Typical average popcorn fluff. If you expect it to be shit, it's gonna turn out alright. The 3-boobs girl is pretty hot here.

Just saw Oldboy. Perfect movie for a lazy Sunday afternoon eh? I've never totally loved this film because it's got some really contrived plot devices. But I can't deny this is some seriously dark, hellish stuff. A journey to the blackest, darkest corner of the human soul. A gruesome abyss awaits you. Trust the crazy Koreans to come up with crazy revenge flicks. Btw I also saw Lady Vengeance the other day. That's a good film for the first half and a draggy mundane affair for the last half. Oldboy works because its ultra dark tone is maintained throughout and never falters, and the plot is extremely focused.

Here's mine. I don't think any one of them is truly great, but all of them at least met or exceeded my expectations, and in one way or another were notable for me.

War Horse
Haywire
The Grey
Men in Black 3
21 Jump Street
The Raid Redemption
The Pirates! Band of Misfits
Premium Rush
Moonrise Kingdom
Skyfall
*
War Horse - Felt this was a pretty good movie, good emphasis on the characters without really pulling the attenttion away from the horse.
Haywire - havent watch
The Grey - I have this but no time to watch just yet.
Men in Black 3 - not perfect or even great, but a superb ending to the trilogy
21 Jump Street - FUN
The Raid Redemption - not watched yet
The Pirates! Band of Misfits - not watched yet
Premium Rush - not watched yet
Moonrise Kingdom - not watched yet
Skyfall - not a bond fan, but found this pretty good

the reason I havent watch movies which arent 'blockbusters' is because I'm too lazy to DL them.

I watched Lawrence of Arabia a few days ago. It looks positively stunning on bluray. This is a 1962 film and it looks better than most modern films. Incredible.

Life of Pi (2012)

I am flabbergasted...

For the life of me, I'm not quite sure how to express the feelings I go through whilst watching this movie.

A few observation

Ang Lee is well know for fleshing out his character in his movies, which by the way are mainly drama.

Make NO mistake, this movie is a drama. The difference it, the attention to details!!

I can find not faults in the Cast (Brilliant, just look at the similarity between the different age Pi)

The script is exacting.

And say what you want, the CGI tiger is flesh and ones to me... There is not frame of the tiger in the movie where I go, CGI!! AVATAR was hyper real and CGI people like that. The computer can make Hyper Real quite well. BUT to make real world photo realistic animals. Especially one that is familiar to the general public, is QUITE A DIFFERENT matter all together. The CGI people in this movie has to get an Academy Award!!

In short ladies and gentlemen, this movie is.... lacking a better word PERFECT!

I saw this in Sunway Imax. Am now kicking myself for not trying out the new Digital Imax theater in TGV Wangsa Walk

10 out of 10

TDKR at No.1 ? Not for me... didn't meet expectations. TDK remains a hallmark of a film.

I am most impressed with "Life of Pi" and "Cabin In The Woods" this year. Both exceeded expectations. Almost forgot "Chronicle" - this one totally blew me away. If at all there is a fine example of what Hollywood NEEDS to do, learn from the guys who did this film.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)

Wow... how to review this.

Watched this on Sunday, in 3D...

After watching Lord Of The Ring, Return of the King, I really REALLY wanted to see The Hobbit, just to be complete.

After hearing all the drama, related to the copyright, the changes in director, and now have watched the first of the three movie, I am... underwhelm....

Don't get me wrong, it is beautifully shot! Nostalgia galore, and hence there lays the problem, there really isn't enough story to justify 3 MOVIES!!!!

He spread thing out, to the point of stupor...

Alright, he extracted information from the compendium, and also, that is the problem. It is compendium, which means additional information, NOT story....

Pacing is an issue. When action happens, it is NOTHING but, and when things slow down, they slow down to a stupor...

I'm a little concern for part 2 and 3...

One thing I would like to add though, the "music" in this movie, is actually an improvement over The Lord of the Ring trilogy, which is a good thing!!

It is my personal opinion that that TDKR is a fantastic movie, and the reason why people have issues with it is because TDK was simply... perfect!!

Good to hear there are people out there that agrees with my "what a good movie is" (don't make me name names now... You know who you are!! biggrin.gif)

And to tell you the truth, I'm not even sure if I want to put The Hobbit into my top ten list....

Johnny English Reborn - 7/10(biased, cuz I like Rowan Atkinson)

Just what you expect, a movie merely to pass your time. Rowan Atkinson is still brilliant and carried this one.

The Dictator - 5/10

I don't find it offensive personally since I am too chilled out and I ain't an American. However, I don't find it too funny(still funny on some parts) and some parts are not well-shot for me.

2012 sleeper hit End of Watch(2012) - 8.5/10

Starring jake gyllennhal and michael pena, as bromance cop on the toughest street of south L.A.Good chemistry between jake and pena and feels like you're watching episodes of C.O.P.S but this time got policemen got shot.Totally recommended for all who loves cop movies and it was directed by David Ayer(Street Kings,Training Day).

This movie is kinda like found footage video movie, but not all of it is shot like that.
8.5/10 rating for me.

The Guillotines
Another mediocre Andrew Lau movie and I'm surprised Peter Chan is behind it.The setting and idea actually pretty good but hampered with dumb down plot-line and over reacting performance. The editing is choppy and action sequence laced with unnecessary pyrotechnic effects.
Not much to look at. 4/10

The Last Tycoon
Didn't know Wong Jing still able to make serviceable movie. Production quality is lush and plot-line is something you've seen one too many time. Basically you kinda know how the movie will go after the first 1/2 hour. The saving grace is to see CYF still able to deliver the goods.Scenes with Sammo and Francis Ng is pretty well shot as well. Imagine this as a very well made Wong Jing movie but not quite a very good movie by itself.6/10

Django Unchained
QT seems to be in a more restrained mode. Good to see he didn't go to long dialogues like his previous 2 movie which can be too self indulgent and impatient to watch. Here the plot moves point to point at faster pace.To date I think this is QT most accessible movie he made. Jamie Foxx did well in it but can't help overshadow by even greater performance from Christopher Waltz and SLJ. DiCaprio bad guy also quite intriguing.8/10
