Jonah Hex (2010) - okay, not bad, rclxms.gif

Out of Inferno 逃出生天(2013)

Director: Oxide Pang Chun & Danny Pang
Starring: Lau Ching Wan, Louis Koo, Angelica Lee

This is by far one of the big ones that came out of Hong Kong.

Well known directors (who did The Eye (2002), one of my favorite horror movie) and a few big star from Hong Kong this year.

Korea's The Tower (2012) did well, so the Pang Brothers decide they can do better. So? How did they fare?...

I just have one wish this Christmas...

That Hong Kong STOP GIVING US FALSE HOPE in 2014....

The script in this movie is just PLAIN lazy.

They really REALLY need to stop treating their viewer as idiots!!!

If they even bother to watch an episode of Mythbusters, this script would have been 100 times better.

There is NO character you are invested in.

Some fire scenes are totally CGI, and you know what that means. FAKE!! There is NO urgency or danger!!!

Bad movie. BAD MOVIE!!!

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty:

Awesome cinematography and soundtrack... Each frame is like a master stroke. Those are the merit. Acting wise so so... few characters feels like cartoon / card boardish. As for the plot it's a tad too predictable for my taste. Overall still a good watch for this festive season.

Rating: 3/5

* Can't wait for American Hustle and The Wolf of Wallstreet

The Act of Killing - Documentary
One of the most important documentaries in the last 10 years. A great documentary is not about educating or highlighting an issue or topic, it's about taking an agenda free stance behind the subject it trying to portray, from there on you as a viewer will make your own conclusion. The premise is about death squad members recounting their participation in eliminating communist threat that has similarity to our own history. The genius of this documentary is getting the larger than life death squad members re-enacting the atrocity of genocide in a "musical-like act" that is contradicting the nature of their inhumanity acts. As things getting more and more f$%ed up,a gleam of remorse start to exhibit itself on one of the character.A truly powerful and confounding character study.

This Is the End (2013)

Having watched a really terrible Rapture-Palooza (2013) a few months back, I was a little sceptic about this movie.

I had it for a while now, and only managed to watch this today and...

It is actually, okay.

Alot of reference were made to James Franco past movies (namely The Pineapple Express 2008) and it is basically about THE Apocalypse.

The cast is staggering

James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride!!! With surprising appearance by Michael Cera, Emma Watson, Rihanna, Paul Rudd & Channing Tatum (WHAT THE HECK MADE HIM DECIDE TO TAKE ON THAT ROLE laugh.gif)!!!!!!

The movie is very dialogue driven movie. And basically explore the neurotic tendencies of everyone (they basically played themselves).

Just one question, WHAT HAPPENED TO EMMA WATSON!!!!!

Give this a go why don't you.

The Sum of All Fears (2002)

With the new Jack Ryan movie around the corner, I thought it would be a good idea to revisit the previous incarnation of this franchise.

I decided to work backwards, namely

The Sum of All Fears (2002)
The Hunt for Red October (1990)
Patriot Games (1992)
Clear and Present Danger (1994)

I believe this to date is the least well received Jack Ryan movie, and have to add i actually like this!!

Poor Ben Affleck (Jack Ryan) had for some odd reason gotten some negative rap.

Anything he is attached to people seem to against, and again, I actually think he did this role admirably.

Favorite character would definitely be Anatoli Grushkov/Spinnaker (Michael Byrne)

Morgan Freeman a close second.

This was meant to be a reboot of the Jack Ryan franchises, with Ben Affleck as lead and because of the lack of box office, it did not work out that way.

Now we are going to get Chris Pine to spearhead another reboot... I'm concern,.... Not really sure if he can manage that...

If you like mystery, thriller, action give this a go, if you have not already.

Saving Mr. Banks

Well paced, good story telling, although a little melodramatic at times. Emma Thompson pulled off a great performance and literally outshined everyone else in the film. Tom Hanks did a good job too. Colin Farrel was imo a miscast, I got quite turned off every time the scene switches to his part. All in all, I'll give it a 4/5.

As the light goes out.

Another neither here nor there HK movie.Enjoy the overall idea but not so with sloppy pacing and convoluted plot-lines.Also when you are watching a movie about firefighter, you expect to see them literally fights fire lorr! Appreciate the attempt to give more drama scenes to flesh out characters but it fails to recognize that action sequence in on the other side of the same coin. The rescue sequence is so poorly choreographed as I'm having difficulty identifying who is doing what with over-edit shaky cam.The only redeeming factor is the high production value, unfortunately held back by messy multiple plot-lines that does not hold the movie well.

Johnnie To's Lifeline still the benchmark for firefighter movie IMO.

Saw an interview with the director on youtube,he has the option to follow up with perspective from the victim's side.He was contemplating whether to revisit or not.

MV Title : As the Light Goes Out (2013)

Review :
The story line keeps you on a suspense but has a few minor plot flaws. Overall CGI is realistic. The only actor with decent acting is Nicholas Tse.
All in all, a bland but fast developing story line.

Rating :
3.9/10 (Watch only if there is nthg else to watch)
