The movie is a massive disappointment. Relative to expectations and the talent involved, it is the biggest dud of the year. Shocking from Wright and Pegg.

Ender's Game (2013)
Walking in to this movie, I did not know what to expect. Frankly, I was a little nervous. This is actually an event for me, in a sense that I has invited business partners (companies, their staff and family) to this, and the movie I hope, was gonna entertain. So, after the last minute ticket ordering, and also vouchers for popcorn, I walked into the cinema, after most of my invitees had arrived with their little ones. I was a little tired, but expectant... If only for the sake that the movie is entertaining and engaging so the little ones would enjoy themselves and their parent have a little down time. The cinema darken, the trailers started. Free Bird, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and 47 Ronin graced the screen, filmakers attempts to... well, tempt us to view their ware. Then the ads! Apparently, if you drive a Mitsubishi car, you will find your perfect partner, who happens to drive the same car (albeit a different colour. Said partner also lives in your apartment block and like apples!!). Pumping Petronas oil, and all obstacles in life (the girl of your dream who cannot accept you) will be overcame!! Who would have thunk, RIGHT!! The movie starts and... It is good. Let's call an apple an apple and an orange, an orange. This movie is a drama, with some action elements. Hollywood had always exploited children, having recently pumped obscene amounts of money into movies like Inkheart (2008), The Last Airbender (2010), Super 8 (2011) and After Earth (2013). And with mixed results (ranging from amazingly poor to good) This movie has an original storyline, great cast and Asa Butterfield!! For a 16yo, he is very good at his craft! There is something in his eyes... He kinda reminds me of Elijah Wood, same big baby blue!! and Gosh does he know how to use em... Having to act against, Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley and Viola Davis must have been nerve-racking... The other kids were also good or at least were able to take directing well. It is also nice to see a world event, handled via a global effort and not by a self serving nation. I almost could not recognise Abigail Breslin!!! Pacing could have been a little better, but even with all the dialogue bits, I still cannot get into the psyche of Ender Wiggins, so speeding things up might not have helped. On another note, I've just got back into reading books. I used to consume books at a voluminous rate. And having watched Odd Thomas and just finished Michael Crichton's Micro, looks like I'm heading back that route, I might just add Ender's Series into my reading list. I was taken aback at the end, because I was not sure how the parents were gonna explain the ending to the little ones... Overall, most I had invited to watch the movie seem to like the movie. Not sure if there are going to be more movie made of the series, but the movie's ending nicely encapsulate the movie and does allow for sequels. I myself thought on the whole, the movie is solid and deserve to be watched. With that, My Two Sen. |

...and we're back to disagreeing with one another.
And I thought the acting from the kid was unimpressive. Didn't like him one bit. |

It's actually not a bad movie, but I felt nothing coming out of the theater. It's mildly interesting, but also very childish in many aspects, and key facets of the movie just aren't developed well enough to make the experience feel like something. In the end you walk out feeling like you saw an average movie.
Sometimes I prefer watching a really bad movie as opposed to a thoroughly average one. At least the really bad ones make me feel something. |

For those who loves dancing (breakdance, hip hop and etc...), its a watchable movie I prefer this movie compare to the Step Up film series of its seriousness |

Skyfall (2012)
Ever since Daniel Craig took over the Bond role, I have not been real enthusiastic about the newer Bond films. One of my friends said it best after Casino Royale. He said it was 'not Bondish'. I must admit I am a little old school. The Bond that I grew up with is suave and is a superspy straight out of the comics. I look forward to the outlandish gagdets that Bond uses in the movies. Daniel Craig's Bond did away with all that so it also did away my interest in the franchise. I never did see any of the Craig Bond movies until Skyfall. I had not intended to see it either but my younger sister saw it in the cinemas and said it was good. Now, my sister is never a fan of Bond and having her say that Skyfall was good is a big thing. It piqued my interest. Skyfall came and went in the cinemas. It was not until a couple of days ago that I dropped by my local DVD retail shop that I picked up a copy. That was also because Skyfall was one of the listed 'Buy One get One Free' promotion titles. My son wanted to buy a cartoon feature film and I picked Skyfall as the title that comes for free. I popped the DVD into the player and for the next 2 and a half hours I was entertained. Skyfall managed to get me to like Daniel Craig's version of Bond. Yes, it was not the Bond of old. Yes, they did change the franchise's theme but Skyfall made the transition easy to take for me at least. In Skyfall, we see that Bond is just human. He's prone to mistakes and not immune to the ravages of time. Spoilers will appear in the following paragraphs so stop reading if you do not want the movie spoiled. Skyfall is good. Just watch it. I rate it 4 of 5 stars. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

We're the Millers (2013)
Jennifer Aniston is 43yo, and she STILL got it!! Just look at her striptease segment!! This movie is most welcome. It is funny. They people they got for the lead roles are a riot!! Emma Roberts get the emo girl role (Casey Mathis). Will Poulter for me last seen in the third Narnia Chronicles is (Kenny Rossmore). I'm not a SNL fan so cannot say I know Jason Sudeikis well, but he did a good job here (as David Clark) and then we have the IT girl from Friends Jennifer Aniston (Rose O'Reilly)!! Kathryn Hahn as motormouth Edie Fitzgerald is amazing. I really REALLY WANT to be Kenny here, because I get to kiss Jennifer Aniston MULTIPLE times!!!!! There is a scene in here which I really REALLY WISH I can un-see (My eyes... they BURN!!!) ... (U'll know it when you see it...) In short, a pretty good comedy!! Until the next time My Two Sen |

Elysium.
District 9 was an entertaining watch but I always saw through Blomkamp for the very average director that he is, so I wasn't expecting this to be impressive save for maybe some decent action. I was wrong. This is worse. It's pretty laughably bad- bad acting, utter waste of potent story, and frankly some wretched pacing, editing, and storytelling. Wow, talk about ineptitude. |

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Nov 28 2013, 11:21 PM) Elysium. I have to agree. District 9 turned out to be quite a masterpiece..something unexpected and is one of my favorite sci-fi films of all time but Elysium was just weak. I might have to watch it again to comment further but I remember not liking it.District 9 was an entertaining watch but I always saw through Blomkamp for the very average director that he is, so I wasn't expecting this to be impressive save for maybe some decent action. QUOTE(Mov_freak @ Nov 29 2013, 01:05 AM) Easy to guess that you loved it! Some of the action was pretty fun, and the beginning showed a lot of promise, but that's as much praise as I can give it. Take the scene where one of the illegals ships make its way to Elysium near the beginning of the movie. It's told and edited in such an incompetent fashion and it feels so rushed, where the scenes are not allowed to breathe at all which just makes it a series of shots with little natural flow. The whole promise of a proper intelligent sci-fi? That peters soon into an action flick with a rubbish, vanilla plot. Ugh. |
