958957362/

i think f10 is the sharpess, let me know which f no. looks sharpess to u ya =)
Note that the two oranges were grossly blurred at f5.6 and slowly getting sharper as the f number rises...this is when the depth of focus becomes deeper and more things are in focus... all these are at the expense of slower shutter speeds... at f36, shutter speed was close to 30s! =D
*
Lol. I thought you wasn't into D3100. as you mock it previously. but geek has chosen the best as his budget allow tongue.gif

QUOTE(edwardgsk @ Feb 5 2011, 06:12 AM)
Don't be shy to voice out your budget here please. No one will laugh at you even if you having only RM2-3k budget ya. We are all trying to help here.

You don't tell, we can't give advice as well.

Added on February 5, 2011, 6:15 amBase on what I feel myself, Nikon is nice for taking solid contrast colour images, while Canon produces more soft and warm colour images.

Most people says Nikon is best for artistic photography, while Canon is better at human portrait photography.

Just my 2 cents own feel ya. Different people has different opinions on this.
*
really? I thought we can modify the color tone?
I my Portrait is less saturated nowadays. <- canon alike tongue.gif

QUOTE(Tony Stark @ Feb 5 2011, 06:54 AM)
why dont u go for the D700? u might as well go now rather than 'upgrade later' since ur budget allows u biggrin.gif during my early times on DSLRs, my uncle told me that i should go for the semi-pro body instead of investing on an entry level body. i didnt listen to him and i bought an entry level DSLR. as i move on, i feel the need of the FF. so i sold my entry level body since im not using it anymore. and all my other EF-s lenses too. as for nikon system, one can use the DX lenses on FX format DSLRs. so why dont u jump straight to FX for that matter? just a personal opinion

if not, the D7000 / D300s would suit/serve u just fine..just like edward said
*
FX lens mahal sangat lah brader doh.gif
cannot tahan.
and yeah I did choose Entry level body.
Quite disappointed. but that was my budget can't complaint tough, hahaha..

Just reach back to KL from SG.
Long and tiring trip will spam later.
1 thing I found out funny is. got 1 big daddy bring 70200 + 1D Mk something to universal studio.
he tried to do family shooting while expecting to get the background (the big rounded universal ball <- looks like globe) as well.
I bet he is suffering tongue.gif
Ohhh.. The sexy white lens with the red ring.

hi, im new here...currently im still in entry level..
im about to buy nikon camera about in a fews month more..

since the budget is 4k..
so what is your suggestion??

thx. biggrin.gif
*
how about D7k + 50m 1.8? in the mean time?
later you add the lens one by one.

QUOTE(Bliz @ Feb 5 2011, 11:33 AM)
The D version will focus faster than the G version, colour wise the G version is slightly better, bokeh wise also G wins hands down... G will be shaper wide open, while the D is soft wide open..

G version for rich fella.
D version for poor fella.
Damn it! I am a poor fella who are forced to use G. doh.gif

QUOTE(scotty @ Feb 5 2011, 12:07 PM)

Hey tony thanks for replying. I threw that question few months back.
the possibility of using Nikon lens on canon body and vice versa.
I thought the answer from forumer was impossible.
so.. does adapter actually working?
I mean. does it mean Nikon can use Canon lens and vice versa?

need to get my Siggy 50mm f/1.4 in perfect condition b4 thinking bout PC Fair ...

hmm.gif really godlike one. hahaha
bro hopefully you can get your siggy in perfect condition. tongue.gif

anyway. I have a little noob question here.
Given you have your subject and the background and knowing your gear is pretty good in term of defocusing yet giving a sharp picture.
When will you actually decide to defocusing the background by using bigger aperture? when will you actually decide to have the picture sharp all the way by using smaller aperture? as the outcome is actually depends on the potog.

I face this problem before.
IDK which one should I choose therefore I decide to make 2 version of it tongue.gif

it depends on what you want to shoot & the background condition ... if for portraits & u have a very busy background then u might want to defocus it with wide open aperture ... but if u have an interesting background then u might want to include the background as well ... not forgetting u have to check the lighting conditions too ...
*
hmm.gif interesting fact.
bro. if you do travel let's say to UK or somewhere. will you shoot most of your picture with smaller aperture let's say f16?
so you could get everything at it's sharpest?

for landscapes i usually use f/8 - f/11 ... cos thats the sharpest that my 16-85 produce & thats the only lens i will bring in my bag along with my SB600 ...
*
hmm.gif I think I have to test my 1855. to find out it's sharpest outcome.
