Who said anything about Steam.
We have other sources.
As much as people would love to defend their local stores. The advancement of digital distribution will eventually overshadow the stores business. Steam will not be the ones killing them off, but others are (google it). What Steam did is presenting another form of distribution, which is now being adapted by even EA and Sony. Coupled with weekly promotions and sales, they have indirectly told the users to wait and see on their stores every week.
Would you buy Arkham Asylum for RM119 while Steam have it for RM30 after a year?
The only reason i see people ever going to support stores is that freebies are given to compensate. Something that works very well with swag whores.
But don't worry, we have one of the worst internet providers here, and stubborn acceptance to new things. It will take a few years to adapt even if US is doing it today.
By other sources, I assume you're talking about those flithy CD-key resellers? Ironically, did you ever wonder how they got those keys? Yeap, from retail copies in regions where the games are priced significantly lower than anywhere else. Those companies are scum. As much as people would love to defend their local stores. The thing is, that's exactly how sales work; If you want the product now, you pay full price. Otherwise, you wait an undetermined amount of time for the product to drop in price. It's basic economics 101.
If all you ever care about is getting games at sales prices, by no means am I stopping you from enjoying it. But, don't assume that because you think it's the best value for money, then others should automatically follow suit.
PS. I paid RM 139 for Batman and I enjoyed it for almost 2 years before Steam made it RM 30. I do not regret that purchase one bit.
