Cloud Atlas (2012)

Okay, am watching the last few minutes of Cloud Atlas.

I can understand now why this wasn't shown in Malaysia. Heck, I'll be very surprise if may of the America view actually got this!! (Short attention span and all)

There is NO WAY the theme of the movie with pass the censorship board!!

There a 6 (that is right SIX stories in this movie) that interleaves each other.

They all happened in different time period.

The connecting element is a music piece named Cloud Atlas.

There is so many A List actors in this and they all play multiple characters in this it is no simple task keeping score!

End Credits and my verdict, I have to give this another go to get all the pieces into place!!

In short, no expense was spare in making this movie.

There is enough story her for AT LEAST 3 movies!!

There are some scenes which is EXTREMELY violent in this movie.

There are some subject matter which is taboo.

My head hurts.... Too much input...

Yeap, me too ... wanted to skip till the end many times.
Not that the film is bad, it's the characters themselves ... since it's based on true story, can't believe they're sooo sooo sooo (can't stress how many times) stooopid.
Anyway, watched till the end and read the imdb discussion board after that, and watched the interviews & the real uncensored footage (excerpt) of the real event (this film is almost exactly what happened in a McDonald store in 2004(?)) ... it's unbelievable these no common sense kind of people exist in the world.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)

This is a weird movie.

It has ALL the makings of a Disney Classic from the 60s (Mary Poppins etc) and yet it is made by MGM.

Even weirder, it is produced and written by the people who are responsible for JAMES BOND!! biggrin.gif

Albert R. Broccoli wanted to be like Disney and own production company, theme parks etc.

Picture and Sound quality is pretty good (for it's age, not the best, but a strong, decent!)

This is a musical.

This is a guilty indulgence for me, because it brings back a lot of childhood memories..

Not everybody's cup of tea, and have to add, if you want something different for a Sunday afternoon, you cannot go wrong with THIS!!

Dialogue from movie

Donny: Now that you are born again, what do you want to do? Statue of Liberty? Entertain some ladies? Broadway tix? Seduce some women? Play Nintendo? Bone some chicks?

Hudson Hawk:  What's Nintendo?
This movie bombed at the box office, and I ABSOLUTELY love it!!

Comedy, action, clever story!! It's got it all!!

It is now release on Bluray, picture's not the best, decent not great.

Sounds decent too.

I LOVE HUDSON HAWK!!

This thread is in a slum....

Aw..., surely you guys have watched some stuff recently.

Comelah, come, come.... tongue.gif

The Apparition (2012)

There is nothing outstanding about this movie.

As a matter of fact, I could have predicted every single scare around the corner...

This movie reminds be of Pulse

Run of the mill horror movie...

Watch it, if it's on the TV and you are too lazy to change the channel.... sad.gif

The Possession (2012)

Whilst watching this movie, I kept going, where have I seen this guy before, where have I seen this guys before (lead actor, Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

Today, it DAWNED on me that he played Dean and Sam's father in Supernatural.... tongue.gif (old already)

There are some really good actors here, as stated above, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Matisyahu and the little girl, Madison Davenport was actually quite convincing!

When it started, I thought is was going to be like Hellraiser (the rubic cube thingie) because the evil object here is a wooden box, which doesn't have any opening seams...

Hannah (Madison Davenport) parents are divorced and she and her sister stays with their father during the weekends...

Their father had moved out of their house and had just recently purchased his own house.

He does not have much furniture of house hold items, so as they passed a yard sale, they stop to browse....

He bought some kitchen stuff (plates, bowls dishes etc) and his youngest daughter, Hannah was attracted by this old antique wooden box

He bought her the box, and the little girl got strangely attached to the box...

There are some scenes in this one that made me jump...

I just wish the ending...

I'm getting ahead of myself...

Check it out why don't you.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 (2013)

For all the laurels bestow on Marvel, for all the achievement they have obtained through their movies, DC has put out alot of TV stuff that is AMAZING.

It took alot of cojones (pardon my Spanish), to do this and this actually, story wise, this rivals The Dark Knight Rises!!!! I kid you not

If you had watched the first part, you know that Bruce Wayne is now an over the hill man.

Robin is a chick

Batman is retired.

Unfortunately, his rivals aren't

Interestingly, being an animation, this movie really "criticize" the American government for being... incompetent (if a non American says that, than that person is a terrorist... *sigh*)

This movie, Joker escape Arkham Asylum, Superman is the President of the United States' lackey and the Police Commissioner is also a chick!!

Lots of action, lots of surprises and the things that Batman had to do.... wow...

I cannot recommend this high enough to the comic nerd in all of us.

