Magnificent Seven - Adequate and succinct of a remake.
Don't go in expecting a great western like Tombstone or Unforgiven. It's more along the line of action packed 3:10 Yuma. You know the story, you know the premise, you know there gonna be an epic showdown so just hop on to enjoy the ride. So get on with some cheesy, fun, charming exchanges in between the characters. There are enough action with likable badasses to root for when coming down to killing the bad dudes. Not every movie needs to strive for originality or surpass what came before. At the end is how well it was put together and M7 is one of the better made one against the last few underwhelming movies from Antoine Fuqua. Can't help but notice Hollywood is going after Jessica Chastain/Dallas Bryce Howard look-a-like, Haley Bennet suddenly appears in three reasonable high profile movies in a year (Hardcore Henry,M7,The girl on the train). |

The Magnificent Seven (2016) A great movie and nobody created a topic??? Wow... Anyway, love this movie because, 1) Although a remake, story was re-image quite well 2) Casting is PERFECT!! The casting director and director did an amazing job, in terms of casting. They selected actors who could literally communicate with each other with just... a look. A potential pitfall for the movie could have been the monologues. By casting actor with expressive eyes, this was kept to a minimum, and the story gets told anyway. Great job!!! 3) Mauro Fiore's Cinematography, stunning... Simply stunning!! 4) Credit where credit is due, the Sound Department also did an amazing job!! Suicide Squad, this is the goto movie for an essembly based movie. You can LEARN alot from this... Really!! Also, Lone Ranger, this is HOW YOU DO IT!! This may just bring the western genre back!! Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016)
Wow, the most un-Tim Burton movie, Tim Burton movie. What do I mean? Tim Burton's movie is usually very... stylized. Sets wise. This time round, it is as "really" world as any Tim Burton movie is gonna get!! It started a little slow, and have to add it gets better. Eva Green Asa Butterfield Oh warning, this movie touches on "time-loops".... My Two Sen This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Sep 29 2016, 11:40 PM |

I am in the mood for everything Vietnam war from games to films these days so I watched Boys in Company C. It's proto-Full Metal Jacket but reminds me of the fucked up command of Generation Kill. Great film about brotherhood in the Marines.

QUOTE(shootkk @ Sep 8 2016, 11:49 PM) Train to Busan (2016) Interesting point is almost the whole film revolves in the train. Overall I find the movie overrated n overhype; if it wasnt for the ending the movie is not memorable at all. Personal view: 2/5This movie is completely entertaining. It's fast paced and relentless. It shocks and the action is top notch but best of all it gives you characters you can root for and cringe at when the danger mounts. If you don't already know, this is a Korean take on the zombie genre. All on a bullet train no less! Get the tickets and board this train! Secret Life of Pets - 3.5/5
It has great animations and visual design (as expected from a modern animation movie), simple storyline (not all movies have to be about the end of the world or super villains vs super heroes), and some slapstick humor moments in it. A light movie that anyone can just walk in, enjoy and laugh. Shows the unknown side of pets and wild animals when humans are not around |

The Girl On The Train
Before I go into the movie, I read the book last year (bought it cheap at BBW). While the twist was okay, I was left slightly unsatisfied with the overall tone and characters. None of the them are likable and that's one of the major problems for me. When I read a book, I need to have at least a character that I actually like and would root for. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read or watched so I'll put them in the spoiler below. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Anyways, rant aside, the movie follows the book closely (if I remember correctly), so the twist and actual murderer is the same, nothing surprising. I've heard some reviews saying the editing is choppy, I don't have much trouble following (perhaps because I've read the book) but in a way, that's the whole point of the movie, to put you in Rachel's shoes and feel what she feels. Actually the book itself feels a bit disjointed too, it's probably meant to confuse readers idk. Rachel reminds me of Emily Blunt's character in Sicario (in terms of confusion) but I personally think her performance here is way better in the sense that she explores something deeper and more harrowing than Sicario. Emily's performance sort of saves the movie for me. I didn't really enjoy the book so this movie is average to me too. I'm just curious how it would transpire in the movie. I still think Room (Brie Larson) is one of the best novel to movie transformations ever made. Rating: 6.5/10 I sincerely think Emily Blunt's performance is Oscar worthy here. Other than that, an average whodunit movie. I don't really like to compare every single thriller to Gone Girl (which seems to be the case ever since) but if anyone asks, GG is still better. Overrated novel, I don't know why so many people are so into it when there are tons of crime/thrillers out there worthy of being made into movies. Seoul Station
Coming right after the great reviews all around Train to Busan, you'd think this (animated) movie would be on the same ball park, especially when it had the same director, right? WRONG! For starters, the animation, probably rotoscoped, looks terrible. While they did a fine job on getting the characters to look right, the "flow" of each animation frame is just to janky to enjoy it as a whole. It manage to flow worse than the common anime, which is animated on 3rds (24frames per sec, 8 drawn animation frames). Also, gratuitous panty shots all around. Realism? FanService? No idea. Next, the voice acting for most of the characters are terrible, especially the main female characters whose exaggerated moaning and crying throughout the entire movie would make a A/V star blush. Yeah. The only good voice actors are the one who did the zombies, which does have freaky sounds with their chattering teeth. The plot, being a simple zombie outbreak movie set as a prequel to Train to Busan, revolves around one girl living a difficult life in the big city as the zombie outbreak happens (nothing regarding the cause of the outbreak was shown; so it just starts), and her daddy who search through hell to find her lost child. Can't ruin a plot that simple, right? WRONG AGAIN! Through the entire length of the story, you get to see the characters being actively braindead (if that's even possible) by doing things that makes no f**king sense (eg: not closing the door of a car as you were chased by a zombie before trying to start the car. WUT?). And there are tons of such absent-mindedness until the end. And the ending, oh wow. I get that sometimes a plot twist at the end of the movie would enhance the plot (ie: Sixth Sense, The Others), but here the twist is so stupid, it practically ruins the movie because it affects the motivation of one certain character to actually go through this sh*t. Hey Mr Director, sometimes a good simple ending works too! SPOILER ALERT » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I know most would probably check this movie out, especially after watching T2B. But that's probably what they expects you to do. I haven't watch T2B yet(was planning to watch it in theatres a day after), and this movie manage to leave a bad taste in my mouth that I'm reconsidering to just watch it via *JackSparrow* means. Not a justification for piracy, but just getting a virtual refund for this garbage. URGH. 1/10. And that's for the poor animators who probably had to OT for this. |

I enjoyed Seoul Station.
The animation is acceptable. If you want to see bad animator go see Dragon Ball Super. The animation is horrid. The Girl on the Train.... worth the TV screen only. This post has been edited by whatever06: Oct 10 2016, 10:49 AM |
