Added on February 10, 2011, 3:41 pmDear all 5750g users, acer come out their official announcement about the sandy bridge issue.
Acer Malaysia is Fully Committed to Support Customers on Intel’s Sandy Bridge Chipset Issues
On 31 January 2011, Intel Corporation has discovered a design issue in a recently released chipset, the Intel® 6 Series (code-name Cougar Point). In some cases, the Serial-ATA (SATA) ports within the chipsets may degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives. The chipset is utilized in the Acer Aspire range of PCs / notebooks with Intel’s latest 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ processors (code-named Sandy Bridge). The design error only affects the chipset, but not the 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ processors.
Acer would like to reassure affected customers that you can continue to use your PC / notebook without compromise. We have also confirmed with Intel that the probability of failure is very low, and estimated to be no greater than 1.5% over a year, well within industry averages for system board failure rates.
We stopped shipping the affected products on 1 February and have initiated an immediate recovery process on this matter which covers customers, channel partners, retailers and distributors.
The 2 affected products are:
Aspire 5750G-2634G64 notebook
Aspire M3920-523X7 desktop
You may also run a self test through Intel guided instructions at:
http://www.intel.com/consumer/products/pro...ors/chipset.htmWe are offering affected customers the following options:
Option 1: Motherboard replacement under the terms of standard warranty at no cost once it is made available from Intel. Acer will arrange pick up from your location that are covered by local courier service. We believe this is the most convenient option for you. By selecting this option, you do not need to re-install or re-configure any applications you might already have on the product. Backup of data is not necessary but advisable.
Option 2: Swap your product with another Acer Aspire product of equivalent amount upon comprehensive inspection that the affected product is isolated to Cougar Point’s chipset issue and none other persisting issues from now till 15 April 2011.
Option 3: Full refund upon comprehensive inspection that the affected product is isolated to Cougar Point’s chipset issue and none other persisting issues from now till 15 April 2011.
Updates and latest progress will be posted through our official website and other appropriate means on Sandy Bridge products. We thank you for your understanding and support. Once again, please accept our apology for any inconvenience caused.