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962)

Masterful.

Absolutely, POSITIVELY masterful.

It is a 2:13 hour movie, and every single minute is mesmerising!!

Joan Crawford and Bette David supposedly cannot stand each other in real life and oh my goodness that animosity towards each other translated on screen. And it fits their role, to a T...

It is SUPERB!!!

Two thumbs UP.

If you like good CLASSICS and suspense, I cannot recommend this enough.

The Last Stand - 7.5/10

I like the first half of this actually. While mostly consider this as kind of a mindless action flick, I do think the first half set up the story quite well on its own. The second half though...not as grand as I expect it to be. Of course, there are some good moments once in a while but there's equal amount of lame moments and mediocre jokes. So my line is pretty high at first...then it's an up and down roller coaster ride throughout the middle till the end. And seriously, I guess the Hollywood rule is that in every action movie, there must be at least a kiss scene or else, bad thing happens?!...as they sure find a way to make one. The final fight is also not-so-great but I do like that they utilizes some proper ground fighting skills there. As a MMA fan, I can't help but like that sort of thing when they are in a movie.

One thing I like a lot is the car scenes in this one, they are freaking awesome. I usually don't give much of a crap about car scenes but this one is just above standard.

Eastern Promises by David Cronenberg.

Brilliant acting, great story that keeps you on the edge of the seat. And some scenes of rather gruesome nature. Was a bit hard to watch (fingers...). I loved it.

9/10.

Samsara (2011)

I never thought anything could surpass Baraka, visual....

It turns out all you needed was, five years of filming, editing, scoring and an unlimited budget to do THAT, and oh, also the same director!! smile.gif

Visually stunning, I'm breathless...

Like Baraka, it is a no dialogue documentary, presenting the LIFE circle, visually!!

Every single frame is STUNNING!!

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013)

I got to watched this in Sunway Pyramid Imax 3D...

First, the premise..

After all the vampire and werewolf movie, a witch movie is actually.... refreshing!

Gemma Arterton is eye candy... I mean a GREAT actor!! laugh.gif

Lots of action

Effects great

Apart from Hocus Pocus and Harry Potter, I cannot remember a witch riding a broom scene and they did it very well

So effect is good

Gory, very gory movie

And as usual, the story...

It could have been a little tighter and it would have been a GREAT movie...

Good pop corn movie

Will not go into movie history as the greatest movie ever, but a good empty your mind and enjoy, movie

Did not see "Baraka" but this... this film is NOT merely a film. Saw it a few weeks ago. I told myself - if humans went extinct, and wanted to leave behind the entire culture and doings of humanity on record, this will be it. nod.gif

Every frame in this film (saw it in 1080p) is poster-quality. Was a little surprised that there was some "explicit" content but then again, it is what humans have been doing.

Highly, highly recommended to anyone that are human. tongue.gif The way it was filmed, the awesomeness and the weirdness captured in such ridiculous detail.

Just sit back, relax and enjoy the astonishing beauty of Earth & humanity.

Kinda like the GOLD record with Bach music and an image of man and woman on the Voyager deep space craft Nasa sent out in the 70s huh.... smile.gif

You are right, this would be appropriate, for what you are suggesting

Every single frame is 48bps.... A normal movie is 25bps...

Staggering

This was filmed in 70mm (film stock) and was transferred to digital in the 8K process...

Was then downgraded to 4k for Bluray.

This would probably be the standard for the 4K and 8K TVs.....

What is stopping you from watch Baraka now?

Where Samsara celebrates "humanity" Baraka celebrate nature.

Give it a go why don't ya

I tried watching Koyanisqatsy a long time ago but couldn't finish it.

I do have Samsara lyring around, it does look staggeringly beautiful, but I haven't gotten around to actually seeing it.

I watched Flight. Good character drama with possibly the tensest sequence of 2012.

I've been wondering, why Koyaanisqatsi Life Out Of Balance (35 mm), Powaqqatsi Life In Transformation (35 mm) and Naqoyqatsi Life As War (35 mm) never got a proper HD transfer/remaster.

Visual, I never liked Naqoyqatsi. It may had been a conscious decision of Godfrey Reggio (director of all three films) to make it visually jarring and tacky, while he broached the subject of war...

Also Chronos (1985) directed by Director Ron Fricke (who director both Baraka and Samsara, he is also the Cinematographer of Koyaanisqatsi, which visually I most appreciate out of the qatsi trilogy) was never properly transferred/remastered for HD

All the above are very good "tools" to "monitor" the state of mind of the viewers...

Am checking out Flight soon. I never miss a Denzel Washington movie
