Kian: I was just joking on the Cheese says part. Everyone knows I hate Cheesenium's opinions as much as any other posters.

Kidicarus didn't say that it was awesome either, just that because it's buggy, it will definitely have a negative impact on the game.

You were expecting console game prices on sale to rival that of digital distribution? Retail with physical media. PHYSICAL MEDIA.

The full games were paid for. Just not by me. tongue.gif That's like saying people who borrows my bicycle is pirating it or something. Doesn't make sense at all.

The definition of Piracy is that a NEW COPY is made physically/digitally available. Nothing about being able to play on the same copy.

I don't hate Cheese.

Console is moving to digital distribution, currently small but moving into.

Problem with console there is only one digital distributor (ie. Microsoft / Sony). Thus, each having their own monopoly.

It is not just or fair for your friend to pay for your entertainment and it is also not fair or just for the developers to get one payment for two person enjoying it.

Tell that to the big name retailers in the UK and US that pretty much do the same except that they actually make money from it through their retail buyback schemes.

Plus, are you suggesting that console games aren't resale-able? Seriously?

For the PC, we have EULAs, DRMs and all sorts of other bullshit that has pretty much been turning games into a service rather than something you own and it's been this way for awhile (It's kinda tolerable now with Steam because we can get these super cheap sales)... But don't mistake the consoles for doing the same. There's a reason why they have "VIP" codes and one time use DLCs that are bundled with their games; they are aware of the resale market and that's all they can do about it.

So, no... Going to someone's house to play their console doesn't count as piracy. Not even in the slightest. Stop insinuating that.

PS. On the issue of depriving developers, I could levy the same accusation to you; if you really wanted to support developers, you would've bought the game at full price on release instead of waiting for a sale where the profits they earn are significantly reduced.

No, the problem with digital distribution as a whole is the fact that there will simply be people that will like physical media better, as well as the fact that physical media resellers still have to make a living. Gamestop, Gamefly and many other shops will be put out of business if the online retail is any lower than the physical copies. Companies cannot risk losing the exposure that is still generated via physical media.

Apparently it's fair to retail distribution resellers when you buy games at half the price online, or buy 2nd hand games where they get zero profit too. Oh, I know. Selective fairness. How 'bout that.

Holy shit, it means that it's not fair for people to be playing Lan games or playing Street Fighter/MVC3/RE5/Halo on the same console. f***. This is bad. Companies are going out of business!

Let's remove all offline co-op capabilities for all future games. That's the way to go. <3

Oh no. I wasn't accusing anyone of anything when I said they were collecting games and not playing them, it's a matter of fact. There were also no negative connontations on my statement either.

The shit hit the fan when I get accused of pirating when I go to a friend's house to play games.

Apparently it's also wrong in the same vein when I go to my brother's house to play PS3 games that I bought for him! Both he and I are in the wrong, cause you know what? I didn't need to pay for the PS3 too! OMG SONY MUST BE LOSING A LOT OF MONEY!

Yuki Ijuin, I'd recommend taking a chill pill. Yes, kianweic was out of line, but it's not worth getting mad over.

well. I support what most Cheese says~ So come and flame me leh~ rclxm9.gif We all grumpy old man.

Online distribution will grow and keep growing. It never took off until Steam made it a trend and fact. People are gona complain about this putting stores out of business, im not sypethetic to the stores since its a business anyway. Saying that you are not happy with changes makes no sense, you might aswell say you are against advancement in business practices or any new idea. If the stores cant make a profit there is nothing anyone can do, thats how business is run, no different then a fish monger sending fish to your house compare to you going to the market. brows.gif

You do realize that if local retailers like youbeli or TSB go out of business, that means we'll never get new releases at <RM 150 anymore as we'll be subjected to Steam's standard USD 50 (Which is RM 150+ depending on the exchange rate). Furthermore, a lot of EA games are moving into that USD 60 range and gamers.com.my is still keeping those titles priced at RM 140.

I'd say that's something worth defending.

Who said anything about Steam. brows.gif We have other sources.

As much as people would love to defend their local stores. The advancement of digital distribution will eventually overshadow the stores business. Steam will not be the ones killing them off, but others are (google it). What Steam did is presenting another form of distribution, which is now being adapted by even EA and Sony. Coupled with weekly promotions and sales, they have indirectly told the users to wait and see on their stores every week.

Would you buy Arkham Asylum for RM119 while Steam have it for RM30 after a year?

The only reason i see people ever going to support stores is that freebies are given to compensate. Something that works very well with swag whores.

But don't worry, we have one of the worst internet providers here, and stubborn acceptance to new things. It will take a few years to adapt even if US is doing it today.

Stop misusing the word "flame".

Flame in the online slang context is an attack on a person, an ad hominem, or a rage induced post filled with fury of the vindictive nature.

H@h@: This forum is magical. Barely anyone can see things in the big picture.

I don't see other medias having DD overshadowing the physical media business. I must be living on a different planet than yours.
